PHYLOS grumblings

It was dissolved 2019. They were involved with the Phylos kerfuffle.

Don’t know if the their sequencing databases were fully published but I have seen other sources of published sequence data. OCP provides a site where they keep the data but accessing it is not clear. Details here:

Here are the details regarding the closure of the project:

From what I recall, there is another east coast based company that had been contributing datasets to public. They are around but hit and miss.

I think we’re giving phylos a bit too much credit. They were cheapskates that made a worthless database under the guise of science. You guys really think anything that same company can produce is going to be worth while?

That’s of course a possibility

Or, they were doing corporate science under the guise of offering a worthless database.

The effort they went through to revamp their entire galaxy a couple times to manufacture genetic narratives shows what they were really doing.
The first Galaxy was somewhat accurate. Then it got revamped and all of a sudden connections that were there, weren’t, and connections that weren’t there, were. Such as some novel landraces first being reported as novel and unique, then after the update the Galaxy says they are related to Skunk or Haze.

The fact you could send in a cut and her offspring and them show up as completely unrelated plants, showed what they were really doing.

The Phylos investor calls, where they were laying out their actual long-term plans, provided concerning details that did not match their public messaging. The videos were on-line some time ago. Don’t know if those are still around.

Yup, saw those.
That investors meeting laid it all out. Working with Sam/Clarke/et al, working on breeding and various patents, licensing IP/clones, to be one of the Monsanto’s of cannabis.
I haven’t seen that video around in at least a year, though.
Once their former employee went online and shared what he knows, Phylos did a bit of a cleanup and rebranding.

On the other hand, Breeder’s Best is protecting breeders and offers contracts at a reasonable price. Their CEO says he can impede Phylos’ patent efforts… we’ll see.

That Massachusetts company doing sequencing is named Medicinal Genomics

I wonder if a license to breed specifically for seeds and genetic preservation would be a viable, safe, and legal option for preservation growing? I am not into the cannabis selling flower but preservation so… why not. Make it federal like a brewer’s license? @shag

@Cactus
Sounds good to me, you may need to navigate plant counts or get some special permit, does something like a breeders license currently exist?

That sounds like a horrible idea. Why would we need government license to make seeds? That’s just going to give more incentive to bigAG that can afford them. Trying to say as a way to get around the flower/canopy/plant rules?

I want the plant to be “regulated” like Grass, or Tomato’s or something. i.e. we can have as many as we want and do with them as we please.

I see it being used for home brewers and brew pubs. Jimmy with a swipe of his pen did away with all this hoky state by state politics bullshit. Not looking to make a buck just wanta chuck!

I get it, but what are the chances that license would even be affordable? The average license to grow for a business is around $1000 depending on the state. Some are $100, sure, like Maine, but Michigan wants $6,000, Illinois wants $100,000 :eyes:

Thanks for the info…
That would seem the way to go.

That sounds perfect.

Even more perfect…LOL

Whatcha think @Cactus ??
I wonder if a nursery license is available where you are??

That’s something I need to look into for I am not sure if Arizona offers this; might have to move to California  @shag @ChongoBongo

I am looking and think it is just for hemp with THC <0.003

The problem is finding a county in California that has permits available still , is affordable and allows for cannabis businesses :unamused: I would love a legal seed and clone company but it’s seems next to impossible with out deep pockets
