Pixel_Planter's Winter 2025 Grow

Hi there. I’m pixel_planter.

I am kicking off my Fall / Winter / Spring photoperiod grow. I typically don’t grow in the summer time just because of heat and indoor growing, but this year I did keep one tent growing and grow some auto crosses that I made last winter.

So I have started a number of plants, and I have a few more coming in the mail this week I’ll be starting.

I am a very basic grower and I subscribe to the KISS methodology. Keep It Simple (Stupid).

I grow in Coco Coir, and I use Masterblend Nutrients. Masterblend is a very basic nutrient, 25lbs is $60. This is my second year growing from the same order and I’m not even half through it yet.

Left - Royal Queen Seeds - Critical. Nothing fancy here, just a bog standard Critical. It has a little “wet feet” tag so I stop watering it for a few days because I feel its a little over watered.

Middle - Brothers Grimm - Genius Juice x Cinderella 99. This was on sale for $10 for 10 seeds and I said hey, can’t beat that! Lets give it a whirl!

Right - Brothers Grimm - Rosetta 78. This one was $15 for 10 seeds on sale. Again, I said dang, can’t pass this one up! If one of these turn out awesome, I can pop a few more seeds and make some of my own seeds for my personal seedbank.

What I haven’t received yet -

Later this week I’ll be getting both of the Brother’s Grimm Trailer Park Boys strains, Bubble’s Blueberry and Rickey’s Hash Plant. Bubble’s Blueberry is just DJ Short Blueberry F3.

Also waiting on seeds from https://www.eighthbrother.com/promos I have absolutely no idea what seeds I’ll get, and others have said they are unsexed, so I set aside some solo cups to grow in.

Finally, I also started two Frosted Cherry’Os F3 (3-Pack) - Speedrun Seeds
One to grow and one to reverse with STS so I can make some seeds for my personal seed bank.

And what the rest of the tent looks like. I have some autos that will be finishing up in a few weeks.

I also got a little something in the mail today. Agsil 16, which is potassium silicate. Same exact thing you’d pay $50 for a half gallon of Rhino Skin or whatever. I’ve noticed since switching to full on coco and not adding any dirt to my grows that stems have been a little weaker. I waited and made sure it wasn’t just that variety I was growing, but when the RQS Critical snapped a leaf stem really easy, I knew it was time to start adding a little silica to my feed.

This was $30 for a pound. Silica Soluble Powder Agsil 16 Pure Potassium Silicate Silicon 1 Pound | eBay and should last me quite a while. I plan to start with adding around 2.5ml per gallon of nutrient water and we’ll go from there. Also have to be careful to adjust how much acid I add, because potassium silicate is very basic, so you have to counter it.

Edit - I followed directions I found for the agsil 16, I mixed 148 grams to 1 liter of water. I then added 3ml to my feed water. I was careful to check PH and I found it did not impact my ph as much as previous silica products I had tried in the past. 3ml of the silica liquid + 1 ml of General Hydroponics PH Down brought me to right where I needed to be, which is a pee yellow color with the ph testing fluid. I don’t trust ph pens, I’ve had them drift too much and I don’t need to check ph that often once I get things dialed in. I do check it once a month or so just to make sure my tap water hasn’t changed.

My tap water comes from aquifers near a major river, and the water is filtered through limestone as it comes from the river to refill the aquifer, this increases the ph. It comes out of the tap around 8. I typically add about 1/2 to 2/3rd of a ml of ph down to get me to 6, now I need to add a full 1 ml to get there if I use the silica.

My seeds from Brothers Grimm showed up a day early! And they included a bonus, 10 seeds of Durban Thai Jack Herer x Rosetta Stone.

I can’t find that exact cross on their website, so it must be a tester or or something. Its not marked if its femininized or not, but similar crosses I see on their site are, so I’m going to make an assumption that it is.

Looks like I have 3 new seeds to pop!

I’m starting the seeds in some coco now to germinate, and I’m going on a trip for a few days, so hopefully when I get back they’ve germinated.

Edit - The TPB seed packs are cool…but…they have no way to be reclosed so you don’t mix up the little seed containers. Look cool, but not a great design for reuse.

All 3 of the new Bros Grimm seeds have germinated.

I like to start my seeds in little cups and then transplant once they sprout.

My RQS Critical is doing well. I trimmed a few big leaves so the nodes that are growing would get more light.

I top my photos a few times to create a bunch of main stems before I let them start growing upwards. This has been topped 3x and will get it once more, maybe twice more, depending. I usually leave 2 main nodes on the stem, but One of the branches on the 2nd node broke off (hence I started adding silica) so I chopped it down to a single node.

The 2 older Bros Grimm Seedlings got their first snip today.

And both of the Speed Run Seeds Frosted Cherry O’s are seedlings now.

The one in the one gallon pot will go into a 2x2 tent and get hit with STS spray so I can collect pollen. I plan to make some F4 seeds (these are F3 seeds from Speedrun) for my personal collection, and potentially save some fem pollen long term for other auto crosses. Crossing with the Auto Runtz has been very successful and netted me some very nice plants. The Witness Protection x Runtz auto cross especially is looking absolutely amazing - the colas are very dense and very resiny with a very intense berry smell.

I only grew one of the Auto Runtz out to full flower and it made the most amazing purple resiny flowers, but frankly they had too much resin because it was difficult to keep a joint lit with it and it would gum up your grinder. Thats what made me say wow, this is awesome and I’d love to pass some of these genes on to other plants that could benefit.

All 3 of the new bros Grimm seeds have opened and have cotyledons showing! I am yet again very impressed with the brothers Grimm product, the last set I started was like this too. Very aggressive. I didn’t soak in water or anything before I put them in some coco, added water, and 3 days later, boom, I have baby plants.

In a day or two I will move them to their new homes in 5 gallon grow bags.

Things are going well. Started LST on the older Bros Grimm Plants as well.

My other Bros Grimm plants are doing well, but aren’t very big yet.

And I started 2 more seeds. Its an fem autoflower that a guy on reddit sent me about a year ago. He named it “Sueno De Oro” which is spanish for “Dream of Gold”. Its a cross of 2 Night Owl strains, “Space Station Gold” and “Sugar Qookies”. I only have a few seeds so I started 2 of them so I can reverse one to make some F1s because based on the 2 parents, its going to be really good.

IF you happen to recognize that strain name and know who that guy is that made that, please let me know how to contact him. I got banned from Reddit, and I would love to do another seed exchange with him, he had some great stuff. He had also sent me a Blue Microverse x Sugar Qookies which is an amazing smelling plant.

And the Genius x Cinderella and Rosetta plants are continuing well.

Welcome to the torture dome!

Thats the last topping its going to get, I’ll let it grow up from here.

Had an issue with one of the autos damping off. I am supporting the plant, I uncovered the area so it can completely dry, and I soaked it with some fungicidal bacteria to hopefully stop the problem. I hope that it dries and heals.

I got the same agsil got my hydro setup. Got it from kis organics, cheapest i could find. They do soil amendments to.

I bought an apera brand pH off eBay. Retails for like 80, paid $30. It’s super accurate. Lab grade accurate. Hits the 7.0 and 4.0 pH calibration liquid spot on every time. No name pH pens are way inaccurate.

Also you might buy some 85% phosphoric acid instead of using general hydro pH down. I paid $25 for 16oz of 85% strength and it makes a shit ton of pH down. Or just buy straight 25% if you don’t have proper ppe. I water it down to 25% with distilled so it’s safe to handle. Then I water it down even more to 2.5% and then it’s pretty close to general hydro pH down concentration. So affordable. I use a bunch with my hydro setup Phosphoric Acid (H₃PO₄) - Multiple Concentrations - DIYChemicals

You’re so harsh on your autos lol

Great looking plants :raised_hands::raised_hands:

I have used sulfuric acid in the past. Battery acid. But the auto parts store near me was out the last time I needed some and after doing the math it was cheaper to get the GH gallon than order battery acid online.

I have a decent pen. I guess I just don’t like it. I really don’t need to check PH that often though, I kind of have it all down at this point to where I know what ratios I need, and then every few weeks I check my ph just in case.

Each of the big guys are drinking about half a gallon a day right now.

And I dropped the light down on the smaller ones. I always do really bad with this stage of growing, I think I’m over watering a bit. So I’m going to cut back, yesterday I watered until it was coming out the bottom of the bags. Not watering for a few days at least.

Small tent is coming along. I pulled my STS spray out of the fridge to spray the one gallon potted plant, and it was frozen solid! I guess it was in a cold spot in the back. So, gotta let it thaw for a day.

I also grow my cat some cat grass, he likes to nibble on it. So I pull it out for a few days at a time for him, and then put it back under the grow light to green back up when it looks like it needs it.

The big plant tent has changed a bit. I brought my key lime tree inside for the winter, it needs some love. I’m also growing some pothos cuttings for a couple house planters.

The bigger plants got the lowest level of leaves trimmed off because they were resting in the dirt and I really do not like that as its a way for pathogens to get into the plant.

And I started some low stress training on the Frosted Cherry O’s auto.
