Pollen isolation outside

Aloha all,
I am wondering if anybody has seen or made some kind of pollen isolation tent for outside breeding? the point would be to keep multiple males outside of different strains without ruining the neighborhood. thanks for any ideas

Perhaps a makeshift green house? Is it planted in ground or on a pot?

pots. yeah thats not a bad idea

I use a cheap greenhouse and keep my boys small. As long as girls aren’t close nothing gets pollinated outside of it.

You could try keeping your males in movable pots at a manageable size and then when its close to pollination time, a few days from pollen drop, move them indoors to a dark closet/basement/room and collect the pollen to manually apply.

Greenhouse would be great, but sometimes you can bag individual branches to isolate pollination sites.

how long can i leave a bag on him before its too long? a day, a week, a couple hours? thanks

Ideally, long enough for the pollen to take, but not long enough that you cause humidity to condensate on the inside of the bag causing rot. You may see the pistils wilt and recede a few days after pollen application. You can wash pollen off fairly easily with water.

I second this, keep them in a smaller container and when ready take them somewhere else or place the bag over them to collect in a shaded place like a shed or garage

Personally I’d try to avoid the bag method in direct sunlight but that’s just me. I’d hate to trap moisture in a bag with plants on a hot humid day

so what do you think of putting boys in big rubbermade with a few holes. then putting lid on and putting them in a cool dark place? do they need sun to make pollen?

alternatively mini greenhouse made of many layers of agabon on the sides and a litte lid, put in shady spot? like the size of 20 gal pot. even using 20 gal pot for base with agabon lid? for air but no wind?

my boys are in 1 gal

thanks for the help!

Go to Dagga.Garden They have Pollen bags with a viewable window if you want to pollenate isolated branches this one will do a whole plant .I cut male branches and put them in solo cups of water in my garage on 12/12 over a mirror and i let the male branch dump pollen over it and i dry it out by keeping it as thinly spread on the glass for a couple days them i gather it and put it in Parchment paper sachets and dry them in a tupperware container filled with dessicant beads like they use to make dry flowers.i use some fresh and freeze the rest and use through out the year.Your neighborhood will thank you for not seeding thier plants

Pollen sacs only open when lights on. The moisture during dark would make it useless.

I have an isolated tent inside my garage that inkeep the males in and what ever im pollinating in.I dont have a fan blowing in there i cool the air around it and it keeps a reasonable temp ill shake my plant over the others in the tent and wash my clothes i put in a bag before i bounce and shower.I haven’t had any accidents yet as to hitting my neighbors i usually do males really early before anyones shit even pops hairs around here anyway if i had a slip it would pretty much be in vain

im trying to clone males for this reason if they root i have tiny pollen machines i can control in a small tent inside or by south window if no other strains
