No need for concrete or tiles or tarp, just cover the soil with woodchips, best insulation you can get, will absorb excess moisture and will keep the soil cool during extreme heat and warm during frost.
Inoculate with edible mycorrhizal fungi (garden giants or elm oyser mushrooms for example, some psilocybin mushies are mycorrhizal too) to help your plants grow and get mushrooms as well.
