Pot size question

The farmer’s market near me doesn’t measure pots by the gallon- they measure it by the inch. How many inches is equivalent to 3 gallons? I feel like many growers like myself forget to ask this question and try to eyeball it.

Be careful if you buy containers based on the advertised volume. The round Nursery containers are not the actual volume they’re labeled as. If you buy a nursery container that says 1gal, it really only holds about 3/4 gal, 2gal actually hold 1.5gal.

I looked online and cannot find a useful chart, they all only have one of the measurements in inches and I have one gallon thru 15 gallon and both measurements are diff on most the 5 and 7 have the same diameter. there all different with height so i dont get why the only give one measurement of the needed two , also i have 5 gals by two different vendors and they both have different measurements .

See this is what I’m talking about lol im glad I’m not the only person that has this sizing issue. You would think they would make pot sizes by the gallon but I guess sediment/ dirt weight is maybe more than liquid weight? Interesting
