Hey! First-time grower here, been trying to plan everything before I start. 90x90x180 (3x3x6) tent, 4" inline fan, 300W light, 2 fans. Will have a dehumidifier too.
I want to do living soil + dry amendments and I’ll be mixing my own stuff. I’m aware that for living soil the bigger the better, initially I was going with an 80x80 bed but it’s too much to take into account and pots will be easier to manage than a big bed. So I was thinking 4x55L (~14.5gal) Gronest fabric pots. They are 40x40 (16x16inch) so I’m able to fit 4 but there won’t be much space left on the sides.
My first question is, how doable is this? It’s gonna be crowded yes, but is it doable with the proper training, scrogging, environment control, etc?
And my second question, what pot size should I do in between the cups and final pots? I was thinking cup-3gal-14.5gal but now I’m thinking cup to 3gal is maybe too big of a jump. Cup-1gal-14.5gal better?
I appreciate the help! ![]()
Personally, the largest I’d go is 7 Gal. and only if it’s a long flower sativa and not a light eater. Generally 5 Gal. is large enough for typical genetics and soil.
Have a look at ‘teas’ as well, they go well with soil grows. My ‘go to’ is alfalfa/kelp, sometimes with some molasses to keep the microbes healthy.
Cheers

I run crowded as almost a rule and it’s fine as long as you’re not squeamish cutting off limbs that are in the way.
IMO a single 1 gallon plant should cover a 3 x 3 perfectly. Depending on the plant of course. Here is a couple grown by a protégé’. With only a 2 wk veg. 2 wks after flip, one has almost gotten away from him.
I usually run 3-5 gallon pots. I find bigger than 5 i tend to have a lot of unused rootzone. (I dont usually veg more than a month). Smaller than 3 i usually have to be really on top of watering. Have run some successful half gallons recently though and about to try again haha
I have put 9 in a 2x2 bed in a 2x2 tent before.
But I’m more interested in geno hunting and pollen chucking.
Currently on my 4th run of no till living soil.
Here’s the 2x2 bed in a 3x3 tent for reference. 4 girls in the tent transplanted very young because I sex tested them through a lab.
This was water only and I did no amendments with this first run of build a soil.
Would not recommend headstrong. Easy grow but hermed in multiple environments and grow styles. The male collected and pollinated on Purole Lemon Thai is showing herms in both female and male offspring. Which is a shame because the buds were beautiful, taste was amazing, and high was uplifting and social.
