Saw this today, thought I would share.
My favorite youtube reviewer tested 4 phone apps that supposedly measure PPFD.
Some great news for you Apple owners, they work. (Not soo much on android)
See the youtube link below for the test/review.

I’ve been using the Luxmeter app on my iPhone for a while. Will have to check the link to see what’s recommended.
I’m on android too.
Might make the switch in a few years when I upgrade if there aren’t any good ones lol.
Beats paying 500+ for a ppdf meter.
@MBVapester Migro is doing reviews on Lux meters found on amazon shortly, again testing against highend equipment, mentioned at the end of his video that one on amazon for around 40 worked pretty good.
I got mine based on a YouTube video review that showed it was pretty good. I don’t use it a lot and it gives me the info I look for.
Which app is that? Might give it a go!
Here’s a screenshot of the icon
Would love something to see spectrum for its tuning along with amount of light. Dont know enough to know if technology will bring prices down/new players but suppose if you use it 10 years its ok in the end to buy, cry in the shower
Luxmeter works fine on android and is on the playstore, you couldn’t pay me to have an iphone
Is there any that work descent on Android? Hell I would be happy if it was close to accurate and I could get a “in the ballpark of”. I really don’t want to buy a meter
That’s what I was wondering, you answered why I was asking. Thanks
As a android and linux developer I don’t agree with the video, if you have a shit phone, of course it won’t work as designed, but with any modern phone it should work with no problems no matter what OS your using.
Not sure if it’s the phone or the app.
The apple app is the only one that added a light diffuser on top of the camera. Maybe that had something to do with the results.
Unfortunately the only way to know if it is accurate is to test it against a actual ppfd meter and they are very expensive. Unless you have one at your disposal your kind of forced to use reviews from others.
Would be really interested to see results on different phones if anyone has a PPFD meter to test against.
I’vve been using the app for about 4 years, it has a 4.7 out of 5 on android, lets not talk about py, py-grow were apple can’t compete.
It’s not the app, it’s the phone, sensors, camera, my 40 year old son’s iphone (newest) camera looks like shit to my google pixel series.
Any modern phone should work no problems and I know of no android users having problems with the app.
Is this the lux meter? Or the ppdf apps?
App - Android - Lux Light Meter
Same here!
