Preservation seed run with afghan genetics

Thought I’d share my experience with this method.

On Friday I started 14 seeds: 7 Blue Dream and 7 Blue Cookies. I started each strain as directed and added the lactobacillus. In less than eight hours, three of them sprouted tails. In 24 hours six of the seeds had popped. Those six seeds were planted the next day.

On Sunday I switched the seeds to the shot glasses containing the hydrogen peroxide water. Two more seeds popped giving us eight seedlings. Monday, another popped. This morning I switched them back to the lactobacillus water. All five of the remaining seeds are starting to pop now a few hours later.

I’m very happy with this germination process. Looks like I will get 100%. I’m even more happy with the strong and rapid growth of the seedlings. They’re all very strong-stemmed and robust. They’re starting to spread the second set of real leaves and just look amazing.

At this point I plan to continue using this process for the foreseeable future. I will continue to track the performance and report back.

Peace and hair grease. :v:t4:

  • Would you incorporate a roughing or scoring step? Presumably on the dry seeds.
  • Heat mat?
  • Why tap water (re chlorine) - Distilled OK?

Less than 8 hours? Wow, that’s insane. I’m gonna try this out for sure. Thanks for the report.

I have never tried scoring. I would recommend starting a few seeds with the scoring, and a few without as a control group.

In my experience, the heat mat is optional. I always go as minimalist as possible, so I just try to find a clean dark cabinet that will not have any unexpected drops in temperature, or too much light exposure from people opening and closing it.

Tap water is best, it has much higher mineral content than distilled water which is beneficial, and the water treatment chemicals will also help to fight any contamination on the seeds.

That’s awesome Kingmambo, really glad to hear this method is working well for you too!
As soon as I hit on this method, it was very easy and removed so many variables that I had been struggling with in the germination process.

Interesting, what’s the lactobacillus doing for you?

I’m not qualified to answer exactly what the lactobacillus is doing but the directions for this method mentioned something about inoculation.

I have an admittedly small sample size at fourteen but I’m going to continue this way to see if the germ rate stays very high.

Maybe someone way smarter than me (large sample size) can help us understand what it is or isn’t doing for us.

The other point of interest is the seedlings seem notably stronger and grow quickly. The seeds which popped in <12 hours went from planted in soil to first real leaves spread in 24 hours. They seem to be growing very quickly.

I guess we’ll see how this goes. Hope to hear from others using it as well. :v:t4:

Danzakuduro is the resident lactobacillus expert, I’d recommend you check their grow thread out for all the scientific details.
In short, the lactobacillus will consume competing bacteria and even some pathogens.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Chlorine is OK as it kills any patogens on the seed surface, I also use a few drops of peroxide … Arriba|nullxnull

To be honest I had no idea anyone else had these. They were not easy to get. But no my friend they do not come from bodhi.

Have you grown some out? Interesting genepool. I had only heard of yunnanese weed. The other province is a new one for me.( macau)

i dont see in preservation strains for guerilla growers.
Freezeland - cannadian strain seems good.

I’d love to find some “canadian 50 day indica” but not sure this old school line still exists. This was grown briefly in the emerald triangle in california, and used in some very good hybrids at that time. It was a great way for people to shorten the flowering period of true sativas. I don’t know whether this canadian 50 day indica or any of its hybrids still exist.

I used to grow Surf’s Up (thai x canadian 50 day indica) and that line was absolutely crazy.

The original Alaskan thunder fuck finishes super fast like you describe and was passed around quite a bit back in the day. I’m going to be hunting threw some pure indicas in the near future looking for a fast finisher for breeding stock. I’ll be starting with the Pakistani chitral kush and will then be exploring some other lesser known landraces.
I have the ATF also but will only be releasing it in crosses per agreement and respect for the source.

I was looking at the specs of PCK 2 days ago (at the Ace seeds site) thinking the same thing!
There’s some interesting phenos documented in the PCK breeders pack…

I have there’s and cannabiogens and will be growing them out together to compare. It has potential to be a great breeding plant to have in the program.

That would be interesting to compare!
You are thinking of a cross with ATF? I was thinking Freezland.

That would be a nice preservation.

@goodgear great looking Afghan in the Raw. I have a few of those seeds too as F2. I Look forward to running them even more after seeing your picture! I’m guessing they are from the original release by Ohsogreen?
