Purple City Genetics (PCG) appreciation thread

i quite enjoyed her. she has almost no stretch which i kinda crazy. if youre vertically limited she is a decent option. i got lots of bubblegum notes from the terps but i agree with @Alaskagrown that MC isnt the best of the bunch. she really only on their menu because of her crazy limited stretch / short flower times. Gushminds and mango mintality blow her outta the water in terms of terps and yield. MM is a great plant with nice compact buds. GM has bakery terps whereas MM reminded me more of that old school fruit strip gum. Personally i preferred GM

Agreed 110%!

She is ultra slow to veg because of the THC Bomb, and very little stretch…

Mango with our fertilizer program (Jacks + Bennie’s) we’re getting straight up Mango Hi-Chew Terps/Taste…simply amazing!! She is by far my top 1 or 2 in the whole garden.

Flipped a couple of PCG strains grown from seed today (bought at purplecitygenetics.eu)

Orange 76 ((Motorbreath#15*Orange Cookie Dough)Moroccan Peaches) and
Space Station (SuperSonic
Governmint Oasis)

Will be back with pics when it starts to get interesting.

They’re up against hard competition from Karma Genetics, Trichome Jungle and Perfect Tree Seeds this round:)

oh interesting, I quiet enjoyed supersonic, definitely in the candy terp space. Governmint Oasis was a fantastic yielder but wasnt a huge fan of her intense garlicly spicy terps. Those terp profiles are so radically different im curious about how the terps would turn out. Best of luck, please do report back!

She drops 2z/sq foot every single time, even if I screw up. Love that Gush Mints!

What about papaya bomb or morrocan peaches? Any one grown out those?

I’m thinking of not getting molotov now and switching with something else after reading the comments on it. I gave a feeling it might be like my red runtz, it stays pretty short and has really nice strawberryish terps in flower.

PCG turned us away from Moroccan Peaches and was manly a strain for concentrates but they call it a dual purpose strain…it’s part of the El Krem Collection. Government Oasis is the next on our list…(GMO x Gushmints).

@Justblazin dont let us speak too ill of molotov cocktail. its a “workhorse” strain, or a strain for a specific setting. If youre trying to push a consistent harvest in a short time and are dealing with vertical height limitations, MC is for sure 100% the way to go. It takes forever to veg but the buds are immaculate and doesnt require much trimming. im imagining the she would do really well on flood tables in a commercial setting where high throughput and consistency are the name of the name. she has fantastic nose as well, like sweet berries or something. every cut has a downside or at least an aspect in which she isnt optimal. MC unfortunately suffered from cardboard terps syndrome.

her lack of stretch is really interesting to me. im going to keep her around purely because of that. i bet she would be fantastic breeding stock, id be curious in crossing her to some of the more unwieldy lanky plants to see if i could get stretch under control. if the cost of the cut is less than $100, id pick her up in a heart beat

@Alaskagrown its so weird how much the flavor changes as concentrate vs smokable flower. its night and day difference. those el krim cuts are like the razors edge, i bet its hard to pheno hunt for cuts that look great as flower, and are still washable with decent yield. Government Oasis , youll like her.

Fruit Gushers going hard at 4.weeks 3 days. Only got 4 out of 6 of the pack in to flower.
Her flowers are looking pretty leafy tbh, but also like they are going to be large to XL. Terps are very light so far.

They are in a 5 gallon tote being used as a hempy bucket, with about 4 gallons of coco. Now, depending on who is counting, maybe that is only 1 plant, not 4… Yellow wire is to a Growlink sensor, just using the sensor not using the controller part.

These girls responded so well to the mondo hempy bucket that the Granid Guava got jealous, and had to get one of her own. They went in to flower a few days ago, hanging out back left.

Due to weird constraints at the home grow currently, the only workable veg space at the moment is a short area in a closet, far too short for proper veg. Had to give them the ol’ transplant-move-to-flower-same-day deal. Seems to push back onset of flower a few days, like maybe 5-ish. The growth when doing this is kind of nuts though; many go in at 12 inches and come out 4 feet when doing this. There is definitely more stretch, but also more nodes. Overall, I don’t recommend it as a primary technique, but one to use only when you have to.

man those are the largest hempys ive ever seen! my summer peppers do really well in hempys outside, though ive never used that watering technique for buds. do you get nutrient lockout issues? my peppers sometimes get blossom end rot if i dont give em extra calmag. our tap water is hard as hell too, ive always though that was a function of the hempy bucket more than the nutrient line. dont have that problem for the peppers in large raised beds, only the ones in potted hempys.

It’s funny, I use small buckets, not much over a gallon max, and water many times per day. Using this massive one actually works out to less than a gallon each, since it has about 4 gallons of media. Girls loved it, so did 2 more, one with Grandi Guava the other with Mike Tai Kush.
Never seen any rot issues above ground. When I started doing hempy, I was innoculating with hydro guard and did see root rot more than once. Started sterilizing instead when switched to Athena, with hypochlorous acid to keep roots clean. Not a single root problem since, probably 100+ plants grown in hempys so far
The girls LOVE hempy buckets! Always a little frostier, a little terpier and more vigorous overall.

A couple PCG Bomb 415 got transplanted to their flowering containers today. There is only room for though, so the other got topped and will get to spread her wings for about 6 weeks.

@BigF youve inspired me to start playing around with hempys again! i use pure coir for the most part so im not entirely sure if ill have to supplement that with perlite to get better wicking effect. i too faced root rot issues with i originally tried hempys, especially early on when the plants were as well established.

how do you sterilize your substrate? i sterilize because even fresh coir sometimes with pests that seemingly survive from the manufacturer. i pressure cook for 30m @ 15psi in two all american 941s. works wonderfully but its a fair bit of labor.

I am running Athena. Their Cleanse is hypochlorous acid, which does a fantastic job. Love hemp buckets, really seems to add a little everything. Did a test with my best known girl, one each in coco, Rockwood and coco hempy. The coco hempy was a clear winner, not massive but more than a little noticeable.

Fruit Gushers coming along, putting on lots of bulk early. Expecting XL buds.
Photo was done with Pro mode on my Android phone. Always looks yellow otherwise, trying to get the colors more like what I actually see in there.

Love the info guys,

Was wondering if anybody here has grown gushers og?

@BigF youre killing it! lovely colas youve got there. id expect her to start popping with color ~week 6-7. alot of those cuts are in the 10w range and dont really get that color coming out until really late. gushmints specifically (one of the parents of fruit gushers) really does need that full 10w to develop so im not surprised the color hasnt quite come out

@leetdood gushers og? is that a new one? i grew their plain old gushers cut from ~2018, she was a beast. big fan of anything with TK in the parental lineage.

Oh sorry @sardinebags I should’ve said its from cannarado. Legend og (respect cut) x gushers

ooooh shit. i bet thats fantastic. Cannarado puts out some serious heat. ive grown both those parents. the legend og is pretty stretchy though, almost viney. didnt like the structure but the buds were lovely and has this fantastic pinesol background note on the exhale. wish i kept that cut.

My buddy, and farmer joe, should have the crinkle cut of legend og

But this was made with the respect cut, which I don’t really know much about

My homie from down south was really nice to me, sent me absolute fire Rado packs and hazmat og. Gonna send him some beans in return, but I need to pop these sometime. Hazmat first most likely.
