Hii! So my boyfriend’s 30th birthday is coming up and I wanna make it a good one! He’s much more advanced when it comes to this stuff than I am.
He’s been smoking for years, I really just got into it recently. I am very much a plant mom, but I’ve never grown this. Anywho, I’d like some recommendations on small-ish grow tents, good lights, and seed sources! A couple of his favorite strains are Durban Poison, NF1, Northern Lights, Sunshine Daydream, and Grape Guava. If anyone can point me in the right direction of these things, is take appreciate it. ![]()
What’s your budget?
Since he’s into plants and you’re a “plant mom” yourself, you could make his birthday special without needing any specialist equipment. A fun idea might be to plan a day trip to a botanical garden or a hike somewhere beautiful and pack a picnic full of his favourite foods. You could also put together a little indoor herb garden kit or a few easy houseplants for him to tend. Cooking him dinner with fresh herbs or baking his favourite cake and including a handwritten card with some of your favourite memories together is always appreciated. It’s the thought and care you put into it that counts most—have fun planning!
this might be up his street or maybe
Or maybe this
Hope it helps
Viparspectra xs1500 is a great budget light that is suitable for a 2x2 space(or 2 of them for a 2x4).
They are on amzone sale for $85 pretty regularly. Good luck and HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Nice question @Ellesmere,
There are loads of choices for plushing out a boyfriend grower! You can’t go wrong with any of the suggestions above.
One idea might that would surprise him would be an Octopot grow system. I think the "official"Octopot ™ version is about $50 and it would plug him into a very rewarding and fun way to grow.
There is a ton of OctoInfo on Overgrow if you want to learn more, and it would give him a headstart.
Best regards to you and him,

Excellent idea!
You couldn’t get him a better present than an Octopot system!
Maybe you could but this would be right up there lol
If you dont know anything about his system, i wouldnt buy anything specific tbh
Difficult to buy someone deep in a hobby stuff for their hobby.
I find it easier to ask the person specifically what they wish they had for their hobby and keep a running list throughout time.
Not only do you then get them something that they actually WANT/NEED, it shows you pay attention to them when they talk.
It’s true. I like my setup just so.
Yeah man it’s all ab that budget but personally don’t think anyone needs to drop hundreds and hundreds of dollars just to grow a couple plants
It can be expensive or as cheap as you want really.
This very motto spills over into every facet of @Foreigner’s life.
I try to find a healthy mix of both.
The ac infinity 2x2x6 tent kits come with everything you need cept dirt and nutes and the beans. They can grow some nice plants.
I’m amazed so many people trust it/use it/feed the beast each to there own and that I don’t trust it much personally (ai)
There are a few different breeders who have been working with sunshine daydream. Also relatively common to be found traded on here.
This dude is homies with the original breeder
Dont know the relationship between this breeder and bodhi who originally made SSDD, but they made a seed company around the strain. They only have the sunshine daydream f3 (3rd generation) in a bundle pack but its all ssdd hybrids. I know they do occasionally sell it as a solo pack but it looks to be sold out at GLG
Grape guava might be hard to find. I think thats an old cannarado strain that has been discontinued.
Cannarado does some awesome work with grape pie still, so definitely worth checking them out. One of my favorite breeders
I like what @ClandestinLEE said ![]()

I have very specific things in mind for my grow setup; if my wife tried to surprise me without knowing exactly which products or brands I’m wanting/needing, she might get the wrong thing & while still very sweet, might not ultimately work for me ![]()
What I mean by this: maybe you’re thinking “any tent is as good as the next” & buy a cheap brand but maybe he was wanting a Gorilla Grow tent ![]()
Or maybe you get him a 4x4 but it might initially be too big for him? Or too small? It can become a burden “making do” with improper gear.
Ask what he wants/is looking for, quietly take notes, budget it out ![]()

My 2¢ on lighting: I personally don’t think the “top of the line” LEDs are worth that much more than the cheaper brands
by buying a Spider/Mars light instead of some crazy expensive brand, you might be missing out on like 2-4% quality but spending like 10-30% less to get you there. I personally love my Mars light, I grow dank with it ![]()

- To further clarify about cheap lighting: I meant this strictly from a new/budget grower’s standpoint. A higher quality light is “worth it” if you can afford it, may be more efficient & may even last longer, costing less money over the longhaul
I didn’t want it to seem like I was saying “don’t buy good gear” LMAO but definitely don’t buy a Porsche for your first car if U catch my drift

Also are you the one planning on growing?
That’s the impression i got from your post, but im also toasted pretty good right now and reading these comments i feel like i missed a post
