Ramping up after 20+ years

I do have a question since I have you here @shag @Papalag

I don’t seem to have smell from any of my plants. Maybe Ive become noseblind but am not even using my carbon filters on exhaust into lung room. Even the auto I chopped. Is it just me?

I’ve been very happy w Jacks classic. Easy measurement and the plants seem to love it.
Thanks to you and the other octo experts for doing the experiments to find a great schedule!

I think that is mostly genetics, if all else is going good, that is where I would start.
What did you grow and where did you get it from?

Autos are

Sour Fro-Yo @OnePassionateGrower (in full flower)
Drunken Cherry Fog Dog @darkillusion (1 of 5 just starting to flower)

Photos are FDM OG breeder mix.

Plants are healthy, was just expecting more smell.

Wait till week 8/9 then see the difference

Is there a smell when you rub the stems

Yes I do get smells from stem rub.

I will probably be wishing for no smell by week 8

Thanks

I used to think I was getting nose blind too. My plants would smell, but not a lot. The quality of the smoke was better than the dispensary’s, but the smell wasn’t. Then I got my first clone onlys, ECSD and Mendo Breath. I definitely wasn’t nose blind lol. I just needed to grow the right plants. So maybe finding plants that smell that strong is part of the “elite” part of clones? I grew a mother’s hashplant on my last grow, and as far as effects go, it’s the best thing I’ve ever grown from seed, but hardly any smell. This round I have one that smells as strong as any of the clones I’ve ever grown, so I’m really hoping it passes the smoke test

Maybe get a sack each of Gypsum(Ca) and Epsom(Mg)?

1/4 tsp Epsom & 1/2 tsp Gypsum per gallon as a starting point, adjust as needed by listening to your plants.

Photos got a trim, just shy of 3 weeks 12/12

Autos doing well. Some showing what appears to be Mag def.

Cheap as you can find.

Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) Agricultural Grade

Or it may be P, the LED’s do that to some of my plants and I hit em with mag and it did not seem to help.
Just food for thought here, I would not do anything other than consider it.
Try spraying Cal/Mag if you have it.
Mag nitrate spray would be the best to green em up but the epsom may work too.

Purchased some unfragranced epsom salts.

Says pure epsom salts. Should I be corcerned with any parameters to dissolve in water? It appearrs to all disappear when mixed w spoon but I worry. Tried mixing w hot water 185F but did not seem to improve dissolution without manual mixing.

I went against your advice using N based Cal and Mag since I wanted to have the luxury of using without worrying about N content going to flower. Any thoughts?

These are Autos w the deficiency. I’ve fed them all 103020 Jacks classic bloom from almost start. Was using CaliMagic but just switched to 0.5tsp epsom/0.5tsp gypsum per gal. 2 days ago. The def was showing before I made the change.

Can I mix a batch w the cal mag I have or should I putchase ready made foliar spray?

Also to note…I am using mini micropots for nutrition.

I see your reasoning and it makes good sense.
They may not green up as nice is all.
Also it is good to have N at the start of flower, not so much at the end.
Sprays are kind of a quick fix and only supply N for a short period.
Kinda like edibles, if you feed through the roots it will stay in the system longer.
Sprays are kinda like smoking, you get a quick heavy shot that disappears quickly.
I don’t mean to sway you.
Just food for thought.

No, make your own, foliar sprays are pretty forgiving, just get the PH right.
Between 5-7 is fine.
Cal mag is usually calcium nitrate and mag nitrate and that will be fine for a foliar spray.
Mix it fresh if you can or at least mix a new batch every 2-3 days max.

This could leave you low in N for veg.
The cal/mag does add some N too.
Again all just food for thought, you are there with your plants so you really know best.

Always appreciate the detailed advice @shag!

I’m going to see how they react to the new epsom / gypsum.

Have a great one :+1:
