Fantastic looking setup and what a score on the Emerald Mountain giveaway. Should find something seriously standout in a selection of that size.
Heard some great things about Sinister. Need to grab his NL5, myself. I’ve been on the hunt for quality baseline genetics for a long time. Between Sinister’s NL5 and @deep_rob’s NL1, I should have all I need to work into Shanti’s Ortega (5x1) for a quality NL5x1 IBL. But I digress.
Looking forward to more of your random stuff. Keep up the great work!

I just learned something from you. Never had a interest in Ortega untill I just read your post. Now I’m going to see what it consists of. People forget that nl dominated in the 90’s. It was throwing some of the most beautiful plants. I just want to have things that I can build with that has stood the test of time. I’m just playing and having fun now but soon it will be different. I’m working on learning how to grow organically. But I digress also. Yeah the NL is the real deal. Thank you for stopping by don’t be a stranger! @Dyad

A few quote from Shanti re: his Ortega work. His NL5 mom comes from beans Nevil made in ‘88 and was selected in ‘04, I’m almost positive (I’ve got the screenshot somewhere). Here he discusses popping the NL1xNL1 from ’88, which is where the male was selected from.

Yep @Zion Ortega is also said to be from maple leaf Wilson if I’m not mistaken…but yeah. I tell people all the time…dont sleep on shanti gear…you might have go do a good bit of hunting but its there. I still got cha on the stuff I said.

Shanti’s “Ortega” and what Nevil referred to as Ortega are unrelated. The “Ortega” Nevil referred to came from the Maple Leaf Wilson mix he offered in his early catalogue (what became known as Maple Leaf Indica). Why Shanti chose that name in particular, I don’t know. I speculated for a long time that it was because the male he used was an Ortega (MLI) x NL1, since Nevil made this cross prior to being busted. But then I came across the post where he says specifically he popped an NL1xNL1 inbred line and shifted my perspective to it being pure NL.
The name game is confusing, especially when Shanti is so recluse these days and his strain descriptions on the MNS site are pretty vague.

I’m with you there. I think Shit stems from the AfgT x Skunk (Super Skunk) line, but inbred. While the Nordle stems from the AfgS x Skunk line, but inbred.
I’ve also read where shanti says Shit is just Sk#1 x Sk#1 just using an Afghan heavy mother selection. For a while on CannabisWorld he referred to some of his early skunk crosses and things like “Shit x —“.

Just top off what you provided above… either Nevil had no clue what Shanit was doing, or he was more open and transparent than Scott, because he contradicted him a few times.
Here, he suggests that Nordle (known only as Afghan Skunk for a while before the name change) is from the Super Skunk line. My reasoning for postulating that Nordle was from AfgS and not AfgT was that Shanti changed the name to Nordle after Howard commented that it was so hashy it reminded him of the old smuggling days and “Nordle” was their code name for hash. AfgS was the fruity Hashplant type and AfgT was the skunk type.
So we have a couple possibilities here…
Shit = AfgT x Skunk
Nordle = AfgS x Skunk
(Or)
Shit = Skunk x Skunk
Nordle = AfgT x Skunk and no lines contain AfgS
The puzzle gets deep, man. I’ve been in the rabbit hole for 13 years, now.

Where Nevil describes taking AfgSxSk to Sk and then to SS…
(AfgT/Sk x (AfgS/Sk x Sk)) which could be where the Nordle IBL comes from, which is another theory I’ve postulated over the years.
