So are friends!!!
Hey man I always tell people to pick up a Jorge Cervantes book and check out grow weed easy for some of the fundamentals. Keep it simple get a quality organic potting soil like Fox farm coast of Maine Roots organic and grab dry organic amendments Gaia green down to earth then water. If using tap water try to get an idea of the quality but hard to mess that style up.
Growing is a great way to keep yourself occupied and keep depression at bay. Glad to hear you’re back!
I’m gonna second @Headies12green and say hit up growweedeasy.com. Pick up a bag of perlite, a bag of peat, and a bag of worm castings. 2:1:1 ratio of peat:perlite:castings, and grab Dr. Earth veg and bloom dry amendments. Shoot for 30 watts per square foot or so, get an inline fan and an oscillating fan, and pop some beans!
Welcome back @GratefuLez ! We’re happy to have you again friend, as far as a tent goes - there are a million options, and you could put as much or as little research as you’d like. There are plenty of entry level grow tent kits that will get you to the finish line for 300-500 depending on the size you’d like to start with. My first tent was a Vivosun 3x3 kit that I got on a decent discount, which I’m sure a lot of the tent company’s are running 420 sales right now as well.
If you have questions about a specific brand or light, the search bar is great for answers or just asking again in your thread!
There are a lot of guides/tutorials on OG itself if you hit the menu button and find ‘GrowFAQ’ there is some good stuff, although a lot of it is a handful of years old so could be dated.
Like @Headies12green & @slippy790 said, GrowWeedEasy is a great website and I read their main basics/tutorial dozens of times during my first bit of time getting into the craft.
I hope OG can be a helping hand in sorting out your depression and getting yourself back, if there are any questions I can help with I’d be happy to ![]()
@GratefuLez welcome back from your sabbatical, good to see you around.
There is alot of great information on this site… most simple questions (and some not so simple) can be answered by the search engine and just posting when you have a question.
As far as starting out, yea i would get a tent… keeps light out at dark times and definitely helps with getting light every where…
Growing medium is up to you… soil, coco, hydro… all kinds of information to soft through to see what fits…
Lights and nutrients however will probably take you more research… start simple with nutrients for the forst few grows til you can get a rhythm and then gradually increase extra things… alot of great 1part or 2 part start to finish nutes out there…
Lights… there is the pain lol…
Hey, welcome back! I know those depths well myself. I’m still pretty new, but I can confirm this is a great place to meet lovely people and get tons of information and advice.
I’ll follow along and be cheering for you!
Welcome back! This is just a note of encouragement in your growing adventure and maybe a slice of advice: plants can die, and growers can make mistakes. Nothing to beat yourself up over, just come to the forums and search for help. Chances are, someone else is either going through what you are, or they already did and figured out something that works ![]()
Good to see your back kid!!
So many great folks in here.
All the best to ya!

CocoForCannabis.com has good science based info about basic growing. THe whole thing made no sense to me, so much bro science and flat out wrong info around, until I found that site.
Welcome back @GratefuLez I see a ton of great comments here. I will add as someone who gets to the edge and doesn’t pull the trigger quite often you are welcome to dm me any questions you have at any time. I don’t know that I’ll always have the answer (I definitely will not), but I will help however I can. The only real trick is just start. You got this.
I’d be very careful in their fourm.
I just looked in the Journals section, I love looking at gardens.
There was nothing buy BOT messages, the whole way down.
In the past, I was stupid and clicked on one once…just once!
I did see some very good articles, in there, but it is a book selling site, and it needs someone to clean up that BOT shit.
Growing brought me back. Good luck and much blessings
More people over water than under water: plants breathe thru they roots!
Don’t spend too much money on seeds, save it for hvac/environmental controls!
My two biggest pieces of advice after growing for a few years. Good luck and OGTW!
