Recovering Opiate/Pill Addicts

Hey guys I’ve seen quite a few people mentioning their past opiate and pill addiction on various threads so figured why not start one up on the topic…been down that road many times haha but it really is neverending recovery. Growing and consuming cannabis provides nice relief from the burden of those lowered serotonin levels from years of hard living and I’ve found more sativa leaning strains alleviate the stress and boredom. As you all know it’s pretty much day by day with the disease of addiction but glad there’s gardening and marijuana to guide us along the pathway. Btw so glad I get out of the game years ago before the fent and more hybrid substances hit the scene bc that would’ve been even more difficult.

Kratom* I have to say that as someone who consumed many of the opmi little shots they sold. They taste like shit and I never got those effect. I’m glad they are tightening up restrictions on things. I mean this is a big pharma backed problem. Government started this epidemic so they could get some fat ass paychecks. I have to say I tell people all the time cannabis is my harm reduction.

LSD or ibogaine can push the reset button in your brain.

Kratom? I bought kratom as a pain medication a couple of years ago, both the red veined and white veined Borneo leaf varieties.
I reckon I bought about 4 or 5 kilos all in all, and there’s no way it’s comparable to morphine
Don’t believe the scare stories, try it yourself, or don’t.
It was an ok pain medication but works out more expensive than cannabis. But yeh Kratom works differently for different people :v:

Yeah man kratom Suboxone methadone and on and on they all help to maintain but psychedelics def assist too… some of us have that certain brain chemistry where it’s a neverending fight. Without a doubt though cannabis is my daily balance otherwise who knows where we would be.

I got off Suboxone after years on them, the last time I took a piece of one was in December 2023 getting close to 2 years now, I know some people stay on them for life but for me, one of the best choices I made in my life was getting off of them…

Mental clarity returned, I’m less emotionally numb, I’m more “myself” now as when I was on them I felt less like my own personality if you get what I mean.

Everyone is different, but l feel much better with just cannabis as my daily driver and the occasional psychedelic if I’m feeling like I need a refresher.

Addiction isn’t easy and I empathize with everyone who has battled it over the years on and off like I have.

I remember when the oxy pills were being handed out like candy by doctors. I never tried them but saw a lot of people go from oxy pills to heroine.
One town in West Virginia had several million pills go through it but only had a population of a few hundred people.
The lawyer that worked for the pill company and started the whole epidemic is now the state attorney general.
It’s unbelievable! You cant make this shit up!

They formalized their tactics with the opium wars. This is nothing new. Now that US had Afghan supply chain on hold and controlled for two decades, it gave time to facilitate synthetic distribution channels to replace the old natural ones.

One thing ive noticed about kratom, all the folks i know who switched from opiods to kratom, rock a pretty comparable level of intoxication as before they switched.

I will say, their overall quality of life does seem better, but its not like they solved or worked on their addiction issues. Theyre just using a different crutch. Sometimes its just as difficult to deal with them from an outside perspective.

On a side note papaver somniferum are amazing plants and I’ve grown a couple in the yard just for fun. Lovely colors and interesting structure… A few years ago remember a guy that got popped growing massive amounts in North Carolina.

On todays episode of you should have kept your mouth shut (quote from the article)

“One of our narcotics investigators came to the house looking for something else," Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid told the [Hickory Daily Record] “When he knocked on the door, the guys said, ‘I guess you’re here about the opium.’””

Funny enough in a sick way, injectable morphine was given to and addicted thousands of US Civil War soldiers. Then they started giving out heroin which they had figured out how to synthesize to combat the addiction to morphine!

Ban on opium in 1909? Then the narcotics division around the 1920s? Then hemp tax and the drug war was on in full force after that…(approximate years off top of my head)

Purdue pharmacy got a slap on the wrist at 600 million in modern times…gross negligence and eventual bankruptcy but long after the damage had been done

Tramadol is another one that isnt seen as being as bad, but they give that shit out like candy and it was pretty addictive to me…not as strong as roxy or morphine 30s, but its so common, it was easier to get/less expensive…i never liked subs, they just put me to sleep and all fucked up cant wake up…

psychedelics, staying away from the people using, and cannabis are how i stay away from most of my addictive habits…of course, this freaking phone is my main addiction now :disappointed:

I feel for everyone who has the bug :frowning:

I’m someone who struggled with addiction for years and in a way still do. I’ve been clean for 10 years though but now I’m dealing with issues where I’ve been need non narcotic pain meds and the side effects have been so bad for me. It sucks

The person who answered the door admitted they were growing them for opium when the cops showed up for an unrelated issue

Myself personally I am a recovering fent/heroin/meth addict, I’ll actually have two years clean of everything - including cannabis - tomorrow.

My thoughts on kratom are nebulous as I’ve certainly used kratom in a not-unhealthy way in other periods of abstinence from opiates and it was a really good way to scratch that itch without the danger of OD’ing or getting a stash of drugs that would end up with me using again. Kratom doesn’t really have that “wake up and immediately do it again” feeling.

However, when I was deep into fent, I would use Kratom to keep withdrawals at bay, and eventually did end up using it daily for a long time. It was actually the last thing that I quit. I think that Kratom can be used very successfully to step down from hard drugs, and I’ve quit heroin with little pain by using a carefully tapered dose of Kratom. Kratom, to me, is much easier to get off of than other opiates.

The danger comes in the in unregulation of Kratom where you never know what pesticides were applied, and if you’re using a large enough dose, can really fuck you up. I also think that having easy access to kratom if you are in the “I need to constantly stay fucked up” mindset is both dangerous and potentially helpful as Kratom is much, much safer than harder opiates. With Kratom, your body reaches a point where it can absorb no more, and then you just throw it up.

My personal journey - I have been growing throughout my sobriety and I absolutely love growing. I have also not had issues with cannabis as I have with other drugs - I’ve never lost a job, never stolen anything for weed, but I did stay constantly high 24/7 and that completely kneecapped my drive and ambition. Every time I have had extended times of abstinence from cannabis and started smoking, it’s been right back to all day every day.

So I have been working with my psychologist - who specializes in a harm reduction model - to start to incorporate cannabis use in a very controlled, very mindful way, and I plan on meeting with her on Wed, and smoking on Friday for the first time in 2 years. We have made an exhaustive mental, emotional, and physical plan to smoke Friday only, take two weeks off until I meet with her again, and evaluate and break down the experience. My long term goal is to smoke once, maybe twice a week. I want to be able to sample and describe the cultivars that I grow in terms of flavor and effects, but I want to be smart about it and use it as a benefit to my life, not a crutch.

Thank you for reading my pontifications if you’ve made it this far, feel free to reach out to me with any questions or comments. Thank you and much love to everyone here!

Right, i read the article, but until they are being actively harvested, that field and all those numbers are made up, at least from my understanding because they are legal to grow.

Side note…45k bond is wild

I’m not the right person to talk about that side of it mate, I’m disabled and take pain meds to help me with a spinal injury. I don’t take anything for the sake of intoxication and I don’t get stoned anymore.
Kratom gave ok pain relief for me but that was it, I didn’t get any stoned or high feelings :v:
