ReikoX's Workshop 2021

Interesting…I’ve just been throwing a few soap nuts in a hemp bag into the water and letting them soak a bit before watering. I could see how soaking them in vegetable glycerin might work a little better. Seems like it would ensure a more even blend with the water.

Still doing some research on my Blumat upgrade. After my initial design, I realized I did my math wrong and forgot to include the height of the beds. The instructions for the height state that you need 0.5m of height for every 5m of tubing used. When I totaled the planned tubing length, I ended up with about 30’ of total tubing. Using the 1:10 ratio, that means I need 3’ of height. Adding in the 12" height of the beds, I needed the reservoir to be about 4’. There is no way I was going to make a 4’ tall stand, so I decided to re-work the design as a shelf.

The shelf is made of some spare studs leftover from when I rebuilt the workshop. I even found the perfectly sized piece of plywood already cut. I even had some leftover paint from the doors, so I gave them a quick coat before assembling it.

Finally, I was able to get the shelf installed and the reservoir is in place, but empty. I’m still waiting on a few pieces I had to order.

The kit I have has six Blumats, which is perfect because I usually run two plants per bed. Each of these will water a diameter of approximately 20-25cm. If I were to simply use the Blumat at the base of the plant, it would leave quite a bit of the bed underwatered. In this case, I decided to use the distribution drippers. Each of these will water a diameter of approximately 20cm (blue circles). Each bed will have two Blumat sensors (green dots) each with four distribution drippers (black dots). The beds will be fed from the reservoir in the veg room via the 8mm supply loop (red lines).

What’s the capacity of your reservoir? Have you considered adding a water level monitor on the outside of your res? Just curious.

Also, speaking from experience…don’t put in more than a couple gallons of water at a time until you have things pretty well dialed in. A gallon or two of runaway water is much easier to deal with than 15.

It’s gonna be awesome to be able to watch and see how the blumats work for you. Some people swear by them, others not so much…

Nice . I really don’t know what else to say so professional looking

It’s a 12.4 gallon reservoir. Noted, I will likely start with only 5 gallons my beds could easily take that much water without too big a mess.

I’ve heard really good things about blumats and my local grow shop owner uses them himself and recommends them. Looked into them recently because I’m automating as much as possible for awhile but the whole reservoir and pot heights thing wouldn’t work cause I’m in small pots at floor level. Went with dinky pump system instead. I’m curious to see how you make out with these them though.

They should really shine in these beds.

I like them. The problem I have is I move my plants a lot. I will be slowing down to 2 in a 4x4 tent. I’m very interested is doing that. I didn’t mean for it to copy like that

Very nice set up! Curious, even when you will be using 5 gallons, would it be reasonable to say whether more gallons than the amount used would help to increase pressure…?
Love the Meanwell drivers stacked up on the left!!! :hugs:

Hey I forgot to mention this but I gave my buddy an early sample of the Ghost Rose (been curing ~3 weeks). Not only did he love it but he came back last night and asked for more. He has a ton of stomach issues where it hurts most of the time. He said all the other bud he’s smoked tends to flare it up to some degree but with the GR he said it’s the first bud he’s ever smoked that didn’t effect it.

Not sure if it’s my growing or the strain but I thought that was pretty cool! You happen to know if there’s some CBG to the GR?

I’ve had much better experiences with blumats in my outdoor veggie beds than my indoor…but mostly due to things I’ve done differently outdoors using my indoor experience as a guide. LOL

Yes, but not enough to go over the max recommended pressure. Once everything is dialed, I may fill it more.

No. Not that I am aware of. Glad your buddy got some relief from it.

You know, I almost didn’t paint the shelf. But I though to myself, everything else in there look so neat and tidy, I kind of have to…

I’d expect keeping the res over 1/2 full would keep a more stable/even pressure, but like you said not enough by far to go over the recommended pressure. It would be tough to get more than 15psi without running a pump or straight off a hose spigot.

That tracks, a lot of people suggest not letting it drop below 20% before filling. Since I run RO water only through these, that shouldn’t be an issue.:+1::seedling:

I invested in a UVC bulb for the resivoir. I’ll run it for about 15 minutes a day to keep any bio film from building up.
