Return to growing after almost 20 years..

My friends! Sorry for the delay in update since the chop time. Close to 60days! Let’s dive in and find out the stuff we learned this grow.

The Bruce Banner just hogged all the space and light in the tent. What a huge plant this thing became. I have never seen anything like it. It out vegged the other plants and by the time the flip happened it was king of the tent and claimed ownership of 80% of the light.

It crowded the other plants, which caused them not to produce as many buds and the ones they produced were light. On another note, the buds that were not produced by the other plants, the bruce banner overproduced like a champ.

I did lose a few buds from the top of the plant that hit the lights. They got burned up and you don’t want to smoke that crap. I can’t tell you how many times I topped the bruce banner during growing and couple of weeks of flowering, but I gave up!

I will grow this one again but probably not in a tent.

The Maui wowie had very big leaves at the beginning of veg. They were very pointy, and the new leaves would look wrinkled when they were unfolding (maybe too much light?). It was denied the space and light the most out of the other plants and it shows. I didn’t even use a trimmer to trim the harvest because there was simply not enough.

The Sour Diesel gave off a sour smell when flowering. It made me go around the grow house and make sure I didn’t have an old ½ empty beer can left in the grow house or something. Again, this plant was crowded but had some light and produced some buds, but some were light in weight. It has a nice sour sweet tart smell to it.

The G13 was crowded as well. It was a beautiful plant, with great structure, cattail looking buds. There is not much to say about it yet, but it suffered at the hands of the bruce banner like the rest with being crowded.

Another issue I had with the other plants is I think the heat inside of the tent and lack of light caused the stalks to “fall over” I actually had stalks on the maui wowie that just didn’t bend over, the top of the stalks bent over at the top.

I think the issues that caused this are:

Heat: The tent got very hot 89F for a couple of weeks during lights on.

Water: I did something different this time. I usually fill up my octos once a day (3 gallon ones) but after reading that some growers let them empty I went three days on them. Because of the high heat I think the plants didn’t get enough water and nutes causing them to not be able to build the infrastructure to support buds on the plant. I won’t do this again because I feel like the octos need to be filled every day when you are having temps 85F and above.

Light: Again, the crowding of the other plants by the bruce banner did not allow them to get enough light.

I think when you look at the numbers it is still quite impressive grow. First time getting over a pound of trim bud but you can see the Hulk being the front running and carrying the show. I didnt get anymore than I normally do from a 5x5 tent. 1.5pounds is my avg.

The bruce banner tested at 21%. I did not get the rest tested as the new testing product at the grow shop I don’t like. I question how accurate it is. It doesn’t test moisture either and that is the main reason I would get strains tested.

Why do I record the shake? Shake is important to me because I make hash out of it. 7OZ of shake will produce about 20grams or more of hash/edibles. So I am getting two products off the plants so I included it as part of the numbers. I have yet to have to wash buds for hash and so far this year I have made 2 oz of hash off last years trim.

Update on the outside grow.
Mirraculm / green crack was chopped on 09/28/2024. It started flowering in the 3rd week in July. There was a lot of humidity and rain in Aug/Sept. I did not want to take a chance to bud rot. The trichs looked fat and cloudy so I chopped it. I ended up getting 12oz of trim bud off Mirraculm which is the most on one plant since I came back to growing in 2021. Remember that Mirr came up on her own from a old root ball i threw out.

Next grow.

Well, I had made clones and was going to grow the same 4 strains but I ended up miss labeling the cups. My stoner ass also poured some water mixed with oganieshield in a few of the clone cup and it didn’t like it one bit. So, we only got three plants this grow but it will be nice to see how the other strains grow without hulking BB around. One of them is a BB but I got this grow under control and planted it after the others had hit the water, so they were basically the same size when I flipped.

It only took them 36 days to veg, which is incredible if you ask me.

They have been in octos since the last harvest. They now have been flowering for 2 weeks. Everything is looking good and hopefully the Bruce won’t go full stupid again and I can get a descent haul of the other strains.

I had left over clone in red cups and nothing to do with them so I am flowering them too just like last year.

That is all my friends! Good talk!
