Ripening beans in dark - is it a f* up?

Have a plant running, loaded with special beans.

At the time the thought was let it go an extra two weeks in the dark, on the plant. Did it this spring with some small plants I ran this spring - seemed to darken the beans nicely, but I didn’t test them…

Now I just had a thought, with mom freaking out in the dark, her chemistry changing, sending out different hormones, could this effect the seed in anyway?

Worst case I was thinking usher in a chemical setup to induce intersex traits within the seed, as mom is probably trying her best to do this now.

Am I out to lunch?

It’s been a dark inside a week, maybe I should bring it back out into the light? Then chop? Not sure what’s the best course of action, I assume if there is a worst case scenario, the damage is done. Should just chop and hang now? Majority of seeds are dark anyway. .

After this thought - my course of action was swift.

First step was posting to OG. :joy:

Since, chopped out half of the plant, hung to dry and returned the remaining plant to finish a week outside with some others still going.

Why the hell didn’t I just keep it out there with the others? I’ve got a bad paranoia that comes with very stinky plants, and I dont want these beans growing wings. I’m fairly remote, but tis the time of the year, and I know even hunters know the difference between skunk and SKUNK.

Other than being a bit toasty from low water, she looks fine, no new leaves or signs of nanners, just chock full of beans.

Maybe you’ll get lucky and it will encourage them to flower faster next time.

most likely just 60 degrees 60% humidity goood air flow, if you are trying for some smoke

The room is good exhaust and airflow with a cool temp. For the smoke, I find it cures up real nice.

This is my thoughts on that live plant you see in the back of the room on that 5 gallon pail. It doesn’t have any smokeable flower, it’s all seed.

I think you’re sweating it too much. If you need some peace of mind just cut a branch just in case. But I think everything’s gonna be just fine.

Landraces ripen their beans just fine when they are in the shade … it will make no difference to the ripening of beans as plants don’t stop growing in the dark :slightly_smiling_face:
