Root crown/taproot question

Hey all, got another question for you. Grew this (HubbabubbaSmelloScope x Skystomper 2.0) Meph freebie in a 3-gal fabric pot, chopped at 85 days yesterday.
Got around to emptying the pot and wanted to check out the root system.

Was this plant root bound? The large , almost swollen taproots remind me of when my Spider plant was rootbound. Is this normal root development? Just seemed strange that there were so many tuber-like ‘arms’ for roots instead of the normal 1-3 I’ve seen from my grows.

This plant was also a weird one. Another observation I make is the number of ‘arms’ attached to the root crown are roughly the same amount of branches that extend from the main stem with buds.
As above, so below.

I would say not rootbound.

I run rootbound all the time and the media is a solid white block of roots.

Maybe just strange root system development attached to the strain ? Added Bigfoot myco granules to the mix she was in, used Growers Recharge throughout grow , could be numerous things

Doubt it’s the inputs and is more likely genes.

Nice big carrots anyway.

Very vascular. I like it.

What was the media?

Initially rooted her in Dr Earth Pot of Gold for the first week or so after she germed, and then into her final pot was mostly HP Promix and a cup more of the POG, amended with Ocean Forest twice in veg.

A quick Google search tells me they’re toxic if consumed in large quantities because of the large amount of alkaloids present in the roots… tbh, I’d probably just sautée them with some butter, garlic, etc. There’s about 8 I could use. Potentially mildly toxic… but I feel small enough of an amount to be safe?

I’m so curious. lol

I mean, we literally smoke the stuff, but weed is a bio-accumulator, especially since I fed with GH Floraseries mainly, that’s the concern lol. I might be full of microplastics anyways, so who knows

nyah, after wot you googled (good on ya) and all the chems u put in it, me, i wouldn’t try eating it. maybe if it was organically growed, i might just to taste it. but i’ll give you 10:1 it’ll taste shitty. Then again, maybe nobody ever knew the psychedelic properties of weed roots, and you’d become famous…blasted and famous. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yeah… feel it’d turn out how cooking fiddleheads did–fun for the thrill of the experiment, but not great tasting.

Also, you wouldn’t be entirely wrong, some alkaloids have psychotropic properties, some of which might be stored in the roots. At least, that’s dependent on how well my Google-fu worked.

If anything, I’ll probably either dry it and turn it into an art piece or compost.

i swear somebody in OG posted a stick they did from a huge ass weed stalk. it was so cool. I google-fu’ed this one tho:

wow the site’s got a page w/a cane w/a rootball, talk about cool.

Those same alkaloids make a wonderful addition to a cannabis topical cream however. :+1::seedling:

Wow, those are cool! Would be incredible to have a crystal ball or something surrounded by the roots, but not surprised, since they are super rigid up by the crown and manipulating them would break them easily.

Oooh interesting… would love to take a shot at some topical cream one day, hahah
