Rosin press suggestions?

Yeah, I’m thinking dry ice for sure. I’m sure I can find it somewhere around here.

Fuck no and I’m getting pissed off. The press has been sitting at the FedEx depot about 20 miles from here since last Sunday night at 6:30, and there’s still no scheduled delivery date. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

BTW, 2nd unit was still F*ed from the factory. one more RMA when they open…
[ i can fix it myself but I’d have to order a drill press first so the holes line up. Lol , no really]

@Guitarzan - you gotta have a sense of humor at my ikea hell.

when your unit shows up [ box intact ] check your uprights first thing.
they drilled the mounting holes on the wrong end [right side ]

At this point, I’m starting to feel like it’s some sort of passive-aggressive thing. They don’t wanna be there working, I don’t really wanna be ordering things by mail, we’re all just kind of like,”Okay, enough of this. Let’s drill the holes on the wrong side,” or whatever. Just to make things interesting. Or give them something to do. I dunno. “Let’s destroy this box and see if it still gets delivered.”

I plan to ask them which unit did they want me to order

and then well let’s go with that one…

NugSmasher is having a Labor Day sale, if you want to go with something simple and desktop sized.

My local grocery store sells it for $2/lb at the front service desk. Should be able to call around and find it local like that ^^

Yeah, I’m fairly certain I won’t have any trouble sourcing it. Los Angeles is a big city and pretty much anything you want is available 24/7, so I don’t anticipate having a hard time getting it. And getting it delivered to my front door, too haha.

that shit likes to fly off the paper, jar or what ever. it tastes awesome but flying flakes always wind up some place you would rather not have a sticky blob

Chinese plates
20 ton press with gauge
37um press bags
extra slick parchment
cereal bowl full of dehumidified dry ice hash

Start preheating plates to 190F. Fill press bag most of the way full with hash. Sandwich between two pieces of parchment. Fold over tail underneath to keep from spilling out the back. Place hash/rosin bag in the center, slightly toward the back. Keep pulling handle to compress slowly after contact until the pressure just barely registers on the needle. Wait several minutes to see rosin start flowing. If no rosin flow, increase 10 degrees and wait several more minutes. The reason for taking this part slowly is to ensure good thermal distribution in the hash and ensure that the temperature is correct before pressing further.

Once flow is initiated, increase pressure to 1ton. Wait for probably at minute or so until flow stagnates. Double pressure to 2 tons. Wait… If rosin starts overflowing, release pressure, collect rosin and start 2nd press, starting again at 2 tons. Finally double pressure again to 4 tons and wait for flow to stop.

That’s pretty much my whole process. It takes a while to get your process down, but over time you find small ways to improve. After a few years of practice, I feel quite proficient now. All of this was made from trim!

20 miles I’d have been there. Fuck that noise.

I called FedEx and talked to a manager, and asked him if I could just go pick it up, and he said no. Turns out there are only certain depots that allow direct pickups, and my press isn’t at one of them.

I asked him what my options were when FedEx has my shipment, but won’t deliver it, or let me come pick it up. He just kept repeating “we have a high volume of shipments right now”. It’s really pissing me off. I figured I’d be waiting on the plates, but they’ll be here tomorrow. UPS is bringing those.

This is the future we have to look forward to if they privatize the mail. It’s insane to me that anybody would think that abolishing the USPS is a good idea…

Could you just show up there and demand to get your press? What’re they gonna do if you go there? Kick you out? Honestly, I think they’d be stoked if you went and got it. One less bulky, heavy-ass package to deliver.

Thanks for this, that process upped my return significantly. Only my second run to go to the press.

I pressed 18 grams of that dry ice sift with some 37 micron 2x4 bags and got back just about 7 grams of rosin. Pretty sure I could’ve pressed each bag a third time at the minimum and might later.

Edit:
To reiterate a bit, I used a laser thermometer to make sure both my plates were both at around 200F. This meant the lower plate was set to 88C and the top plate was set to 110C, make sure you know how you’re plates heat or are calibrated!. I don’t have a guage on here to exactly repeat the process but you can feel and see when it just starts getting pressure like described and when the rosin is flowing. Definitely seems more like an art form

Looks great! Glad it worked out well for you. Good idea about the laser thermometer. I’ll have to take mine downstairs and check!
