As a young teenager the possibility of producing quality flower in restricted spaces using Autoflowering varieties derived from C. Ruderalis cultivars intrigued me (to say the least). Maybe, it was due to the fact that tending to 6"+ plants in an prohibitionist state did not seem feasible in my (then) current situation; but still it was an itch I could not simply scratch away.
As time progressed and my research evolved, I quickly found that so much more (than a little cabinet with an ounce of dry flower) was possible through breeding with these varieties and made it the main focus of my growing efforts almost up until my early twenties.
This is despite me being privileged to what old school Florida cats were doing indoors with cut-only operations in the early 2000s. I appreciated the ability to store and use seed to later be grown inconspicuously.
With persistence came perseverance and I eventually started coming across varieties that were not only capable of standing next to the photos; but at times brought with them the ability to surpass what friends were doing.
Today, I firmly believe that autoflowering varieties are a viable alternative to both home-growers and commercial producers for operations aimed at more than industrial (seed/fiber) production.
For this reason, I dedicate this series to the Ruderalis Redemption and all those who made it possible.
With ample experience trying everything that was autoflower at the time (from the Lowryder to the Ogre to the Original Dinafem & Sweet Seeds Autos), when a seedbank called “Short Stuff Seeds” launched their autoflowering lines, I was one of the first on board in 2009/10 and quickly fell in love with the Russian Rocket Fuel by Breeder Stitch. Extremely limited in resources and knowledge, it was he who guided me in reproducing the strain and even suggested I seek local heirloom and landrace sativas to incorporate in the development of Fast & Autoflower varieties.
I was extended the opportunity to help move his lines; but was never able to do so or even actually repay him for sharing his knowledge and pushing me forward as a grower.
In honor of the OG spirit demonstrated by this individual, I will dedicate a line, the “Linha de Pipa” to Breeder Stitch’s work and kindness. The main goal of the project will be to develop a unique autoflowering variety that will allow growers to cultivate & breed for flowers that remind them of that old school sativa with the benefits of a short cycled autoflower (12 weeks or less).
Along with the Linha de Pipa, this series will contemplate a seed increase or two & other crosses that may or may not contribute to the line.
Each will eventually go on it’s own thread and count with summarized updates on this one.

You should take a peak at these seeds, Chebarkul. Its sourced directly from Siberia and they where one of the absolute first building blocks for auto flowering cannabis. Khalifa Genetics offer them atm. Pz
You’re absolutely right. In fact, I have a few of the seeds supposedly obtained through (GoLT) set aside (from multiple sources) and absolutely intend on obtaining more as permitted.
Your post resonates big time. I’ve had similar thoughts kicking through my head consistently for a while of the sativa high that I love in a autoflower package. This has appealed to me particularly as a northerly grower. I will he watching here if that is cool.
NOTE I fully intend on including some 3 Bear/ Mendo in a an outcross featured on this series, and would really love to shout out the donor / creator as well as give back some of the resulting seed-stock when I do!
Great idea for a thread! I recently crossed an auto NorthernLights/Malawi with an Oaxaca male from @Upstate. In the spirit of OG, if anyone would like to carry this F1 to F3 for the community, i will donate the beans.
This is exactly what I have been thinking about pursuing in the future. I am very grateful to be here for the show! Pulling up a seat and cleaning off my glasses 🥸
Was this featured on one of your threads? I would love to hear more about them. According to what you’ve described (and if I understood it correctly), you hit an Autoflowering NLxMalawi (from Ace seeds) with @Upstate’s Oaxacan male/dust?
From my understanding, that cross would likely throw mostly Sativa Dominant Photoperiod phenotypes and if you want to drive the autoflowering trait forward (from what I’ve been told), the pool from which you pull the male should be an autoflowering line.
I haven’t personally taken any Fast / Accelerated Growth Varieties to f2 as of yet, and will only get to those once I have the space to look through more materials for the project. Initially the increases will come first, with a possible chuck chuck here and a chuck chuck there along the way.
Still, who knows if we can’t find someone to work the line.
As mentioned before these runs are not yet set up; but I figured I’d start laying out the plans to help make the right decisions when the time does come.
Make yourself comfortable, OG. Please, feel free to take your time… I will be taking mine!
@ciganomarola - Yes, i had a female auto NorthernLights/Malawi and crossed it with pollen from an photoperiod Oaxaca male. The Oaxaca seeds came from Upstate’s Cryptic Lab repro. I had two males, but one of them was intersex, so i threw that one away. I also am using the Oaxaca pollen on several other plants in my garden.
As far as i know, growing out the F2s should result in 25% of the progeny being auto. Crossing those auto F2s should lock the auto genes into the F3 generation. As far as i know, it shouldn’t matter if the auto gene comes from the mother or the father. Have you read something different?
I’m always up for a good read. You’ve got clear goals and a sound plan, which is a great way to start any project. Best of luck. I’ll be tagging along, when things get rolling @ciganomarola .
I have. At this point I can’t recall where; but if I’m not mistaken, when I decided to do the first iteration of Petroberries, it’s the reason I went that route. I was either told or read that going about it the other way would barely yield any autoflowering hets.
Thanks @Budderton. I appreciate it and am pleased to learn you’ll be joining us on this journey.
I just spent the past hour on Autoflower.net and there’s quite a few threads where people bred female autos with male photoperiod plants, so i think the auto Oaxaca project should work just fine.
I could absolutely be mistaken. A lot of what I was privy to at the time was anecdotal. I see both being cited with MY explicitly stating it does not make a difference.
I am wiling to accept that the day neutral trait will start demonstrating as of the f2 at approximately 25% in both; but we’ll have to settle it the good old fashioned way to be sure.
