Possibly a dumb question but all the plants in my tent have been receiving the same nutrient, light, etc. So this confuses me. The plant on the lower left appears to be suffering a minor nutrient deficiency, despite being the slowest growing. Why would this be, and also, would I be correct in identifying nitrogen as the culprit?
My expertise is really in hydro, but a N deficiency in such a young plant is usually expressed with yellowing across the whole plant. That looks to me like an issue with water/drainage, roots, or pests. Either way, it hasn’t progressed and it’s still so young that you’ll be fine.
Prior to yesterday I just had my 5 gals laying on a flat bakers sheet or in saucers, so probably drainage id imagine. when rectified I probably had 350ml runoff per plant.
I didn’t think about pests though. Do you think neem oil or diotomaceous earth would be the most effective first step?
Thanks for the info man. I hadnt correlated the discoloration with my prior drainage issue
Moved all of em outside, and this little girl is really taking off outdoors in the full sun:)
The other two are still in the shade, cigarette butt for scale.
Rumor has it that this is Dutch dragon X Creamsicle.
Now a bitta backstory. Someone I had over fixing the garbage disposal just left in the middle of the job but went back home, came back, dropped 3 plants off at my door. Unfortunately two of em bit it b
ecause I hadn’t grown a plant for 4-5 years and couldn’t remember what was what, and was growing outdoors in the southern Arizona heat.
He didn’t come back to finish the job for almost a week . I kept all of em alive for about a month. Had one of em turned into a properly massive plant.
This is the one that I killed a month ago trying to move it before a storm. Was pretty decently sized, too. Unfortunately she’s gone, but rest in power.
Losing her is what really pushed me to move indoors and invest in a decent setup.
You should definitely make a batch of JohnnyPotseed’s One & Done pesticide to keep on hand. It works 1000x better than neem oil. I’ve never used DE, but I’d bet your initial issues were due to bad drainage and not pests anyway.
You’re a savage for growing outdoors in AZ btw! I’m in the desert as well and I only know a few people that have been successful growing outdoors in that crazy summer heat
So I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d like to have the things to successfully take clones on hand, as I’m growing from standard seeds and have a relatively decent place to keep a mother plant/area to keep clones until I have room in my main tent, also because I’d like to consistently find out if my standard seed plants in the tent are m/f.
My logic on the latter is that if it takes 60 days to fill a tent half full from 4 plants, and I have to take 2 males out back old yeller style, it would be most efficient to veg the two girls out to fill the whole tent
Anyway, my current plan is rapid rooters plugs in small solo cup style shot glasses inside an empty 10 gal aquarium I have a sheet of plastic over to maintain humidity in a part of the house with both east, south, and west facing windows within a yard of each other (and a little 25w bar LED)
Is this the best way to go?
I also have some questions on cloning protocols in general. I see some guides mentioning sticking it in water immediately to prevent air bubbles, and other guides casually holding it out after making the cut for long enough to manicure the cutting to perfection. How important is the “get it in water immediately” thing and how long/deep should it be submersed before I begin trimming it/stripping the bottom/clonexing it?
There are tons of different ways to clone; I prefer using rockwool cubes and rooting horomone powder. I can elaborate more if you’re interested, but either way you’re going to want to practice cloning your plants so you have backups when you find a really special one. You can also get some cheap cloning practice and try different methods with herbs from the grocery store like green onions.
Getting your cut in water fairly quickly is important, but it doesn’t have to be immediately by any stretch. I usually trim the lower fan leaves and then leave my cuttings sitting in 2-3" of pure water for a day or two before applying rooting horomone powder and sticking them in rockwool cubes.
Some plants will re-veg after flowering and you can clone them at that point, but it’s a coinflip and won’t work everytime.
Those look very healthy too bad you lost them.
outdoors is fun and in the sw we have the most sun and good weather until mid November for sativas.
I took solar panels off jun 26th and all my half bastard strains flowered so no need for full autos down there either.
I use buckets from Lowes and wrap my 1, 3, and 5 gallons with electrical tape to block out the light. I’m sure there are better methods/materials out there, but it’s super cheap and always worked like a charm for me
So here I am, about two weeks later.
I feel like lots more time has gone by than actually has
I’m more making this post for myself to look back on, but I believe the two in back to be female, whereas the two up front I believe to be males.
Reasoning - I have topped each plant once, on the back right one (pictured individually) I have defoliated two fan leaves.
I have 5 baby colas coming out of that one, going very strong and equally so, with a sixth falling behind
The one in the back left I topped for the first time today.
The two in front dont show very much momentum on their growth towards any branches besides the front ones
Despite my prediction I’ll try to allow each plant to occupy one 3x3 quadrant under the trellis, how long do you guys think it’ll take till I’m flipping to flower?
Today (post defoliation)
I didn’t read up on any specific defoliation technique or style I just cut off fan leaves that were either unhealthy or blocking light from new nodes. I kinda did that on intuition. Did I mess up?
Thanks gpaw. Would you recommend a gradual titration of about 20% down of veg nutes and up flower nutes every day for 5 days, or just immediately onto blooms
A quick update though.
I was really worried about these yellow tops for a little since i upped the light intensity at the 12/12 change and concerned about possible nutrient issues, but a friend on discord said this is normal.
I guess growing you learn something new every day, huh?
The stretch is actually jaw dropping with growth speeds
