Saving the Nigerian Silk!🌍

:star2: Embarking on an Extraordinary Journey: Saving the Nigerian Silk! :earth_africa:

Today, I’m thrilled to share a project that’s close to my heart. I’ve decided to embark on a mission to rediscover, protect, and celebrate a true agricultural treasure: the Nigerian Silk, a historic cannabis variety deeply rooted in Nigeria’s culture and biodiversity.

:mantelpiece_clock: A Fascinating Story
In the 1980s, the legendary breeder Nevil Schoenmakers, known as a pioneer in modern cannabis genetics, selected unique plants from seeds collected in Nigeria. The traits of these African landraces, with their distinct genetic profiles, have influenced many hybrids we know today.

This connection between local tradition and global innovation reminds us of the importance of preserving and honoring the genetic heritage of unique varieties like the Nigerian Silk.

:rocket: What’s the Plan?

Collaborate with local communities and researchers to trace the origins of this variety.
Preserve seeds and cultivate them in controlled environments to protect their purity.
Share its story and value through a documentary and awareness initiatives.
:bulb: A Project That Bridges Science, Culture, and Community
My goal isn’t just to save a plant; it’s to build bridges between the past and the future, between tradition and innovation, and among people who share a passion for sustainability and biodiversity.

:link: Soon, I’ll be launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds and engage anyone who wants to make a difference. Stay tuned—every bit of support, advice, or encouragement means the world to me!

:seedling: Together, we can protect our agricultural and cultural heritage.
If you’re curious to learn more or want to get involved, feel free to reach out. I’d love to share more about this exciting project.

Special thanks to Dwight Diotte who piqued my curiosity with his photographic memories and knowledge of Nevil Schoemaker’s research.

:earth_africa: Preparations Underway for the Nigerian Silk Project

We are making significant progress in preparing for our journey to Delta State, Nigeria, where our field research will begin to preserve the indigenous cannabis variety known as Nigerian Silk.

This project is not just about biodiversity but also about connecting with local communities and academic institutions. We have initiated contact with some Nigerian universities to establish scientific collaborations that will help us analyze and document the genetic characteristics of this ancient variety. Their expertise will be critical to the success of our initiative.

:pushpin: Geopolitical and Local Challenges
The journey comes with its complexities: current geopolitical and social conditions in Nigeria demand careful planning and great sensitivity toward local realities. Collaborating with local experts and building trust with the communities in the region will be key to ensuring the project’s safety and effectiveness.

:sparkles: Our Mission
This journey is more than just scientific research—it is an opportunity to celebrate and protect Nigeria’s genetic and cultural heritage. We are excited to take on this challenge, fully aware of the value of what we aim to preserve.
