Science Discussion Thread

I can tell that a lot of OGers like science. Let’s try a thread oriented towards scientific topics. Include anything you want. You can comment or link to sources if you want.

Keep it non-political. Be kind to your fellow posters.

Science requires debate; therefore, healthy debate is encouraged on this thread.

Fringe science topics are welcome too. Let’s expand the current scientific paradigm!

Don’t forget humor!

I love connections with James Burke. He did three versions of the series.

Here’s a link to a trailer:

He’s also known for the most well timed intro in the history of humanity:

This is a science project i have wanted to try for a long time. Getting say an IV bag and filling it with the proper sugar water cause thats what the roots make for the plant and inject that IV into the main stem into the phloem tubes. Would be interesting to see if you can boost the growth, if the plant doesn’t have to work as hard for nutritional uptake.

That’s awesome! You’re a real mad scientist on this issue. I bet you could get a IV bag on Amazon.

Would you grow another untreated plant as a control?

A little methane goes a long way.

send me your address and i’ll send you what you need. empty iv bag (after i dump the ringer solution out unless you want that also), tube to connect it, and the iv stick part. i have some left over from my combat lifesaver bag that i had when i got out in '04 and all the fluid is expired and i most likely won’t be needing them any longer. you should be able to make the bag refillable without too much effort.

Yeah you would have to have same clones from the same mother, same grow medium, same nutrients along the way only difference would be the injection to see if the IV supplements the work that the roots do. Or adds to the nutrition al value.

It’s a really neat idea. It could also be used to nurse sick plants. You’d probably want a fairly small gauge needle, I guess.

There is a YouTube channel for space nerds I found the other week, some of it’s a bit simplified but it’s good to fall asleep to
