As Tom Cruise (Maverick) said in the movie Top Gun - “I feel the need. The need for seed!” or something like that, I was a little high at the time! Lol!
So here is my setup so far…
What I call a tent, 1200w LED grow light I got for a steal as it was on clearance and they aren’t going to sell them anymore where I got it. Not sure why but I’ll take it! A couple crappy fans, one only has hi low and off, the other at least has 5 speeds. A little humidifier and a humidity and temperature monitor.
I’m using Promix Premium Organic for vegetable as my medium. Using very light nutrients to start. Have a friend who knows more than me but unfortunately lives a little farther away so can’t be here as much as I would like to keep an I on my grow and insure I’m doing OK. So that’s where you guys can give me a hand!
Ya, I guess that would be something to include! Lol! It is a variety I have 1 Blue Dream, 1 Gorilla Glue, and two that I don’t know for sure as I was gifted them from a friend who had some seeds he spilled so got mixed up. All I know is they will be high indica as he likes the couch lock. He also likes lemon and has run a few different lemon types and said there could be a lemon in there.
My poor Gorilla had a little accident when I had my dog near me while checking on the plants. Got knocked over stem bent and one leaf ripped off, but it’s recovering. I put it a little higher near the lights as you see in the one pic it’s on a upsidedown clay pot. Baby Gorilla attacked by Bulldog! - damaged seedling :( - #10 by TheShowMeHomie Hoping that might help it catch up as it is stunted compared to the others. Otherwise I might keep them in veg a couple days longer to allow it to catch up some. Depends on how they will be looking.
The dog was suppose to protect the plants!
I have one seed right now that I know is lemon kush but haven’t germinated it yet. I am staying with the 4 at a time for the legal side of things here in Canada. Having fun so far!
Oh, I forgot to mention the pic that is all blue is of a little led strip light I got just to add to the main one. It switches from blue and red or both.
You are using the same ProMix as I do. I now use it as a component for my ‘super soil’.
You are off to a great start @Scorpio . There are a lot of great folks here to answer questions and advise you.
Thanks! Yes, Everyone has been very friendly and helpful. I am lucky I stumbled upon this site. I was recommended the Promix by my friend. Would love the Kryptonite. Heard good things about it. It is a little expensive and I would have to have it shipped on top of that. Maybe in the future if I have some extra cash on hand I will try it out.
I have only used nutrients once when I first re-potted the seedlings into the bigger container. I just made the hole in the new container approximately the size of my seedling container and slid them right in after cutting the bottom off the seedling containers! Lol! Less work for me! I was told they would have used up a lot of the nutrients in the original container which are still where the roots are so it would help with the transition. I only used half of the already light nutrients (5-5-5). So yeah, they should be good for a while once the roots hit the new soil in the larger containers. I will see how they are looking. First grow so not sure how long those nutrients will last. Also was possibly leaving in veg to let the little stunted one catch up if needed. Will have to watch and see what they look like. I plan to try a little bending and stuff so should be fun!
It is pretty ‘mellow’ as is. You can trust freshly popped beans going into this (I use the jiffy pucks & plant directly). And you can’t beat the price, almost half compared to ProMix BX… and free fungus gnats in every bag!
I use the layered soil structure The Rev described in his book True Living Organics (hot stuff on the bottom).
I veg bigger than most so I start adding Wegener’s 8-6-6 at half strength about week 3 (about once a week). That’s kind of a ‘crutch’ because I haven’t ‘fine tuned’ my super soil recipe to the point I don’t need to add anything.
No, I am recycling! Lol! They are 2L plastic pop bottles. Some green some clear. I just cut the tops off and drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. Even recycled a couple of the tops as they fit perfectly as a funnel for adding oil and coolant in my car!
Oh cool, thought it was some newfangled tech LOL. Most guys will use opaque containers when vegging to keep the roots from dead ending in light. I don’t know myself…but most guys use a clear cup inside a solid cup to prevent root stunting without losing the ability to see the root growth, which obviously helps to time transplants among other benefits. Lets you be an impatient ‘check my plants every 10 mins’ grower without shocking to poor girl from constant agitation. Like ‘give her some privacy to show her dirty bits’ cause she might get self concious being oogled by some pot smoking old perv looking for (weed) porn pics. LOL
Learn the 2 phrases (acronyms) KISS and LITFA from forums here and look who uses them…they are the druids of OG. They taught me how to properly join booksmart technology and proven experience to make cannabis growing a living, learning, loving journey. In other words, keep learning from OG mentors and you can grow BOMB dope dude! Befriend, and contribute to the community and have access to some genetics that’ll blow yer mind. Cheers!
Thanks for the info about the roots. I will have to cover the outside of these with something removable as I do like to peek at them! Lol! Seriously though, being new to indoor growing (I do a vegetable garden outside) I like the clear better than the green as I can actually see how wet the soil is and it makes watering much easier. I can see with the green but a bit harder than the clear. I like not having to stick my finger in the soil and risk accidentally breaking some roots.
I also ordered some of the black fabric pots which I will be putting them into as their final container. They are suppose to help get more air in to the roots. They were just cheap ones on Amazon. They have different sizes as well.
Sorry, I can’t find the link to the ones I got but just type fabric planting pots in the search and I’m sure you’ll see a bunch.
There you go! excellent reason to use whats at hand. Yep I have done fabric pots, aware of the air pruning benefits. Usually do one outside in a 15 gal. on the porch. They are great, but for me, I had a difficult time getting used to using more water (I hand water) and always building up algae on the sides as well as much dirtier (and larger) drip trays to deal with. Thats just me. At my age, I think THC is in my DNA but I’m still really very much a noob grower.
its more that you get green algae growth with clear or translucent containers, @Scorpio yogurt containers with the outside of them foiled works better than bottles if going the recycled route, cause the slight cone shape allows you to pull the whole root plug out to take a look and put it back in where as bottles you cant do that. Or easily i should say, as depends on the bottle.
