Searching for BOG Sour Strawberry (R)

Hello everyone, I am a BOG collector… Been looking for BOG’s Sour Strawberry Regular seeds for a couple of years now in order to do my own strain preservation…if anyone has any, I am willing to buy. I would like to help keep the lineage going. Trying to find these seeds for a very long time but have had no luck finding a source. Maybe seasoned members like @CADMAN @JohnnyPotseed or anyone else from the BOG Sour Strawberry Preservation thread have some regular seeds of this variety or can guide me to someone who does. Thank you all kindly

Hi and welcome to OverGrow! Sorry to say, I don’t have straight BOG Sour Strawberry. I do have a cross of em, but not stand-alone. Someone else might help in that.

lol @ ‘dour’ typos-r-me, I meant Sour of course!

@Grimley I would love to post the strain preservation journey. I hope to save this strain that seems to be so increasingly rare…I have only come across crosses of it and I hope to turns things around if I can find any SSK seeds. Hopefully I can find some regular ones for the full span of phenotypes possible. Willing to buy from multiple people for genetic diversity. I will be using a 4x8 tent for the S1 seed run and I have two rooms in the basement ready to go!

Welcome to OG @IcyCalyx . I myself have been on a journey to do seed increases on all of BOG’s strains since original stock is rapidly disappearing. I have completed runs on Sour Bubble, Sour Grape, LSD, Sweet and Sour Cindy, Blue Moon Rocks, Blue Kush and BOGBubble so far. Sour Blutooth is next up on the grow list. I do have a limited amount of Sour Strawberry in my fridge but unfortunately I can’t part with them as they are slated for a seed increase. Best of luck with your journey, there are SSK seeds floating around out there so hopefully you come across some. :v:

Totally understandable…and I am with you on that mission. I will be patiently waiting for your new SSK seeds to come in if you are willing to sell a few when your numbers increase.

I’m interested in the Blue Moon Rocks and BOG Bubble if you have ample supply.

I have everything except for Bogglegum, Grape Punch, Blue Moonrocks, BOG Bubble, Sour Strawberry, Sweet and Sour Cindy, and Sour LSD. The latter two I could recreate with the parents but am also interested in originals. If anyone knows whoever may have the ones I am missing, I am willing to make a deal.

Howdy @DougDawson, are the originals really rapidly disappearing? I don’t think so. I know that a handful of varieties have gone out of stock from BOG’s most recent authorized retailer at Seeds Here Now, and some have remained out of stock, but the varieties that are still in stock seem to have been continually restocked time and time again for years since his passing, BOGBubble included.

Although I’ve only seen the Sour Strawberry restocked once at Seeds Here Now since BOG’s passing and it quickly sold out. In addition to that, I’ve only seen one or two packs of the Sour Strawberry offered for sale via their auctions to my knowledge. And they haven’t regularly been doing auctions recently to my knowledge so that’s kind of a bummer, but when they were happening more regularly I was able to get some amazing genetics through that auction platform for absolutely incredible bargains. I was mostly going after DJ Short genetics in those auctions though.

Like many breeders and seed makers, I think BOG had created and amassed a massive horde of genuine BOG made seeds during his life’s work with his BOG seeds brand. I say this specifically because he was quite vocal about wanting to leave his genuine BOG made seed stocks from his personal selections to his family as part of his legacy and as a means for them to make some money and for him to continue to be able to provide for his loved ones in the event of his passing. Or in BOG’s case, possibly getting beamed up by aliens. So I think there are still large reserves of original BOG work out there still to be released.

Last time I checked a few weeks or a month or so ago I thought I remembered seeing BOGBubble in stock but it’s currently showing out of stock having just checked what’s still available of genuine BOG made genetics still available at Seeds Here Now. I imagine they will get restocked again with more originals eventually because the BOGBubble specifically seems to be one of the BOG varieties I remember seeing restocked the most at Seeds Here Now since his passing.

@IcyCalyx, the Sour Strawberry has been a hard one to find for a few years now, pretty much elusive in terms of originals, but I’m still hopeful that Seeds Here Now will get some more from Jim Jr. again and that they will be restocked at some point in the future but it might not happen. BOG seemed to work things, his lines, in a sort of rotation so sometimes some select varieties would go out of stock until he got around to making more. Many varieties hardly if ever went out of stock when purchasing directly from BOG though so that’s what makes me think some lines have substantially more available stock still to be released through his heirs. The last time I ordered direct was just a few months before his passing and there were only 2 or 3 varieties on his seeds list that he emailed to me upon my request that were listed as our of stock, Blue Moon Rocks being one of them and unfortunately that’s also one of the varieties at Seeds Here Now that I haven’t seen a restock for once. It’s definitely one of his best works and one of the most coveted BOG lines, especially considering how much I enjoy Blueberry types and of course with the rarity of the Micanopy Moonbeam being incorporated into those genetics it makes it especially desirable.

As for the BOG varieties that you’re still looking to collect and add to your collection, many original BOG made works are currently showing as in stock and available for purchase at Seeds Here Now, but unfortunately none on your list are showing as currently available. I truly hope you’re able to source some originals with respect to your list of BOG genetics that you’d still like to acquire.

Specifically the following BOG made BOG varieties are still available at Seeds Here Now for others who may be interested in original BOG work and who may also be reading this thread:

  • Sour Blu Tooth
  • Sour Lifesaver
  • LSD
  • Sour Grape
  • Sour Bubble
  • Sour Boggle
  • Sweet Cindy

Granted it seems that you’ve already got those and are looking for others that are currently showing as our of stock, but I’ve personally seen the Grape Punch get restocked at SHN since BOG’s passing, and when it was that’s when I was able to order mine. As mentioned before I’ve also seen Sour Strawberry restocked, albeit not regularly. I’ve seen BOGBubble restocked more than once so I think you have a good chance at still sourcing some originals with a future restock at Seeds Here Now. I forget if I’ve seen the Sour LSD restocked but I think it has been, as I’m pretty sure that’s where I sourced mine from after BOG’s passing. Not on your list but Blue Kush has been restocked with originals on more than one occasion that I remember. Sweet and Sour Cindy, Bogglegum, and Lifestar to my recollection have all been offered in small amounts through the Seeds Here Now auctions as well but I don’t remember seeing them being restocked and available for retail purchase at Seeds Here Now since BOG’s passing. Bogglegum may have been.

My best advice would be to sign up for email alerts and notifications on the Seeds Here Now website for the specific varieties that you’re interested in. In the event of a restock you will get a prompt email notification. That’s how I was able to get a handful of BOG originals. I vividly remember getting a notification on my phone while driving down the road when Sour Bubble and a few others were restocked, I immediately pulled over and placed an order. I think the email notification regarding restocks is incredibly useful for that.

For a while Sour Bubble was like that, by that I mean it was rarely in stock after BOG’s passing but it eventually got restocked more than once and has currently still shown as being in stock regularly for some time now. Hopefully it will be similar for other varieties that are in your want to collect list that are currently unavailable.

BOG was and still is a legend. One of the real ones in this industry. BOG, you continue to live on in our hearts and minds. In our stories. Massive respect to BOG for his contributions to the online community and for the contributions of his Bubblegum work. Massive respect to his passion for the plants, his passion for members of the community, and the passion for his family. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. Many blessings and much love

Howdy @Beau, that’s awesome! I’m stoked for you. As your comment shows with your recent purchase, and as you say, as recently as just a few months ago Seeds Here Now did in fact have two of the varieties still available for purchase that are on @IcyCalyx’s list. Notably BOGBubble and Sour Grape. And they’re originals too! Which I’m a huge advocate of supporting the originators and collecting originals whenever possible. Great of you to share your recent seed acquisition as I think it will be helpful for many to see. That’s a massive addition to ones seed collection, actual BOG made originals. They’re surely one of a kind!

BOG, in my opinion, had a special connection with the plants and with his work. With life. And it showed in his seeds based on his artistic and down right one of a kind personal selections. With his manifestations. He knew best how to select plants for his his work, because it was his work. They were his goals. To me if they’re not made by BOG they’re not BOG seeds.

The following comment touches on something he shared during his brief time here on the new iteration of Overgrow, he was a believer in Redfield Synchronicity. I look at that as BOG seeds being part of BOG, and without BOG they’re just seeds. Originals are where it’s at, especially with respect to BOG’s work:

Many blessings and much love

Upon BOGs passing there were no parent plants left as they had all been lost when BOG moved in with Jim Jr. So the restocks are coming from seeds left to Jim Jr. Since those are the only original seeds remaining other than in peoples personal stashes, and since that supply isn’t never ending, yes, the originals are rapidly disappearing.

I ended up with a extra pack of Sweet and Sour Cindy that DD reproduced. I’d be willing to trade if you would like.

My time here on OG has formed a deep appreciation for BOG that I didn’t previously have as I wasn’t exposed to that area of cannabis until recently. Are the key differences between the original seed runs and the modern runs that noteworthy?

Jim jr took over the remaining inventory.
James Bean was a professional colleague of BOG who runs seedsherenow and most likely has a hand in feeding Jim Jr BOG methodologies if he didn’t already know.

@SunGrown I would pay cash for it if you would like. I don’t have any extras of the BOG originals other than LSD. Can trade a pack of LSD or buy it cash

Howdy @DougDawson, I guess it’s all relative. Since BOG’s passing many varieties are still available and during that same time I’ve seen a handful of varieties from other breeders, limited releases and such, that have come and gone out of stock indefinitely. So comparatively, and from what I’ve been observing in terms of restocks and current availability, I don’t agree with your assessment that the remaining original BOG made seeds stocks are rapidly dwindling. It’s inevitable sure, but I don’t see it happening across the board in the same way as you describe it. A member here just a few comments above posted up a great haul of BOG originals from Seeds Here Now acquired just a few months ago and it’s been years already since BOG passed.

A few big mason jars of seeds is enough for hundreds and thousands of packs. Would you say that your unselected open pollination Doug made reproductions based on BOG’s work are also rapidly disappearing? I don’t recall you mentioning keeping parents yourself so I think it’s a good barometer of perspective in terms of a given volume of seeds and how rapidly or not something is said to be dwindling.

You yourself said that for your unselected open pollination Doug made Blue Kush based on BOG’s work netted approximately 32,000 seeds. If my math is still mathing that’s approximately just shy of 2,500 packs of 13 count seeds. As BOG originals from Seeds Here Now are advertised as containing 13 seeds per pack. Considering BOG has worked many of these lines for decades, I’d imagine he had a multitude of varying generations of abundant seed stocks saved. Many jars full of seeds. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen pictures highlighting that but I could be misremembering. Possibly in the now hidden to public view BOG archives over at Icmag?

Granted, some lines may have been dwindling and perhaps even not available anymore but the ones we have been seeing continually restocked time and time again since his passing seem to be pretty abundant and plentiful. Nothing that I’ve noticed would suggest that they’re rapidly dwindling.

You’re giving your unselected open pollination Blue Kush away, and I’d imagine it will take a lot of effort to give away 2,500 packs of seeds. Considering the originals from BOG cost retail prices because of there inherent genuineness, because they’re actually from genuine BOG made selections, I think it will take even longer for a similar amount of seeds to dwindle when they’re being sold compared to when they’re being given away as the resource allocation is vastly different between the two scenarios. So whatever has been getting restocked often I think are quite plentiful still, and even stuff that hasn’t been restocked often or even restocked yet at all may still very well be plentiful but just hasn’t yet made it’s way to the retail shop at Seeds Here Now.

I can’t imagine that your Blue Kush stocks (32000 seeds) are dwindling rapidly, although I could be mistaken. I’m curious, do you have an estimate with respect to how many Blue Kush seeds you think you have left to put it in perspective for me and others reading?

Also you mentioned netting approximately 20,000 seeds from your Doug made unselected open pollination of Sweet and Sour Cindy based on BOG work. That’s approximately 1,500 seed packs at 13 seeds per pack. Granted that’s almost half of what you got compared to the Blue Kush, but even still I can’t imagine those are dwindling rapidly either. But again, I could be mistaken and maybe you’re almost out already. The Blue Moon Rocks you made you said you netted approximately 8700 seeds. That’s approximately 669 packs at 13 seeds per pack. I could see those dwindling sooner than others due to the figures but even still, 669 packs is considerable amount of seeds.

To put it in perspective, 669 packs at $100 per retail pack would require nearly $70,000 of retail purchases to clear that amount of seed stock off retail shelves.

1,500 packs would require $150,000 and 2,500 packs would require a quarter of million dollars ($250,000) to clear the inventory. I really don’t think they’re selling that volume of BOG genetics through Seeds Here Now but I could be mistaken. It would actually be pretty great if they are considering that would all be helpful for BOG’s family. It’s a big reason why I champion for seeking the originals whenever possible, and for advocating for that when it doesn’t seem many others do, because BOG meant so much to the community, still means a lot to many, and I think he deserves that respect and the continual mention of where to source his original work when that’s a viable option for those seeking to add BOG genetics to their collection.

I think he would be proud of the community showing their support that way. Advocating and supporting the legacy he desired to leave his family. If I recall, Seeds Here Now was able to raise approximately $40,000 for the BOG family after his passing where they received the full amount of monies raised, and many of those packs were sold for a lot higher than retail prices. I like to think that members of the community here were showing support for BOG and his family as much as they were trying to score packs of his genetics. We as a community have great strength in our collective efforts, especially when those are in need. The community has come together on many occasions in such ways. It’s actually quite beautiful and endearing. It’s refreshing and has that restored faith in humanity type of feeling, in my opinion.

BOG was always so kind and gracious, and he mentioned that he didn’t hold any stipulations to those who purchase his seeds other than not wanting them to be sold under the same name that’s affiliated with his originals. He said he didn’t mind others making F gens and giving them away and such, but I don’t think he meant that if it came at the cost of foregoing or shunning his originals and the legacy he mentioned wanting to leave to his wife and son in terms of his original BOG made seed stocks which represent a significant part of his life’s work with respect to his breeding efforts and building his BOG brand.

So I think it’s important to showcase those originals still being available whenever possible, especially to those who are interested in BOG seeds because eventually they will have dwindled and original BOG made seeds won’t be available anymore but it doesn’t seem like that point has arrived yet considering much of his work has been restocked more than once at Seeds Here Now and many of his lines are still currently in stock. But they are living organisms and they won’t live forever, so I champion for those seeking BOG genetics to go for those originals whenever possible because there are no substitutes in that regard. They truly are one of a kind, because BOG was one of a kind. Then again, aren’t we all one of a kind, yourself and myself included. Many blessings and much love
