Seychelles Seed Run --- Any thoughts welcome

Hey OG gromies, hope your spring is bloomin :palm_tree:

Wanted to reach out to see if there is a respected grower / landrace enthusiast who would be interested in doing a seed run of a rare and potentially novel strain

Backstory is that a good friend of mine went to the Seychelles not long ago to visit family and was able to bring back some seeds sourced from the local herb

It was originally 16 beans. I gave 5 to a good friend, who wasn’t ready for a super long-flowering sativa and was only able to hybridize it, but not preserve it

So I have 11 beans left of this Seychelles strain, which could likely be a landrace (though not one I have heard of), and I would hate to blow it by losing the genetics

Wanted to post something in this section to see if there’s anyone into exploring and/or preserving landraces who might be willing to grow it out + share the genetics

I’m currently in a situation which prevents me from growing, or I’d probably just grow this out myself, but I’ve only grown outs and definitely don’t live in the right latitude

And I know that sending seeds off carries a risk as well, but I’ve given this a lot of thought and would love to benefit others with something potentially amazing, like herb can be

If you know anyone here who would be down to explore some rare genetics and help produce and share more seeds of a variety unavailable on the market, let me know!

Hope to share and potentially discover something fresh and amazing

I’m over in Hawai’i, what’s some backstory and info on the Seychelles strain??

Hey @Sodapop, thanks for asking. As far as the beans, I really don’t have much detail other than my buddy was able to score something local from out there, and it wasn’t grown to the highest quality. And my buddy works in herb so he is pretty educated about strains, etc.

As far as the genetics, I could find literally nothing about Seychelles herb. And the closest thing was Mangu-Carot from Reunion, which isn’t actually too close as the bird flies. Though also French-colonized, Reunion seems to be associated with different trade routes.

One other note related to the genetics is that since Seychelles doesn’t have much of developed cannabis market (nor developed growing practices, from what my buddy was saying) I am quite hopeful that the genetics haven’t been onshored from NL or the US. And when my other friend grew it out last season, it was definitely long-flowering

Interestingly, though it is an African island, Seychelles has some Indian influence in terms of the cuisine, and I’m hopeful the strain is significantly different from east African types which @Kidete seems to be expert in. (Tagging you in case you’d like to weigh in!)

Btw aloha and pardon the delayed response, had some unexpected things come up

Thanks for tagging me.

I smoked the Mangu Carrot in December 2023 but it’s so rare that I haven’t seen it since. You’re also right about Seychelles having a small cannabis market

I would do it, with pleasure, if you can’t find anyone else, I am in USA and could do a seed increase indoors.

I have fallen in love with the album Seychelles by Takanaka, and from there did some studying up on the place. Maybe it is a sign.

All of Me is my personal favorite but man so rare to see a Takanaka reference in the wild!!

Yesss!! All of Me is a compilation, so it shares a couple of tracks with Seychelles. I love that guy and his music so much. He is like if my happy place were a person. Right on @Sodapop!

Dude that album is so good! What a great vibe, thanks for sharing with OG

And I’d be down to send beans your way, if you’re ready for a long flowering period haha

Would be super cool if you documented the process, should be a learning experience

Feel free to DM me and we can go from there :+1:

Happy you found someone so quickly man! @BasementGardens you’re awesome, Takanaka truly is the man lol I love watching their live shows and seeing his legendary guitar collection.

Is it really so wrong to have someone’s greatest hits album as a favorite album? :joy:

I mean, how could it be? It is the hits, everyone likes hits. The greatest ones, even.

That said, how is ESP on there but not Nights? Come on!!

I have DMd ya, @setgoals, cheers.

Tbh that’s a great question because they both could’ve been, should’ve been even. In a way I can even see where nights fits in somewhere between Izu Amanatsu and Tropic Birds. They were selected albums so I guess that would be a question for Takanaka-san himself maybe he thought the fun upbeat vocals of ESP fit right where it needed to be between Mambo no. 5 and Star Wars Samba to keep listeners engaged.

Hopped in here after seeing the word ā€˜Seychelles’, so excited to see other Takanaka growmie fans!!! Yes!!! His Seychelles album, Takanaka, An Insatiable High, especially Saudade/Alone/Can I Sing?, so good and full of life. Would love to see him in concert one day.

@halo56 heck yeah, I just learned of him last year, and have since started slowly going through everything from the beginning. And am currently in the Suadade and Alone era. I love everything so far, so very much. It is wild how closely his albums were released, they all sound like they took years to record.

You know, @Sodapop, the way I got into him, I started with album 1 and went in order, so when I got to that one, I was like, I already know these. What I hadn’t considered until just now, is the sequencing. I am going to listen to that more, and pay attention to that.

Currently spinning

If anyone is wondering, @setgoals has been kind enough to let me run them. Does anyone have any advice for me, for a longer-flowering plant? Just feed like usual and make adjustments? I haven’t grown anything past 11 weeks or so, and those fade pretty hard!

You might poke around some of the landrace topics if you haven’t? I think some of those are really long. I saw someone getting ready to run a long one, and I can’t remember who. if I do, I will ping you.

Pure sativa landraces are typically really light feeders. I would advise using 25-50% or less of recmd dose so as not to burn them, @Upstate is a very experienced with these lines and would be a good resource to check in with on specific questions

Tropical sativas are definitely prime real estate for a good comprehensive soil mix, light top dressing, and mostly plain waterings.

I’ve also had great experience with water only throughout the grow

Did you get a pack of my Kona Gold? I’d love to have a girl pollinated by a Seychelles if you did
