i’m out fellas. having used the unmoderated discourse forum and this way too-heavily moderated discourse forum, i can tell you that this one is mush friendlier and easier on the intellect but there is such a thing as too much moderation. i think we have reached that point now, maybe a month ago or so. i will still stop and look at some of the posts but will not be posting anything unless someone @s me. if anyone wants to get in touch send a dm and i’ll get the email. there are a few of you i’d like to meet in real life when i travel and will hit you up in dm beforehand. enjoy the forum and the break from me running my trap. should be a little quieter anyway.

Regardless of what you may think, I will miss your unique input and perspective.
Moderation is difficult for me because I really detest censorship, but sometimes it just needs to be done for the health of the site, long term.

You’re kind on the hardiness of the task. There is also a momentum of neutrality to show, the partiality we all have to refrain, training diplomacy, no contradicting interests … if any i’m valuing it (because i’m still unable to do this) without expecting perfect semi-gods that are hitting always 100% accurate.

I like overgrow don’t get me wrong but the no politics thing in today’s world is ridiculous bc just look around at what’s going on… that’s why reddit will always be my home base and yeah it has plenty of warts but not in that regard. Obviously nobody wants to hear long winded political debates but simple remarks and observations should be allowed especially bc cannabis is certainly a hot button issue… being in the deep south a certain side of the aisle has done everything in its power to demonize and prevent progress in the name of evil marijuana

I will say that I’ve been on a few weed sites and MOST of the mods on those sites act like they are god and it’s really annoying. this site however IMO is not like that. I think they do a commendable job here.

In the natural progression of any online forum there comes a moment that forum is best consumed in a ‘read only’ format.
There will always be someplace new for content creating with less onerous moderating for those who want it.

Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with talking about politics. The primary underlying issue with allowing political discussions is how the expression of any sort of opinion on a public forum is taken as a personal and directed insult by a/some readers, who then feel a necessity to ridicule and attack the discussers of those opinions. Once any discussion degrades in that manner, it is better to just close up that topic than to allow it to degrade any further.

Regarding the above, this quote by Orwell is pertinent:

I get it that OG doesn’t want to allow political or controversial posts, to reduce meanness and acrimony, but it’s just like Orwell says, that acrimony is what’s causing a lack of liberty. In the USSR, people rarely even dared to whisper anything criticizing their government. And so it goes…
dammit, sfzombie13. it seems all the good guys are leaving. I get what you mean, maybe i should as well, cuz i wanna be a good guy too. Problem is, there’s still a lotta good guys in here. they just need to be moderated more. (is there a tongue in cheek emoji?)

I hope the OP finds peace, where ever they decide to go.
I found many of your POV pretty similar to my own personal feelings about those same ideas.
Since I found OverGrow back in 1999, I’ve seen both sides of this debate, sites being free to say ever you damn well please, just do it in the Shark Tank.
But 1’s and 0’s, do not always follow the rules, and many regular threads went to flames, from Shark Tank brawling spilling into the street’s so to speak.
Not that I liked it, maybe do not always agree, this however is a cannabis growing forum.
They openly state, no politics, so for myself, I comply, rearrange my outlook, and focus on growing cannabis, and related ways to growing it.
I hope you find peace Sfzombie13, I really do.
I find meditation far superior to finding peace, then brawling about political antics, generated by uber wealthy, earthlings.

i had a few @s on this thread and saw a few things that need cleared up. first off, i’m not mad about any of it, nor do i feel that anything has been violated and everything has been done well within the limits of the tos that i agreed to when i signed up and continued using the forum.
second, thanx to all for the kind words and thoughts.
third, thanx to @LemonadeJoe, @Calyxander, and all the rest of team overgrow. it’s a hell of a job and one that is very much needed and thankless at the same time. you folks are doing great at what you’re doing, keep up the good work in maintaining one of the last bastions of courtesy and good manners on the internet.
third, i do think the site could use a little leeway in the moderation but it would probably not go so well in the long term.
fourth, for the record, i’m doing better mentally than probably ever since maybe 8 or 9 years old.
if anyone ever gets to mid-wv and wants to meet up, hit me up on dm and give it a day since i only browse morning and evening unless i’m working remotely. fair warning though, i look a touch different in real life than my avatar, and since it’s real life, it’s moderated but not very closely sometimes. the mods around here are real assholes. thschüss!
