No up against the sides. Another benefit of airpots is the sides will hold up material so I just kept packing the sides and moving into the center.
@Slick1 knows the airpot game. If you DON’T do this you’ll find out how airy shit gets when you start hard watering. Compaction is never a problem in an airpot unless you’re using straight up DIRT.
Rofl.
You’ve got me nervous here. I even thought to myself “should I be using those balls?” when doing it. I just ordered some so the other pot will have them. Maybe I can do a little surgery on it and add some to the existing pot.
I don’t know about a Sinkhole in KC, Mo, but I do know there a giant STINKhole on Uranus. Hawhaw.
I did wake up farting today so I can’t argue…
The funny thing about hydroton? Ya don’t need much. But ya gotta buy that bag. Just for a cup or two…
I tried packing the netpots with a soil mix, and gotta say it was a little wetter than I wanted. Soil mix wicks more water than hydroton. I coulda given you a cup of it… If I knew. My bag of hydroton will last me years with my grow style
This is why I use it as a mulch layer for some of my tropical potted plants! My date palm has been dapper-as-fuck since it got a 2 inch layer of clay-bawls on-top making them freeloading weeds have nothing to hold onto… that and no bugs survive and there’s no erosion when watering anymore.
Hydroton also makes for fantastic sling shot ammo when you want to scare but not harm critters fucking around in your yard. Just aim to the side of them and on impact it explodes giving them the same effect of anti-aircraft rounds where it’s the shrapnel doing the job
I’ll have it tomorrow from Amazon fortunately. My ignorance of and reluctance to go hydro is showing though
Funny enough the first ever growing of for me was pure hydro. I did this for years until I felt my results were solid enough to then go soil / soilless and it showed. Running a 4 site RDWC keeping 80L+ of nutrients accurate over 3 months is epic in effort AND results… but then go to planting in anything but and all of a sudden you already know what the fuck you’re doing because in hydro you sometimes only have HOURS to solve the problem.
No buffer = many problems = skills gained solving them = MUCHO GAINS!
Thats a MEAN plant and nobody realizes it till they get stabbed! I had a dwarf date palm as a christmas tree in Cozumel in 2020. First thing people dont realize, Palms CAN have thorns! Second thing they dont realize is that if you get stuck by a date palm thorn, that shit hurts for DAYS.
(jumps on Amazon to look for a decent slingshot) I wonder if I can print one? hmmmmm
Dammit I missed the pole party over here. Lol. I got some new tights they have a few holes in them. But I swear I shave.
I give up. That was some funny sheet.
Just trying to keep it fun in here. You know ol’ @Slick1 All business, never any fun.
You just described why I’ve avoided hydro in a nutshell. Some guys love to be on top of it completely and control every single thing and I much prefer being able to slack completely for awhile and have the soil do the work for me. This grow is me dipping a toe in while still having the soil there to hold my hand. I don’t see me ever going full hydro though.
I have been kind of uptight huh? Maybe it’s time I finally let loose
I got nothing at the moment
Bro the Octopots allows you to LITFA for up to a week and no fuss
I love them for that reason alone
You’re speaking my language!
Add the auto topoff, and there’s an even larger buffer for errors…
@Slick1 I think you need to change your handle now. Slack1 has a nice ring to it
I just came across the pump for automatic watering I never ended up using. I was short on rain rings I believe…
The top off reservoir is cool as shit but I’m limited on room here so it’s not in the cards at the moment.
