Slick1's AUTOpilot Grow

While true i had terrible results with the eXe, I’m inclined to agree with @Nagel420 on failed cause. when I hit them clones they were probable 4-5 ,month old, and had clones taken off of them a couple times. I didn’t think age or size would matter as much as it did, apparently!   :+1:

Just wanted to update that the Aurora Borealis is in an air pot as of last night. I’ll take pictures tomorrow of the rest if I think of it but there’s an issue with everything in the tent. I’m actually a bit concerned about TMV because I’ve been slacking and smoking in the house lately and the timeline coincides. Pretty sure TMV is rare and it could be total coincidence but some of those leaves are hurtin’ whatever it is.

You can get TMV from smoking near the plants?? Shit dude I smoke in the house and my grow area all the time.

ah, what is this? Morning alll! :flushed:

Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus species in the genus Tobamovirus that infects a wide range of plants, especially tobacco and other members of the family Solanaceae.

I think. Good morning. :slightly_smiling_face:

From what I’ve read yes. I think it’s really rare but I’ve always practiced pretty good discipline with it up until recently. Not only smoking around them but I’ll wash my hands before touching them if I’ve smoked recently. I don’t usually smoke in the house but when I did it would only be at night when the grow room door was closed. Recently I’ve been so beat I’ve just been smoking in the house with it open.

Yup. And good morning

Smoking is a tough habit to break, I totally get that. Take a breath and try again, taking it outside is a great step in the right direction. :+1:t2:

I quit smoking cigarettes a year ago Dec 12. However….I flipped to the vape and have only been off of that (with the exception of THC) completely for 2 months now.

Some days I think I’m going out of my mind. :grimacing: After ditching a 20+yr stress habit, then I remember how much $$$ I’m saving, also how much better I do feel. :smirk:

Oh I’m not trying to quit at all, just need to be less complacent about where I smoke

Congrats on quitting though cause it is tough. I’ve quit maybe 3 times in my life with varying trouble and always ended up lighting up again. Last time I quit I didn’t even crave them anymore and was down to like 2 cigs a day just cause I didn’t want them. Was fine without one but worked with guys who smoked and bumming one a day turned into buying a pack within a week.

Heck ya! :flushed:

Bunch doing construction out front of my house, and the temptation is real when I see one of them with a smoke hanging out of their faces. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Alas, I roll :seedling:…so all is well.

Not a 100% reliable source, especially since I just edited it to say this, but Wiki says “TMV can even survive in contaminated tobacco products for many years, so smokers can accidentally transmit it by touch, although not in the smoke itself.” Other search results from university studies back this up, I just didn’t feel like pasting a half dozen links to universities. As long as you weren’t hand-rolling from infected tobacco, they’re probably fine as far as TMV… which, unfortunately, means now you need to figure out what the real problem is with them. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well I’m glad nobody smokes cigarettes in my house. One less thing to worry about. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve read things that suggest just the smoke can transmit it too though. It could definitely be something else (or even a combo) but I watched how I went from no problems when I had discipline about it to instant problems when I didn’t. Again could be timing, correlation not always being causation and all.

For many reasons!

I quit almost 22 years ago. Smoked for 27.

Most of what I read recommended treating infected plants by burning them, so I would hope it doesn’t spread in the smoke… but it’s certainly not going to hurt them if you’re extra careful with smoking either. I usually don’t smoke in the tent either, though that’s more because I want to keep them in the dark about what their future will be if they’re good girls and grow big and strong. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good on you! I’m at between 25-28 years at this point (depending on whether you count smoking a cigarette here and there with a friend or when you were a daily smoker). I figure when I hit 40 in a few short years I should probably wrap it up.

Funny, I did a little research too just now, and one other point to make. Most cigarette tobacco is flue dried. Compared to slow / air drying, its much better at minimizing the spread of TMV. Chances of spreading it after using tobacco products is low.

I just read two articles though that say it can’t be transmitted thru smoke, only thru contact. And evidently it can live on inert surfaces for a while, transmitted like a cold by you touching a surface (doorknob for example) and then someone else touching it.

Also read that a few authors don’t believe cannabis gets TMV, thats its CMV (cucumber) or another mosaic.

Thankfully I haven’t had to deal with it, and this is the first research I have done on it, so more reading in store it seems…

LOL and here I thought I was the only one thinking that. Like, I’ll smoke a bowl or two while working on the girls, and in the back of my head I’m thinking “These poor girls are watching their sister burn at the bowl, hope they don’t realize its their future too!”

35 friggen years… I quit for 3 full months in 2007, then my pops passed, and I broke down and needed the crutch. Haven’t tried again since then because I know I need the right situation to do it again, and I havent been in the right situation :frowning:

I know it’s rare. I don’t believe there’s much you can do about it either so I’d much prefer it was something else that I could fix.

Wouldn’t it be some shit if it got transferred by something like my sunglasses that I touched after handling cigs but the timing worked out right? lol

Nope, you’re not the only one. I’m a little bit crazy too! Who knows, maybe the smell of burning cannabis triggers mature females to herm and everyone just likes to blame it on genetics or light leaks… makes as much sense as anything, clearly the plants have some sort of rudimentary sense perception or they wouldn’t orient their roots by gravity and grow towards the light. Who’s to say that sensing other cannabis plants burning nearby wouldn’t cause them to go herm to try and preserve the species? Stranger things…

Btw, I’ve read no research that backs this up, obvi.

I’ve been smoking tobacco almost as long as I’ve been smoking Ganja! I’ve got full-blown Emphysema in both lungs, but docs tell me that’s from Agent Orange in Nam, ‘peripheral overspray’… anyway about 15 years ago I switched from commercial tobacco to natural/organic tobacco and have a couple rolling machines, 1 hand crank and 1 electric. The docs have put me through the breathing chamber test a couple times and say my lungs are still operating at normal capacity. I smoke around 2&1/2-3 packs a day and never have tried to stop, lol no plan to either, after all these decades!
I’ve smoked in my grow rooms forever with no TMV, I also smoke joints in the rooms since forever with no hermies.

sidenote here… actually I haven’t had a hermie in so long I honestly can’t remember when it did happen. But, I know it’s been many years lol
