Slippy’s Skunk Works

I’m starting a grow diary. This is my second run, so I’m sure there are a lot of things you guys can tell me to improve on. I definitely had some issues last time around, and this run definitely hasn’t gone perfect so far either, but it’s a lot better. Basically, this is the grow diary of someone with less than 6 months of experience.

My setup is this:

  • 1x Vivosun 2’x4’ tent
  • 3x Vivosun VS1000E LED board
  • 2x Vivosun 6" oscillating fan
  • 1x ROSEKM humidifier

And this is what I’m running:

  • Frosted Oranges (NASC $5 seed menu)
  • Gorilla Sherbert (NASC $5 seed menu)
  • Galaxy Fuel (NASC Private Label)
  • “OG Kush” (lmao) (Barney’s Farm)
  • Pineapple Chunk (Barney’s Farm)
  • Black Phoenix x Mimosa F1 (Dirty Bird Genetics)
  • Sugar Cane (In House Genetics)
  • Platinum Jelly (In House Genetics)

I’m probably insane for running 8 different strains in the same tent, and I was probably insane even before that for deciding on 8 pots in a 2’x4’, but I think it’s going alright for my second time around.

Pictures are soon to come. Thanks for reading!

Yeah, thats gonna be pretty tight. Alot more doable with clones, but from seed, gonna pretty crowded.

Pictures here start on December 17th and end today. These got off to a very poor start because I was impatient, and because I had pH issues as well as MAJOR humidity and temperature issues. In the first picture, the two plants all the way on the right are my etiolated clone of the “OG Kush” I ran for my first grow, and my VERY etiolated Pineapple Chunk seedling that I kept as small as I could while I waited for my drying to be done. Only having one tent blows.

By the way, I’m in living soil, which includes all of the recycled soil from my last run, plus some of my own homemade blend (50% peat, 25% perlite, 25% compost/castings). This was all mixed together with Dr. Earth dry amendments and allowed to “cook” in a tub for a couple weeks before transplant. I do 2tbsp per gallon of medium, and top dress every 3 weeks.

For sure, I’m gonna keep it defoliated as best as I can, and it still needs to stretch a bit so I can properly scrog it. I think the stretch will help a lot with keeping the bud sites spread out.

The last picture shows what it’s like right now, lollipopped and defoliated. Today is the first day of 12/12, actually, and I’ll be doing one final lollipopping and defol in a few weeks.

The main issue I’m having is this yellowing on some of the tops, and my Frosted Oranges is kinda doing the clampy, taco leaf thing. I think maybe I’ve just picked them to death with defoliating and I need to learn to keep my hands to myself for longer intervals, but I’m also wondering if it could be magnesium, so I started adding cal mag to the water at 1ml/gallon.

Can you send a picture of the yellowing I cant spot it on the picture?

There’s a bit of tip burn, but I mean the yellowing between the veins. Also, that’s my Frosted Oranges in the bottom middle doing the clamp thing.

With that many in there, prob wouldnt have to worry about trying to scrog them. Prob be better off just trying to get 4-5 stalks for each plant, and let them fill their 1 foot space. Just my opinion. Either way, looking good. Look forward to following your grow.

Yeah, I have a feeling I’ll be chopping quite a few more stalks in a few weeks. I topped them too much to try and keep everything even. Some of these plants grew like crazy, especially the Sugar Cane.

Okay I see what you mean in my opinion its minor if it ain´t worsen.
If you run the exact same soil in every pot I doubt that this is a nutrition issue.
My guess is that it has something to do with watering or fertilization.
PH issue is also very possible i´m not an expert myself tho.

Yeah, I’ve forgotten to pH my water and my tea a few times. I think maybe that’s causing them to look a little funky. I may be overwatering slightly also; I went to Kansas for a few days around Christmas, and they actually looked really nice and healthy when I came back after a few days of no water. I may go longer between waterings. The third picture I posted is from the day I got back.

With living soil your water needs no ph adjustments normally the microbes will regulate that. if your tab water is in a regular range.
I always lift my pots and when they get light I water its a really nice way to check.
less water is better than to much if they drop leaves you can always water but rotting roots can kill a plant quick.

I’ve heard that, but I usually pH to between 6 and 7 anyway. I imagine different microbes operate well at different pH, so I like to vary it a little bit every time while keeping it relatively close to neutral.

Depends on what youre adding it could also be harmful for microbes.

Dry amendments, so I don’t add anything to the water, other than a small amount of cal mag since I was suspicious that it could be magnesium deficiency. All they get is water with 1ml/gal of cal mag and homemade worm tea.

But how are you adjusting you ph then ?

Plants aren’t in bad shape man, nice work!

Since you’re already adding cal-mag, I say why not just grab some simple hydro type nutes and feed your girls… they just look hungry for something.

Admittedly I’ve never done organic, but man it sounds challenging to really be able to safely feed the plants enough, but not too much, using teas etc… then again maybe not, but I know salts are easy lol.

Anyways nice log, I’m going to follow!

I’ve also heard this, I run RO water and ph down to 6.3-6.4… I’m going to try not PHing on one of my veg plants.
