Slippy’s Skunk Works

I usually water 7-10% of my pot size with a potted plant. I use a pump sprayer as well.

I use a pH pen after I’ve added my cal mag or after the tea has been brewed. Right before watering.

Thanks man, I appreciate it!

I’ve got GH Flora series nutes, which I used for my last grow, but I’m holding off on adding anything else until I see what they look like when they’ve bushed back out. You’re right, salts are definitely easy. I kinda liked it when I did it, but people said organic will turn out better so I had to try it. The time saved not mixing up nutes every other day is pretty nice, but I’m definitely missing the amount of control and consistency I had with feeding. Organic is slow and inputs feel laggy. You add something and don’t see whether it’s working or not until a week later, yknow?

They feel laggy because if you are doing organic living soil correctly, you aren’t feeding the plants but rather feeding the microbes, which in-turn feed your plants. You can add things like fish emulsion and seaweed solutions that will act faster to provide nutrients. A compost tea is pretty much just introducing microbes into your soil to help break down existing material in the soil so it’s important to have what the plant already needs available in your soil. This is typically a mix of slow release nutrients in a powdered or granular form such as bone meal, blood meal, kelp meal alfalfa meal, etc. If you do not have sufficient levels of necessary nutrients or your microbes are failing to keep up in the break down of these materials, you need to be using an organic liquid fertilizer that has the proper amounts of nutrients needed for plant growth to quickly boost nutrient levels.

No water again today, and they’re looking much better actually. I might even just go until I see them barely begin to wilt, and from then I’ll base my watering on how long that took.

If you’re having trouble with watering/overwatering you just need to pick up your plants. Pick them up after watering and feel how heavy they are. Then let them dry down and once they feel light, water again. Another way is to stick your finger in the soil. If the top inch is wet don’t water. The idea is to let it get right to the wilt point before watering again. That doesn’t mean you should just let them wilt all the time but getting closer to that point in a soil grow is ideal. You just never want to hit the permanent wilt point obviously.

I started training myself to do this during this grow, but now they’re in the scrog. I can’t really pick any of them up except my Frosted Oranges, so I’m still practicing with that one. I use my finger usually, but I don’t think I’ve been going deep enough, so I’ve been underestimating how moist they still are.

Get a cheap soil moisture meter off Amazon or a local shop if an option!

Are those any good? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

Personally I trust my finger more but I have many years working with plants.

Yeah, I had pretty bad overwatering issues for my first run, and I was able to get my watering dialed in with the finger method. Apparently not dialed in enough, though. Lol

What’s your technique? How deep do you probe?

All you have to do is feel the top inch or so of soil. That is assuming you have proper drainage. Honestly its just kind of a feel thing.

Yeah that’s about how deep I go. I have 25% perlite in my mix, so I think my drainage should be fine.

Some plants like it drier than others too. You just have to figure out that sweet spot

Mine works great… picking them up is my preferred method, but as you stated, once committed to a trellis SOG, thats damn near impossible…

I see absolutely no issue here, all you need to do is place a scale under each pod.

Im just kidding, you can also wait for the leaves to slightly drop. Always keep track of the water amount after a while you know how much at what intervals.
