Slower growth with organics?

Hello! so I have 6 plants and 3 of them were not fully bred out of their auto flower genes so i’m just letting them do what they do without much, but my other three plants are still in veg and i’ve only use blood and bone meal 1 time so far i have them planted in a mix of half bag of FF OF and full bag of Dr. Qs rich gold soil. I let the soil go about 27 days before top dressing my soil with blood and bone meal, i know those are slow release nutrients. i’m now sitting at day 37, i feel as my plants aren’t as big as they could be for this long into veg. My PH/EC is great and soil PH is fine as well. other than the blood and bone meal i haven’t fed them. should i get them more or am i not waiting long enough for the plants to have some explosive growth!

PS: I think my plants look overall healthy just feel like they should be bigger?

Organics can be just as fast as synth, but it can also be super slow if youre not using a good soil mix or nutrients. You need to use fast release amendments, and compost teas really help. Ganja plants really like a buffet of ingredients, not just a couple things. I use Pride Lands, and I can get some pretty gnarley growth. FFOF is notoriously not great for good growth. I use a soilless mix, usually 70/30 coco/perlite. Top dress every 2 weeks in veg, weekly in flower. Adding a good ferment blend like Budhha Grow along with the teas a couple times a week really helps too.

EDIT Forgot to mention EC/PPM and PH dont mean anything in organic soil. The goal is to have good organic amendments to get broken down by soil microbes to become available to the plant as food. EC and PH are about making sure salts are available to the plant. Its a very common thing for growers to confuse, but it can cause a lot of unwanted hassle.

They look right for 37 days veg soil imo. Mine are at the same stage, and are about the same size. Keep doing what your doing the plants look very happy, i wouldnt change anything. Maybe grow a sativa dominant hybrid next and the growth will be double those. Good luck :+1:

Also its strain dependent if yours is indica they veg slower but flower faster to compensate.

You can give them 2-4 oz per gallon of coconut water - use the organic stuff, and make sure it doesn’t have any preservatives in it that could hurt your microbial growth. Coconut water has auxins and cytokinins in it - naturally occurring plant growth hormones - that could give your plants a little boost in root and shoot development.

Their colour is a little dark, that suggests to me that they might have a bit more nitrogen that they need.

two questions:

  • what’s the genetics?
  • what light intensity are you running?

The genetics are Durban Thai x C99 from Brothers Grimm

My PPFD is sitting in the 300s right now i slowly turn them up overtime

Whats your DLI? PPFD is super helpful, but its not the full picture.

My DLI is around 10.0 maybe a little higher

Yeah, thatll cause slow growth for sure! I start out baby plants around 25 DLI, and like to veg at 30-35 DLI for the best results.

C99 can be a bit sluggish on it’s own but a cross with Durban Thai should be energetic.

Bringing the light intensity up is the right thing. What’s your light schedule?

Okay that makes sense, i also don’t think i have a very accurate reading of my DLI as i use an app for it so it probably doesn’t read it the best i jsut got taught to go off the PPFD.

So quick question, my light is about 25% power right now but it makes my tent much more warm when it’s on, should i keep slowly increasing the light and get an AC for the tent?

How hot are we talkin? I deal with a lot of heat where Im at in a garage, but always keep my lights blastin at 100%. In my case, swamp coolers are a great cheap trick. But thats only when its 100+ outside.

when my light are on right now my tent stays about 80 degrees i knows it’s not crazy hot turning the lights up will make it hotter

Oh idk you were running dtc99 i ran 6 of those a couple years ago. Mine stayed short and branchy fwiw. Great choice the smoke is outstanding! Its one of my all time favorites the smell is really loud

How about lowering the light instead of turning it up, that will avoid extra heat.

Air movement between the Light and Plants can take a Lot of heat away…

yeah i have a fun for air movement and a inline fan for ventilation, it wouldn’t make sense to turn my light intensity down if the plants are going to need more light? i also live in a warm climate which probably doesn’t help the heat either

I think they meant physically lowering the light will increase ppfd without raising heat.

The room may not change temp., but the plant itself Will get hotter too @Bayarealivingsoil
Just saying

Yeah i’m not to stressed about the heat it’s just something i’ve been thinking about, i’ve also recently added some fans into my lung room and that has helped as well!
