Smoking vs Vaping

That is cool for sure but I think it has to be a ceramic tip ( healthier ) , still nice tho : )

Ember cordless lighter was the cordless one back in the day but it was waay too expensive

Must be more brands nowadays or a Chinese version

I tried to search for ceramic tips, but couldn’t find any devices with such tips. But maybe I didn’t look hard enough, who knows.

I use an injection ball vape through my various glass pieces as my daily driver for several years now. I couldn’t be happier. I occasionally roll a joint every few months but I just love the vapor !

I also have a tiny might as my portable although I don’t bring it out as much as I should.

I like ceramic. I always break them though.

I would say I vape about 90% of the time. I do enjoy the occasional joint or cannagar.

The majority of my vaping is in the form of hash rosin, hit on the Huni Badger. I’ve been using my Huni Badger for well over three years of daily use. Other than regular cleaning and replacing the tip every so often, it has worked perfectly. I do enjoy busting out the glass recyclers and terp slurper for those special occasions.

The second most used vape is my little PCKT Two for 510 carts. I make my own solventless hash rosin carts that are both tasty and potent. This is usually the device I use on the go or at work.

The third most used vape is the DynaVap. This is the one I use when I feel like having a session. It “feels” a lot more like smoking a joint than the other two devices. I particularly enjoy it when trimming to sample freshly dry herb. I find the “green” taste is not as noticeable in this device.

That happens to me too.

I agree that having more square corners at the bottom of the bowl is a disadvantage for the reasons you state.

This is my solution. I’ve been doing it for decades.

I take a brass screen and bend it into a vague cone. You can get various size screens, so find the size that works best for that particular bowl.

I bend it into kind of quarters. HA! (I just hit the bong!) Obviously, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Once it is folded over the corner of my countertop, I fully fold it into a half circle, then unfold it. Don’t press it flat. You’ll learn how much to unfold them. It’s nothing to sweat about.

You can see, after unfolding the screen, it stands about 1/4" proud from the countertop.

Here’s what the screen looks like before I “install” it in the bowl. This particular bowl has hollow walls, but I use the same technique for my solid walled bowls (which hold more weed). You can see that before it goes in, it’s wider than the bowl’s opening.

That disparity in size makes the screen “grip” the side walls of the bowl as it’s gently inserted. I use the point of this square nail to insert the screen. If I didn’t have it, I’d use the cap of a Bic ballpoint pen. Shit, do they still make them? I think so. In any event, you’ll find the appropriate tool. Here’s the thing that makes it work so well for me. I don’t push the screen all the way to the bottom of the bowl, which means it remains more or less conical. For me, that serves two functions - it helps limit the size of my hits and it burns more evenly. Also, when I load the bowl I don’t press down hard. That delays the screen’s eventual movement to the bottom of the bowl. That’s when I take the screen out, clean it and put it back (again not to the bottom of the bowl).

Because I’ve been doing this for so long, I don’t really clean each screen as it gets dirty. I have a glass with a bunch of used screens and some Grunge Off in it. Grunge Off is definitely my go to cleaner for all my glass, etc. It has a fairly nice citrus odor and works really well. Low VOCs. I have two, one of which is always full of Grunge Off. When the other one gets dirty enough to clean, I just pour the Grunge Off from the now clean one into the other, cap it and let it sit until it’s time to do it again. Back and forth, that’s all I do to keep my glass seriously clean. Ditto for downstems, bowls and screens. They each have a dedicated receptacle and they always have dirty (or now clean) brass or glass in them.

One last thing. Since I started using these “pre-water” charcoal filters, I don’t have to clean my bongs nearly as often. It’s really amazing.

I think I change the carbon in my filter maybe once or twice a month. Depends on if anyone else is smoking with me. That said, I only hit the bong 6 - 8 times a day, every day. You can extrapolate from that for your hittage.

I went from metal screens to glass daisy style ones and I’ll never look back. I hate metal screens.

but how often do you clean the bong?

Those screens coupled with that bowl and how much I move around with my bong freshly loaded, or how long it keeps sitting around freshly loaded no longer thought of, would have me scattering bowls around more than smoking them. I hated that kind of bowl most for screen use. I get what you are saying, it’s just not my thing.

Maybe once a month if it’s just me hitting it.

That particular bowl in the pictures above is a daisy. I totally use a brass screen in it as I described.

I grind one hit at a time just before hitting the bong. And I only smoke outside, so there’s no having anything sitting around in the bowl for any length of time.

What kind of bowl?

BTW, outta likes.

I only vape flower. No cartridges. Smoke is too harsh for my lungs.

Kind of bowl that has hollow sides and a shallow dish.

Daisy screens are these:

Oh wait I just realized you probably meant “meant for use with daisy screens”.

When I say a “daisy” screen, I mean a bowl that has a punctured glass bottom.

You can kind of see the “screen” at the bottom of the bowl. This is the bowl in my pictures above.

I use a metal screen with it as well as my other glass “screen” bowl.

This is the other one. It’s clean, it’s just dicro. You can see that it has been somewhat crudely quartered at the bottom. (Not a criticism, just an observation.) I use a screen in this one more to keep the weed captivated rather than to make it burn fully/easily. The holes at the bottom are somewhat large. The tapered sides are excellent for a full and clean burn. It also holds considerably more weed than the other one pictured.

In this conical bowl it takes several hits for the metal screen to remain in place securely when the bowl is clean. It needs something something rough to get a “grasp” on.

This is my currently favorite extract piece, though the banger I tossed out, since I don’t really like the way hot glass behaves with oil, vs how titanium behaves with oil, so the Ti swing is on this little piece. Struggles to keep upright when placed inline, but I don’t line them up anyway since I can see what I’m doing if placed sideways.

I really love the colour and rainbow shine in it, reminds me of pipes and bongs I have loved and lost or broken.

I find ebay.com to be a great place for budget fancy pipe shopping. The Breit one wasn’t from ebay but I’ve bought a couple pieces off ebay that were really exceptionally nice and at good prices too. Does take a long search ime though.

I think bongs are about cooling and compression

However, it is taking something valuable out of the smoke/vapor

For my money I go for the straight hit now.The purpledays/underdog and use my breath to control the hit

I get the best of what the plant has to offer that way

Even when I used to do bong hits…yeah, it comprsses the hit brings bigger rush

But that’s actually dangerous Loss of blood pressure for some folks lead to pass out

Bonk your head…And not in a good way

I go round and round …Ice hookhas, jack herer pipe, glass and wood one hitters…

Now, I want to try gravity pipe with the vape!

Still think it is dangerous for novice to get too big a hit @ once…Something to keep in mind some folks have a real blood pressure issue…But usually high blood pressure

The piece has arrived. The small bag of carbon that comes w it, is enough for several refills. The $12 bag is huge I suspect it will last at least 2-3 months

Awesome! @OriginalDankmaster96, I predict you’ll love it! Can’t wait to hear your reportage about how it smokes.

This will be my initial impressions…the nastiness I referred to, finally it’s GONE. This is a first bowl in a long time I’m not running to sink to wash my mouth out that I could taste all the flavors in terps. The water after 3 bowls is sparkling clean. IT should be dirty normally since the water chamber is small. @mota @ifish are RIGHT about this filter. I’m going to really SMOKE out of it we’ll see how many bowls it takes to start coloring the water and residue collecting on the sides. Anyway, the part that makes me want to stick to rolling blunts instead because of the cleaner taste, I’m stunned it didn’t happen like normally. This is preliminary proof it works because I’m too picky, I only want clean flavors inhaled.
