Solo Cup / Micro container cultivation

Hey everyone, I’ve been impressed with the solo hempy cup grow so much I felt the need to make a thread for future grows for the Hempy solo cup and Micro container grows and anything else that fits within the area. I just wanted to start this thread for any others to follow along or add to this. I want to use these pint size plants to strengthen the abiltiy to train and craft these into a no larf sight too behold.

I’m a very amateur grower but love the plants and hope to be a good Stewart for the canna plant moving forward.

I’ll put this out into the ethos and to hold myself accountable that I’ll be starting a few new Hempy solo cups in the very near future. I will be growing out personally made seeds some auto and some photo. This thread will be their home from beginning to end. Also, If any of you feel the need or would like too join in and see where this half pint size adventure goes please do!!!

With kindness and respect

Set to watching brother! I’m committing to switching fully to perlite hempy’s this next run, although I have 5 running right now .

The hempy is a killer for growing i just prefer organic growing but dont think I would have been able to keep the plants alive if it were in soil with my being away from work all the time.

@StrongerthanDirt @Organical

Appreciate you coming along for the ride and looking forward to watching you cultivate some pint size heroes of your own on here

I love when folks say stuff like this

Then throw up decent pics with beautiful plants, and moderate setups. Lol.
Makes me chuckle.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hell yeah man I’m following a long. I had a blast with the solo challenge. I just put another plant in in a solo to flower with the autos. I could do a hempy too I believe.

Pardon my ignorance but WTF is a “Hempy” ?

What ive always known as hempy buckets are a type of passive hydro bucket. Usually a whole is drilled into the side of a bucket. Maybe half way up or so. And the bucket is then filled with perlite/hydroton up to the hole. Then coco on top of that. It creates a resivoir at the bottom of the bucket. When you water from the top you water until about 20 percent water comes out of the whole. You eseentially have a hydro resevoir at the bottom of the bucket. Ive seen some really large and productive plants grown in hempy buckets.

Methodanon had a grow log. The way I watched them do it was hole in side but perlite filled to the top. Then watered to over flood the hole. That’s what I’m thinking of trying. But if I did soil on top of perlite maybe I could get away with my dry amendments instead of salts. Now I really need to consider that.

Nice! Thanks both @Gadarien & @TheDudeAbides !

:hugs:

I do something similar with a solo-cup turned into a “speed-cup” which is got many, many holes. This allows for roots to access O2 even if the cup is SOAKED.

The bottom of the cup sits in a food saver from the dollar store which acts as a drip-tray, but goes up 1/3 of the solo-cup.

I turkey bastor the pot and any excess sits in the “mini-res” which the plant will draw up over the next 24hrs.

It’s all done by weight. I lift the cup and can tell how much solution is required for saturation.

Proof is in the pudding, and here’s my pudding:

(Grapefruit Juice (90’s Grapefruit cut) , It’s about 18" tall from the top of the soil line)

@TheDudeAbides, Thanks for jumping in and laying down the details better than I could have. I just followed suit of what Methodanon was doing just little form. The system just works with salts. I’m sure it work with other mediums as well but I’ve just tried perilite so far. This was a test for me to see if I could do it and how I can be better on the next round.

My clones last run were in ~8oz fabric pots. They were doing fine until the roots escaped and then they were ENERGETIC. I was intentionally keeping them at “surviving not thriving”, but the mini pot in a flood & drain was keeping them happy and content even under minimal light.

I plan to use that as my cloning strategy in general in the future. I’ll share in here next time I run something in them. I may eventually try from seed in them, but it depends on future plans for overall plant sizes.

@Pigeonman so essentially your speed cup is a solo cup air pot. I LIKE IT!!! Do you have to water once a day or treat it similarly to a high frequency fertigation system?

depends on what’s going on top.

Right now in veg this one is getting 4-5 oz every other day. It needs more if I didn’t defoliate it so often and that it’s buried in my mother plants so it’s really sheltered in the canopy from the fans.

In full on flower in the warmer months I sometimes end up giving approx 3oz every am and pm.

There are so many variables which is why I just lift up the plants to figure out the dosage for the moment.

As far as reservoirs go I’ve gone to far…

I call this one the ΩPot 2.0; holds 6x 1L airpots with 4" net-pots + clay bawlz underneath. It’s a self contained RDWC Fallponics box.

Vers 1.0 had a 3 Gal air-pot on top and got mad-stupid. Too stupid hence the 2.0 vers.
