Hello Everyone, a quick introduction, I’ve been growing consistently since 2004(Club Card) outdoor to start, but currently growing indoor only. I miss the HUGE hauls you can get from outdoor product, and massive amounts of littles to make into Rosin, but times change and Outdoor isn’t an option unfortunately. All good, this Indoor diet is treating me Riot. ![]()
I started out indoor with Smart pots, mainly 5 gallon, but a few runs on 7’s. They treated me well for many (cycles) years, longer VEG times, but still ended up with what I was looking for. I have my 2 Sunset Sherbert clones in the 2x4 Gorilla Lite in the 7gal smarties I haven’t used for quite some time. Unfortunately, this is the 4th run on the clone, and she decided to go slightly herm this 4th round so it’s the LAST (picked them off and fine but not going any further with this one). Bummer enjoyed her for over a year, but it’s time to go down the road.
Currently for about the last 2 years (give or take), I’ve been rockin’ these grobucket inserts, I bought a 10 pack (3 unused still in the box) for 120 or something, not sure if you can get them anymore in bulk form, but 3 were 40 or 50 bucks and I needed 6 so I went for 10 since price is about the same and I get extras. I do roughly 2-3 cycles a year, no Summers usually, last year I did dip into early July to finish up and I’m not used to that and not a fan.
Back on track, so I bought some Camo Buckets and went to work with these SIP inserts. I used to work for a tropical plant house in the 90’s and used wicks for Spath plants back in the day, water only tho’, they do fine, adding food, rope wicking (we used wicking strips) isn’t the way and will clog up fast. I had also used wicks for vegging plants(water only) while I’m away on vacay over the years and did great, but never for bloom. I remember reading HT magazine and seeing the Earthboxes and always wanted a shot at those. I decided on the inserts since I grow 3 -4 zone plants on the regular. I do grow 2 plants in a 2x4 as well, just depends. The buckets do better with 3 smaller plants than 2 bigger ones, can be done, but I do lightly feed them on the passive hydro level too. Hydro/Organics is the way I’m telling you. I have chopped 10 days off of VEG time with same or better results(and less work). Once your plant gets used to the SIP from the solo cup in about 5-7 days, the next two weeks will be incredible growth.
A little about my soil, it orginally started with HP Pro Mix, castings, and extra perlite along with, crab, neem, kelp, fishbone, and alfalfa meal mainly. Minerals are SRP, Gypsum, and OSF, along with glacial rock dust (been using the longest) and azomite or A-Z. This soil has been recycled at least 5 or 6 times, I’ve lost track at this point. I add about 1/2 -3/4 of a cup of amendments to the 5 gallon bucket preparing for transplant, no additional cooking required this low of amendments, and definitely add perlite and vermicompost/castings(I prefer a two cup casting layer on top with a little mixed in then wheat straw). Recycled soil WILL get dense, and seedlings won’t like it, and aeration is a must for the inserts. I add about a half cup of my minerals mixed in and there she goes. OFF and running, a compost tea to jumpstart the buckets is a bonus and well worth it. The buckets hold about 3/4’s of a gallon, a tad more completely empty. Alright, it’s time to get some things done before, tonight, yawl be Green to One Another and I’ll get back to more information and data on these buckets. I flip em’ in 35 days from surface when I grow 3 per 2x4 and they go WILD. Happy New Years EVE, cya on the FLIP side. ![]()
