Hey there! I decided to start a journal to share a slice of everyday life from my backyard here in Brazil. Let me walk you through what’s growing right now
As landracers we usually grow “Paraguayan sativas.” Brazil was the first country in the Americas to criminalize cannabis, so I’d say it’s almost impossible to find regions where the plant has been cultivated for generations by farmers and families. Most of the cannabis consumed here comes from Paraguay and other countries, where cultivation has been part of the culture for generations, or from indoor growers cultivating modern hybrids. Brazil has a massive war on drugs, and cannabis has been at the center of a lot of oppression.
Some argue that Brazil once had its own landraces, but in my opinion, there wasn’t enough time for these plants to fully acclimate and develop into true landraces. They were simply tropical sativa types from regions like Angola, Congo, Mexico, and Colombia, places where the climate already suited them well, so naturally, they thrived here too.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, many Brazilians are arriving, and @FPunk has been doing excellent work spreading Overgrow here alongside his colleagues from the Green Canon Podcast.
In the latest ep, he invited @bigLblazed , and they spoke highly of the Overgrow network.
Regarding Brazilian landraces, that’s a great question. Recently, a friend from Bahia gifted me some seeds that might be Manga Rosa, but it’s hard to confirm right now. I sent them to @FPunk to germinate—they were very old seeds. Out of 30 he tried, only 2 have sprouted so far. He still has a few more to pop. We’re actively searching for authentic Brazilian landraces, but nowadays, it’s tough to find genuine ones. Updates on our findings coming soon!
Hello brother, thank you for welcoming Brazilians here at Overgrow, this forum is a magnificent place, for many Brazilians a home, a refuge, a safe place to learn even more about the art of cultivation and also about this wonderful OG culture.
Regarding native genetics, here for many years we had African sativas that were acclimatized to our country, states in the northeast region produced this type of plant until the end of the 90s, however trafficking needs speed and in this case the sativas were replaced by faster hybrids…
Both in Brazil and Paraguay, trafficking replaced sativas with hybrids, so our heirlooms almost became extinct, however, in recent years there have been many reports of sativas reappearing in the states of Bahia, Pernambuco and Paraiba, let’s see, we are in search here…
I tried to germinate a few dozen of them and only 2 came out, one hybrid and the other with carabde sativa, even better controlled…
I have 3 skywalker og in vega, they are simply spectacular, soon I open my diary here in OG, the rush of life has not left me.
Great to see journals from other parts of the world. We get lot’s of Brazilians here, I do love seeing folks growing around the world. I have some Skywalker OG growing right now, actually, they are likely from the same batch of seeds you have there. They are beautiful plants. I think you will also enjoy those Sweet and Sour Cindy, they were also very beautiful plants. Best of luck with your grow @sorrisoverdenamao
Hey man, I found this topic and I am sticking around to see how it goes. It’s great that our community is getting bigger here. It’s a safe haven for us to help each other deal with all the challenges of an illegal country. Best of luck!
OMG, I came here looking for gold and found diamonds along with it, save my countrymen, and save my OG family, great post, certainly seeing Brazilian posts encourages more of us to come to the right place, real information.
Good morning, bro! How’s it going? Just a quick update for you. Overall, the plants are doing well. The standout is Black Beard—it’s stretched a bit,
I’ve been able to keep its nutrition balanced.
Petrol Skunk and Zombie felt the new organomineral system a little, but they’re holding strong.
The clones of Black Beard and Petrol Skunk have rooted and will be moving into bigger pots this week. I’m switching back to 100% organic with super soil and water. I wasn’t feeling the organomineral—too much work, honestly.
Looking good bro, i would suggesting starting to stake them with some bamboo, to keep the ride smooth cant wait to see how the black beard ends up! Hope some stinky stuff!
