Sour Diesel Recommendation

I have a lot of Sour Crosses but no regular Sour D.
What are some recommended sources in regular seeds?

Sour D discussion can open cans of worms…

1.) Be prepared for herms, no matter where you look.

2.) Be prepared for whatever I say to be refuted and this to get confusing.

Here’s some I’d suggest looking into…

Karma The BX2 and BX4 (sowah) get lots of love, some hate, and some growers have had a lot of herms.

@katsu x Stoney: used whatever clone Katsu decided was “sour D” x Stoney’s sour D IBL. I suspect, maybe it was AJ’s, which some claim isn’t Sour D and is ECSD and is different, and blah blah blah… The boy is a Rez line related boy iirc. I grew a pack and liked the plants better than many other sour and chem packs. I grew other packs using that boy. He passes in great vigor and resilience IME

Topdog: Lots of iterations, my BX3 was disappointing, but I found one great variegated girl that was kinda citrusy and sweet, faster, with a high very similar to the better sour D’s. I’d heard the BX3 for others was disappointing as well. But, you can find disappointed growers of a lot of strains

A few places still have the Humboldt Seed Co regs of their Humboldt sour D. They do a pretty good job overall, though I can’t speak to that one in particular.

Afficionado made some reg releases, but it’s quite hard to find a feedback or a talkative grow log.
If an holder have tried some, i’m curious about the accuracy of the smoke ^^

hey “fuel”
i hold a few of those but i noy grow them myself yet.

but i was lucky to sample aficionado’s sacred sour and
original diesel bx2-buds, grown by a fellow grower in my
vicinity.

both were “normal” sours → not different from other releases.
= some really nice phenos, some nanas & some ‘bad’ plants

they’re absolutely worthwhile, but there are sours
that are easier to get elsewhere with same quality.

the GTR i noy tried or sampled yet.
some beans are in the stash but …
time and space ect… yeah …

Ive grew the Karma SD bx2 and Karma SD Bx4…

The bx2s were solid as hell… i think i has 6 fems and they all had nice sour high ans taste!

The bx4s i only got 2 fems out of the pack… they were ok, but i think a few more phenos woulda helped on the selection …

I have some f3s of the bx2 if u are interested

Once you get started you will want to try them all to see what all the talk is about. Lot’s of good Sour Diesel out there, some better than others.

I grew aficionado alder point sour diesel and the sunny valley alder point sour diesel offerings…the results…PURE SHIT…absolute fecal matter…not sour Diesel at all…the aficionado came out tasting like Graham crackers and or a plain gummy bear…fuckin nasty…and the sunny valley came out as a dark plant with a fruity semi gassy taste…again…pure shit…fecal matter
They all went into the burn barrel
They are now on my shit list/birdseed:
Riot
Katsu
Aficionado
Sunny valley

Thanks for the feedback, it’s important. I got some return recently on the Alderpoint and the so called “BX2” of Aff’, a quite large selection operated by an Austrian big player (on the clone dept). Nothing to add more, but a growth that also express a lack of work. On a large scale it’s just ridiculous, it look like a cheap “discovery mix” of a dutch white label.

On my side i still sweat blood on it. So much that just the reversed pollen is enough, i don’t have to make seeds (beside my private BXs). Look cool, until you know that the STS that have to be used cost 4 digits to blend with top grade compounds (and to master a dozen of PGRs). And also that it take me an half season to obtain it, in ridiculous amounts (3 to 4 grammers max, per fat and well vegged specimen).

On selection, i no longer do the parrot. The flavor is the most easy to preserve (at the cost of everything else). But from scratch and IBLized, it’s just the same smoke that the C91 (but with a “dieselish” render). The bx (on three running) that make me suffer the most is the one dedicated to the botanical shape : the floral grade and its singular sequence. It’s challenging everything i know, and after over 3 decades of real momentum in the field. How it feel :

  • It increase my “defaut” respect for all those that try to work it.
  • I insult the Me of a dozen year ago that thinked that what was lacking was just time to work it, it’s very false. It’s a real final boss for (true) breeders.
  • I’m more radical than before with the distinction SD/ECSD. But not in a clanic way, i find now that these two genetics are perfectly complementary in the game. And both should be respected this way imho. Chunkers have to stop to make the ECSD a fake SD, and respect the genetic for what it is : just the best alternative to a SD, AND a specific evolution that fit more with some profiles.
  • If there is real work behind, it’s legit to don’t expect cheap prices. She’s a breeze to grow, very resistant and hungry (lights and nutes), perfect cash crop … but genetically it’s the purgatory for breeders. It’s real and even quite underevaluated. No, i don’t justify 350/pack this way or temper my mood on Aff’ release. Just sharing tricks for the fool ready to suffer : dedicated your lines, stabilize them on main traits and be patient. Or you will be just “another one” that change nothing in the game.

Floral : consider her from the start as a true frankenstein creature that stand with ropes and tape. In order in the sequence : NL-> C91 → skunk → “SD”. The joke is that you need this sequence to keep her “genuine” in growth. Growing S1s first and to inbred it, teached me what to do. I can’t advise enough to make it the very first operation to do. I’ve actually the monopoly on S1s in the whole EU lol, so i guess that you have to be very prudent on the other side of the pond.

High : for my perspectiive and my skills type, it’s for me the most hard while increasing the potency. Her hybrid high is very much fragile and can vanish within a bad round of pairing. Unfortunately i don’t have any trick for this. I tried different strategy that all failed, you have to dial it with your instinct and your vibes. And to preserve like platinium the most unstable specimens or it’s gone for good in one shot. Work with the guts on the psychoactive side, really.

Legendary Terps : actually the most easy part lol Even to increase the intensity. But at the price of the two others main traits that define her. I chose to “glue” the terps on the NL side and i still bless the idea in BX3 now. Don’t freak out if it’s looking like a sensi NL / C91 hybrid, think chessmaster. Inject it later by touch patiently and work all in intensity whatever is the botanical price. Or you will turn around “one step forward, three step backward” style. But it’s NOT what the noise is saying, it’s the more easy part if you don’t make seeds for instagram but for the resuylts in the blunts.

Last point : plan 5 years before obtaining something decent, and accept it since the start. So you will see the plant for what she is. It will help you.

Awesome insights! :+1:

Also by reading about it and having tried crosses, it sounds to me like ECSD is easier to breed with.

I’m proud of this cryptographic one ^^
