Spacecats eternal garden (growlog/grow journal) of various strains

Hi fellow growers,

Just been lurking around here for some time now, and I finally want to start my grow log here.

I’m just a small tent grower from Europe who’s been growing for about 10 years now.
What can you expect here? To be honest, nothing too serious :joy:  - just doing it for the lulz with some Pollenchucks here and there…
(I do try to always make F2/repros from every regular strain I grow, though).

At the moment, I’ve got a mix of strains going, which I more or less picked randomly - except for the OG Kush, which I’ve wanted to grow for a while:

(I’m addicted to purchasing/getting new strains, so my freezer is full of them, lmao)

  • Sensi Star from Derg Corra Collective
  • Destroyer from Cannabiogen
  • Mamma Thai from Seedsman
  • OG Kush from Humboldt Seed Company
  • Cherry Slurpee (v1) from @santero

The OG Kush I planted earlier, and 8/10 showed up (looking okay so far- currently fighting some bugs…). The others I just planted today.

I’m growing in two 3x4 tents (one is currently full of cuts, though), using soil with chicken manure pellets, lime, mycos and some vinasse/molasses here and there…
I’ve been using autopots for a while but recently switched to good old hand watering.
I try to grow only regular seeds, although you might sometimes see a cut here…

I’m looking forward to exchanging tips, feedback, or just having a friendly chat. I’ll be posting regular updates and pictures of my grow!

By the way, if anyone is interested in seeds from anything I grow, feel free to PM me – I always make seeds with every run.

I really love the spirit of this forum and the people here. I’ve already met a lot of friendly and knowledgeable folks, and it’s great to be part of such a welcoming community. :green_heart:

Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences with the strains.

Until then, I wish you all big buds and happy growing! :herb: :green_heart:

Cheers,
Spacecat

Nice selection, looking forward to the Destroyer chucking  how you handle the multi (isolated) pollination?

Can put the males in the cellar, but I know I will have a hard time isolating all strains , so it will probably end up as always:
will choose the most important ones (strains which are hard to get /are not sold anymore) and make sure they get pollinated clean:
in this case I will make sure there will be a clean f2 of the destroyer and the OG kush
(OG kush perse not hard to get but this one from HSC only available in fem these days…)

Following along. Good luck!!

if these are regs and you find a male, are you going to run the pollen?
i know a few people might be interested in that particular dust.
seems that HSC no longer offers OG Kush in Regs format. you might be sitting on a last pack.

Joining up for the ride - joined at about the same time as you and like you being not too serious and love a bit of fun and plenty of smiles - thanks for the invite and looking forward to seeing your grows - Keep OG   :v:

Yeah those are regular seeds. I planted 10 and ended up with 8 plants, plus I still have 10 seeds left. It took me ages to find these (I know they only sell fems these days, thats why I bought them ) and they weren’t easy to get and quite expensive - especially since I’m in Germany.

I really love OG Kush, so these mean a lot to me. I’m definitely planning to make a ton of F6 seeds from them.

To be safe, I’ll take cuttings from all the males and females (at least from the Destroyer and OG Kush) so if I mess up the pollination, I’ll still have backups to work with.

@Spacecat , glad to see you joining the growers log. You got nice variety to strains. Interested in the og kush. Tried growing that strain but none germinated. I may hit you up for trade with one from my grow Il_medical Maui wowie indoor grow

I’m gonna pull up a seat and watch, good luck

So far so good
Normally just put them into soil or eazyplugs but this also works well I think.

Mama Thai 0/10
I know they had some problems with non sprouting seeds in one batch but this was supposed to be a newer one, but who knows only been 1 1/2 days so am not to worried…

Currently, I sadly don’t have much time to post updates, but here is a picture of the OG Kush.

One seedling I thought had died somehow came back to life,so its actually nine plants not 8 now.

I had some big problems with them in the beginning but I just planted them in bigger pots -which always helps… I still need to separate the females and males, but right now I don’t have time.

Unfortunately I can not use my cellar at the moment, so I have to switch up the plants.
I’ll just let the Destroyer stay in veg for now along with the Sensi Stars - no space for them otherwise. I also have some cuttings next to the OGs
(RS11, Permanent Marker, Dante’s Inferno, Super Buff Cherry, Runtz, Zoap, and Cheetos, and a chrindy…).

I might flip and replant the Destroyer into some big pots once the OGs are ready, but I’m not sure yet. I have some other strains I’d love to hit with the Destroyer…

I’ve been super busy with work lately, so unfortunately I havent had much time to post proper updates. That said, the plants are doing well so far and most importantly, we have two beautiful OG Kush males:

The females are looking decent, though I ran into some technical issues- like my exhaust fan shutting off completely at night - causing very high humidity (and other problems).
They could be in better shape but overall not too bad looking.

(The leaf color is actually the same as in the other pictures - the white balance is just off.)

Hopefully I wont run into any more technical issues - will keep you all posted.
Happy growing! :herb:

The technical issues seem to be fixed. Even though things werent looking too bad, I wasnt happy with their growth: leaf color was too dark, some clawing, burned tips, and slow growth (especially considering their size when I flipped them)…
But now with the environment dialed in, things are finally looking the way I want :grinning:. Plants are much healthier and showing those beautiful praying leaves (Day 22):

As I said I always try to take cuts of each plants - about two weeks ago (a bit late), I took clones of the OG Kush. Some have already rooted, and I’ve transplanted a few.

I also just took cuttings from all 11 Destroyer plants.

For pollination, I’ll be hitting the OG Kush in about 2 or 3 days. Not sure how many I’ll pollinate yet, probably taking 2 or 3 plants out of the tent and pollinating the rest.

I’ll also collect some pollen and try to hit a few cuts with it, but I haven’t figured out exactly how or when I’ll do that yet (are not flipped yet as I have no place for them):
Man, not being able to use my cellar really messed up my plans… My crazy landlord decided to put the second unit of an AC split system down there. Who even does that? :man_facepalming: LMAO.

Ive taken 4 OG Kush females out of the tent (they will inevitably get pollinated a bit anyways, lol) and started pollinating the rest of the 3 with the two males.

For me, there were two phenos: one with a lengthier structure, fewer branches and longer internodes, while the other had more branches with the lower branches growing up to the same height as the others. This was also the case with the males:

Gave them both a good shake and closed the tent , will stay there overnight fans running…

I had 3 of each pheno, and they looked pretty much the same. Smellwise, theyre very similar, though I found the shorter pheno had a more intense scent.

Also has anyone here grown the Cheetos Madrid cut? I got it from someone, and it has an interesting branching structure:

Anyone else had experience with that cut?

As for the rest, I’ll be using my Ikea Pax for veg, so I’ll be flipping the cuts soon. That way, I can pollinate some with OG pollen. When I flip them in 1-2 weeks and pollinate them 3 weeks later, the OG Kush will be ready (propably), and I can use the tent for the Destroyer.
I just have to somehow keep them small, or else the tent will explode if I give them too much veg time! Already cut off a good chunk for the cuts.
Will put some (purple) Old Timer Haze and a alladin Skunk next to them -wont have space for more. I havent checked how much males of females yet but tent is only ~1,1m² so cant put in too much of such strains.

Had some time to check on the plants and drop an update.
Pollination was obviously successful:

Plants are looking good: :grinning:

-though a bit too dark for my liking ,definitely on the upper limit fertwise…

But since I’m only giving water, it is what it is. That said, I do think pollinated plants benefit from having nitrogen on the higher side.

One of the three I pollinated is also turning out to be my favorite so far:

It’s the strongest smelling, fastest grwing and already good frost for Day 30 .Smell is also really strong that classic OG: earthy, woody, sweet pine, exactly what I love. :yum: Interestingly, that plant (#6) the cut decided to grow with three branches per node:

Also just realized I haven’t shown any of the destroyers yet, so here’s an overview:

They’re in the same soil as the OGKushs, which are already on the upper limit so obviously, they’re a bit overfed too ( looks even worse than in the pics, irl have really dark leafe colour…)

Normally I don’t have those issues, maybe I fertilized twice last time, who knows? (I recycle the soil and after each grow just toss in some chicken fert pellets …) but am not too wowrried It’ll grow out and fix itself. Could also crank up the temps and give more light, but I want to keep them smaller anyway. Also, there’s a 12th plant in there (lower right corner) (Purple Panty Dropper) same soil, growing just fine, so whatever…

Last update, I topped them all and took clones, some didn’t like that, like this one:

You can see how it was growing with 7finger leaves, but after topping it only put out 3finger ones and slowed down, which made the overfeeding more noticeable…
Maybe when I repot them into bigger pots I will just use the old soil from the plants i just harvested, but am not sure yet…

One Destroyer is growing also kinda weird and stepping out of line:

,funny enough it was also the only one that started with 3-finger leaves right after the cotyledons:

Gonna keep an eye on that one.

And of course… the thrips are back… :rage: Sprayed some stuff because it was getting too much. Had thrips and spider mites over Christmas, cleaned everything, and released predatory mites. Killed all the spider mites, and I still see lots of predators running around, but they’re the kind that don’t seem to go after thrips much. So I ordered some predatory mites specifically for thrips and hope they arrive soon.

Will keep you updated. :herb:

I had good results with Neoseiulus californicus and Hypoaspis miles.

Always check the predator mites if they are still alive, i had good experience with the german shop: re-natur, they got good mites for a low price

Time for an update:
Had some serious health issues and spent some time in the hospital, so obviously I wasn’t able to take care of the plants at all.

Luckily a friend of mine was at least able to keep them alive – he doesn’t grow, has nothing to do with plants in general, and was super busy himself, so I just told him to throw 1–2 buckets of water into the tents twice a week – lol.
And well… what can I say? It actually worked better than expected – good thing we’re growing weed and not orchids, right?

He even ended up harvesting the OGs (a bit early, but I still got plenty of ripe seeds). I think running 11/13 for all my grows helped them ripen a bit quicker anyway (I honestly believe all strains benefit from it).
I also had a few clones running in the other tent (RS11, Permanent Marker, Dante’s Inferno, zkittlez,MAC1 v2,Runtz, Cheetos, Zoap, Super Buff Cherry, Oreoz…), and I told him to just toss in a puck of OG pollen I had collected earlier -which worked for some. Not all strains took it and some only made 1-2 handful or of seeds, but hey, better than nothing, right?

Out of all the plants, one Cherry Slurpee V1 was the clear winner – had some really strong, sweet cherry terps with a musky background, really loved it and wanted to run it again… but sadly most of the cuts I took didn’t make it, including that one :frowning:

That OG Kush turned out really nice though – it’s got that typical strong OG smell, earthy sweet pine (with a hint of eucalyptus in the back (really like it)). The effect is super relaxing, zero paranoia, just a really nice, long-lasting chill high – not too strong, kinda perfect for daily use.

Gotta say though, the flavor is a bit muted. That heavy smell doesn’t fully translate to the taste, which is a bit of a shame… still nice though. :grinning:

Now to the Destroyers:
I was really lucky that I had just repotted them before going to the hospital, so they actually all made it -also tossed in a lot of predator mites the day before so the thrips didnt complet take over (still have them I saw though will have to make a break after theyre finished and compety clean my whole grow room).
Not sure how or why, but my timer was messed up, so they went back into veg (lmao).
They were really dry too – my friend couldn’t water for a bit – so they almost died. They don’t look great at all now (just looked back and saw I sprouted them like 6 months ago… WTF… what a shitshow lol).
I mean, I’m a lazy stoner but this really takes the crown for worst/unproductive grow ever :joy:

Anyway, I’ve got like 6–7 males, that one plant that’s still growing weird (probably gonna toss it), and 3–4 females left.
They look rough though – leaves are clawing bad while also pale green (funny enough the males look all right)
Just repotted them into 8.5L pots and flipped them – gonna just do an open pollination and say fuck it (they are already way too tall for that tent (grew really tight notes as they were diectly under the lamp though)
Normally I’d take one or two out just to smoke, but honestly, I really don’t care anymore :upside_down_face:

Also have 4 Sensi Stars that survived – had 4 females from that pack (also revegged), the males didn’t make it . Will probably just hit them with the Destroyer pollen too.

Not sure what I’ll do after this…
Kinda feel like doing a big SOG again (haven’t done that in a while), maybe test some pollen chucks, maybe repro some older strains. Or maybe try to find some chuck partners for the Destroyer – not sure yet…

Will keep you updated with some more pics and details (all I had atm didnt wanna just leave a wall of text) :herb:

Thanks – doing much better now

The Destroyers were nearly completely dead and dried up by the time I finally got a chance to check on them, so I had to strip off all the dead leaves - which left them looking almost completely naked…

(Can’t find the pics right now, but I had one really sad shot where you could see them all basically on the brink )

It’s been 14 days since then, and after flipping:
The males are actually looking pretty good:

Can’t say the same for the females unfortunately.
They’re not bad, but honestly should’ve been tree-sized by now…
Did some LST to help those four fill out the tent a bit.

Conditions actually seemed fine (aside from a few thrips here and there) - leaf color, environment, etc. - so I couldn’t figure out what was holding them back compared to the males.
Then today I noticed some tiny flying insects. First thought: ugh, fungus gnats again :upside_down_face: - but they looked… off?

Took a closer look and yep: fkn soil mites (fml).
Didn’t even know these mfers could grow wings at some point (??) and apparently they can asexually multiply too (wtf?).

Honestly, I’m so done with growing this year. Since I moved, it’s been nothing but issues - just a whole damn zoo of pests. Didn’t have a single problem for over a decade, and now suddenly I need to toss the soil I’ve been reusing forever…

Just super drained by all of it this year (and not just the grow stuff tbh).
On the bright side : no more excuses, gotta finally deep clean the whole damn room :unamused:.

Also, for anyone still following along :
If you want some OG Kush F6 from HSC, hit me up ,I finally have time to send some out. Just shoot me a PM.

Will keep you updated🌿

Quick update:

Since I don’t spray anything on flowering plants, I let them dry out quite a bit and then fully dunked the whole pots underwater with a neem oil mix. Hoping that keeps those damn soil mites in check until the run’s finished…

Males are really throwing pollen around so collected some - man, it’s been a long time since I had 7 big males going full bloom in one tent. That was a ridiculous amount of pollen flying around, lol.

And for anyone wondering why I separated them even though I plan to open-pollinate anyway - it’s because two of the males started throwing early, and I didn’t want them knocking up the whole tent before the rest were even ready…

Let’s see how this plays out - fingers crossed the mites stay in check :crossed_fingers:

Another 12 days gone - feels like yesterday - sometimes time’s flying

The Pollen I collected was about 5ml of pollen, was split into 10 portions and was frozen. Grabbed another fresh batch from all the males - used this one additionally for pollination (was sifted after the pic to remove plant bits)

Lucky it’s super hot and dry here - zero issues with mold or clumps, even when it was a small pile…

The 4 females have been chilling with the males in the tent for 3 days now:

Neem oil didn’t cut it, so I dunked them twice in pyrethrum - a few days apart. Seems to have worked! Haven’t seen a single live mite since.
Plants are finally bouncing back it seems:  (especially given the current temperatures here (its 34C in the tent)

Trichomes are coming in, smell’s getting really nice - hard to describe, but definitely promising :grinning:

My 2nd tent was sitting empty (which I really hate), so I dropped some seeds about a week ago. Plants are looking good so far (no pics yet, will add later).
As I got tired of the pests, I ditched the soil and will switch to cocos for a while -haven’t grown in cocos for years, but really enjoyed it back then when I did.
Got Frosty Slapz, Savage Hulk F3, Headbanger (HA pheno), a few OG crosses from my last run, and some others.
Might hit some of those with Headbanger pollen if I find a nice male.

More updates soon - hope you’re all having a great week! :herb:
