Specializing in hot peppers

The ones in the orange tub? Those are the first batch of frozen citron seeds I popped. And thanks!

I have never grown fataliis, though I have bought many seeds from a guy called fatalii haha. Root knot nematodes are one thing we don’t need to deal with up here, but if the winters keep being like last winter, idk if that will last. We do have pepper maggots, which are pretty gross and destructive haha.

I have had good luck with chilis in 3 gallon pots or bags of good, strong soil, bottom watered in saucers outside. Maybe an option for you if the nematodes keep you out of the ground this year.

I haven’t. I was under the impression they wouldn’t help, but now I’ve something else to get googly with

Before we made more beds, I used sheetrock bucket SIPs for a few years, and had pretty good luck. The beds are so easy, except for the nematodes… I oughta pull a few of those :)buckets out of hibernation!

Every spring I threaten to build sips for my chilis, then I get lazy and don’t haha.

I’m thinking about throwing down some sand and leveling off a spot in the yard, plopping a bunch of fabric bags into a kiddie pool. Be really convenient to just chuck like 10 gals into one kiddie pool, compared to filling a bunch of saucers one at a time.

Anyone good with pepper problem diagnosis?

I’ve got a nadapeno ( wussy version of a jalapeno) in my tent and its got this whitish powder look on a bunch of leaves… its not powdery mildew, not seeing any bugs, and the plant seems healthy other wise. Any ideas if this is an issue, or somthing normal? I’ve never grown peppers before

If it isn’t PM, I’d say it’s a pest. Maybe mealybugs?
Probably susceptible to jalapeño mealybugs since it’s in the family

By rights, there shouldn’t be any strange bugs. I just finished a weed plant in there, no strange plants have come in or out, its the same promix coco ive used and stored indoors for well over a year. No signs of the leaves being eaten etc… if I rub it one way the white stays, rub the opposite direction it goes away (as if its part of the leaf, like a wood grain)

The others I had in there (put them outside yestetday) don’t show signs of it. The only difference between them is the one with white is much closer to the light.

Could it be a form of light stress? Usually by 8 pm this plant starts to droop a bit as if its had enough for the day lol

I don’t think so brother. Never seen light damage look like that.
If you’ve ruled out mildew and bugs, you’ll have to wait for someone who knows more than me.

Ordered from here: https://www.chileplants.com/

I got plants from them a few years ago that were great, but I think it is different owners now. They came on time and well packed though. I got them a couple weeks ago, kept them in the little pots, and put them in the ground just 2-3 days ago.

That looks like edema. I get it sometimes when I overwinter plants inside. Overwatering + not enough airflow can cause it. It looks almost like salt on the leaves. I had it bad on a few plants, but it never really caused any problems. The plants produces, and I put them out the next spring no issues at all.

Another guy on fb suggested edema, so I upped the fan speed and let it dry out… it started wilting like it was thirsty and the soil was bone dry so I gave it a small drink.

But now I’m loosing leaves like crazy, I gave a light shake to help move pollen and everything you see in the pot came off… my leaves also don’t have that nice waxy look. Only the newest growth does

My son got some peppers from them last year. He ordered Fataliis (among others), and they notified him just before shipping that they didn’t look so good, and asked if he wanted to cancel. He said yeah, but they sent them anyway. They were almost right, they didn’t even look close to good. Charged him for them, too.

The other peppers were fine, and grew nicely, the Fataliis all croaked :frowning:

Their packaging is impressive, though!

That’s a bummer man. I wish I could explain the leaf thing(edema if it is), but I do see it sometimes. I’ve never tried to fix it, as it has never caused me any problems, and once the plants get out in the sun they straighten out.

I imagine you are trying to get these to fruit inside? I only keep chilis inside until they can go outside, so I don’t know what changes inside if you’re trying to get fruit. I will say that while they’re hurting you should pull any flowers off so the plant can focus on leaves.

Since edema is cells bursting, enough of it will cause some leaves to get dull and drop. If you are not trying to fruit inside, i’d just let keep them as is with light watering until ready to go outside.
