Nice awknowledgement in social media @drgreensleeves ! One day i’ll get there but tbh I worked in the media for 18 years and seem to have an aura around me that has me always asked for help, but never supported in the same way when I’m doing my own thing.

I asked a few friends about why I’m always alone in this and I got told that it’s a combo of ā€œyou are very intimidatingā€ and ā€œyou seem fine on your ownā€.

Hearing this kinda broke my spirit and my arts practice imploded afterwards. I’m familiar with history so I do my best not to repeat those mistakes and all I could think about were artists like Vincent van Gogh, Emily Dickinson, Johann Sebastian Bach, & Claude Monet to name a few who all are renowned today but could barely feed themselves while still alive.

This depressing situation made it very complicated for me to succeed as an artist or filmmaker because in the film industry you go nowhere alone. It’s all politics where your social network is what carries your career. Even indie superstars are where they are because of this support network which is often not talked about by those that have the spotlight.

I have a friend with a PHD, teaches in university, has 20+ globally known experimental films, fully published books on film art, film history, alternative contemporary cinema and GRINDHOUSE TRASH, runs his own multimedia distribution company representing dozens of canadian artists amongst a bunch of other things… but he makes no money, has to fight to do anything, and has no support from the community he’s been a part of over 20 years.

When he’s here he’s like Tesla feeding pigeons… no one gives a fuck and walks around him like he’s a bum. However, his screening resume (places and festivals his work has been shown) is so fast that I see the green eyes in these assholes in person when he was around.

As someone trained in film from the 90’s on-wards it’s all just too much now and feels so pointless most of the time when anyone can create/share/market themselves as a photographer or cinematographer because they own a phone… similar things now to someone calling themselves a writer in a world rife with the start of humanity’s loss of ourselves even more as we move forward into the AI world.

This is all super prevalent in social media as well and while I’m trying (and thank you for being one of my followers) it’s really hard to care to create content from my POV when there’s 1.3 BILLION images uploaded to Instagram every day.

That number alone makes me extra proud that you got the recognition you deserved while you are doing it, and still have the SPIRIT to keep doing it.

As for my mindset… I’m with Dadbodveteran’s statement in the clip below because OG is safe from all the social media stuff I just ranted about at 7am because I can’t sleep anymore as the house is shaking due to the street getting dug up.

@Pigeonman I use it same as here a kinda grassroots style and slow and steady wins the race  . I figured my unique gear will speak for itself especially not being mainstream polyxpolyxpoly since it’s all bred from landrace and all my own work (I got a F1 from @Upstate and a F1 from @lefthandseeds so I won’t claim ā€œallā€) but mostly

I’m working on so much stuff to but the forground nursery stuff has been my summer’s focus and while the in person sales are great as I’m a master of running pop ups and carney selling i’m absolute shit at getting people to buy from me via online.

As for ā€œPigeonman’s Bird Seebā€ i’ve got 20+ F1’s custom crosses I wanna start working into F2’s before I actually do a release.

I have a pile of stuff all ready for this and have already talked to LJ about sponsorship but I still have too much on the go to pull that trigger.

Also distribution is complicated as i’m in :canada: so I’m still trying to figure out how to make that work and also get the money from clients if anyone even cares to purchase when I get my shit together.

Every email from GLG tells me ā€œnew breedersā€ā€¦ which is making me feel more and more like my years in film watching everyone around me succeed as I do my best and only end up as part of their support network.

There’s a place so close to me I wanted to do this but it literally makes no sense in a city of 6,491,290 people with too many resources available in person not including online platforms.

True but I have found that most people are lazy or have little time or would rather do other things and if they have the money will just buy it instead and most of them nowadays love to get it from a local small independent craft source  leaving room in the market for folks just like us bro I don’t have to get rich I just need to pay the light bill and land taxes bro

Fuck there’s so much semen around my desk I wonder if I can scrape that up and sell it?

(JOKE: my dog will never let semen just sit there.)

(Now… is he joking this time?)

And allow me to amend most people also have lives and little extra time to gather and do all the research that we do @Pigeonman so for it to be in a nice package to just buy it helps them and they help us :wink: it’s a beautiful relationship  hopefully anyways :rofl:

Try to make your YouTube channel more sigma style, without your face, only use your voice. Behind the camera not in front of it. Let your work speak for you. I know that a lot of talented people can’t breakthrough, and less talented make it. Go figure.

This is one of the break through moments for me when I realized this ps and the fact that most of the killer genetics from the 90s were accidents and bagseed :rofl:

Oh buddy I’ve been creating content in a different context for over 20 years.

I hear ya but it’s not the content ideas or modes it’s the whole shebang.

Camera work, writing, post production, marketing, etc. I’m rather burned out from doing it all for so long i’m at a point where I can either do the thing, or record the thing being done.

I cut my teeth on 35mm motion crews in Toronto where there was an individual or team responsible for each of these tasks and the end results speak for themselves.

Flash forward and when I think about setting up a shot before being able to do the thing I feel like such an asshole as I’m emotionally ruining my own enjoyment of doing the task. If I had a friend that wanted to do my documentation like I did for others then I’d have more content than you could want to watch.

There’s a great example of a co team situation where the creator has fucking no interest in the video side of things but the guy who’s really into the online content creation and it shows:

Irish Mike = does what the fuck he wants and creates what he’s aiming to create.
American Mike = runs around with a camera documenting the nonsense and then puts it all together online.

Great combo that reminds me of Sharon and Ozzy
