Storing Seeds?

I just got two packages that are right now sitting inside a priority mailbox.

The question is, should I stick the box in the fridge, open it, stick a dessicant in and then stick it in the fridge, or take it out of the box, put the packs in a ziplock bag with a dessicant and then put that in the fridge. Which is best?

Thank you!

You ask that question to 10 people and you will get 10 different answers.
Things you have to take into account such as weather and location will make people do different methods for handling newly received seeds.

I will suggest a small airtight mason jar, put the packs in and then store in the fridge.
No desiccant needed.

I store all my seeds in Tupperware in the Crisper in the Fridge

All the above replys are great.
But know that if you take the container of seeds out of the cold fridge and put on the warmer counter, condensation will happen within a few minutes.
Take a cold drink out of the fridge and soon beads of water will collect on the outside of the can or bottle.
So i include a dessicant in my seed jar.

I store mine in mini test tubes with rice. Then placed into an airtight bag that is placed in the fridge.

You could build an underground chamber and make it into a seed cellar with just the right amount of relative humidity for optimal seed storage for as long as needed.

It still needs one more thing for security…

Noah’s ark was actually a dna bank. Think about it. How else did you carry two of each animal. There dna. A mobile seed storage bank.

When i take seed jars from the fridge, I’ll let them sit for 15 to 20 min. before opening. Because they are airtight the condensation does not get into the jar while its adjusting to room temp. Be careful with too much desiccant, in my opinion it can draw all the moisture from seeds, making them less viable. Everyone has methods that work for them. This works for me. :v:

We could inscribe Runes in the tongue of Durins Folk on the Doors with a giant Weed leaf in the middle the Spell words to open would be “Speak Homie” then enter.Only visible on the Full moon of the lunar Cycle.

I usually do it similarly as some here, I put some cat silica in a cloth pouch and just leave the seeds in there, in a container, then put the container inside a cardboard box that’s a bit bigger and then another pouch with silica. Since the fridge is something I open a bunch of times a day, I’m just trying to prevent some temperature swings as it can get pretty hot around here, so I use the box and leave it in the back of the fridge.

Question. Does anyone think say the “fancy “seed vile dipped in wax would be adequate to air seal for fridge storage?

If that guy was smart he just would have loaded the pollinated females.

Wrap it in tinfoil, Light proof it too and Cheap added bonus

Definitely would keep it lite proof and I figured if I pulled a tube out that would be it. Grown not going back in. Didn’t know maybe I should glue it or if the wax would be enough. Type of wax I think people use to seal wedding invitations

A pollinated female gives the chance for one offspring reproduction wise. Taking the dna of each give unlimited reproduction. A little STS and just females could have went a long way tho lmao.
