Has anyone a clue whats going on with this sprout, its two weeks from germination and will not open up, it just grows very slowly, and after prying the cotyledon open it springs back in a few hours.

Aww it’s shy awww. Just kidding haha. That’s a funky one and something I haven’t personally encountered before, especially 2 weeks deep from germ. I certainly hope whatever the issue may be, it resolves itself and you are left with some insane keeper by the end. Good luck my friend.

That there is a genuine “Freak of Nature”. Love it or kill it. Personally, I’m curious enough to grow it out and see. Of course that takes time and space and I’m not aware of your situation. If you can’t grow it maybe gift it to someone who can.

How do you like the pods you’re using? I just sprouted my first ever seed in one. I usually use Root Riot, but had these around…

I’ve found that they need to be really wet and fully expanded so theres no dry hard spots in them then squeezed out to get rid of excess water, I use hot water, then in a propagator on a heat mat, if they get cold or dry thats when problems start. Also usually the seed doesnt go down into the plug deep enough so I deepen the hole with a tooth pick.

Yeah too wet or cold can cause damping off. Root Riots sound like a better option but they’re hard to find here in NZ.
I’m toying with the idea of the Johnnypotseed method next time.

I’m afraid of them because they get contaminated easily. I have a bad experience with them being mold contaminated. For seed starting i buy new soil and hope it’s good.

Ok I never thought of contamination, they are sold in plastic net bags completely open to whatever.
