I smoked the original from Laytonville by the guy who grew the pounds that got sent to Berner’s dispensary from which Berner popped the bag seeds and renamed the line.
The original line smells and tastes just like the Chem I first smoked in Syracuse in 2001

I guess I never heard it much from the actual breeders point of view that’s entirely possible I heard a one sided story.

I don’t see chemD being a direct parent at least I’ve never had a hybrid that led me to think a 50% child of it could express traits like that we know as cookies
the first cookie I had was some insanely strong pot tho. def didn’t have the social mellow OG vibe of the other cuts
ogkb is next next best cut I’ve ran as far as remnants of actual dough

When you say cpk I’m assuming you mean cherry pie kush but there is also a critical purple kush that has similarities. I’ve never been a fan of the cookies plants specifically but I have smoked some good gelato varieties but wouldn’t grow them much better yielding kush type plants to be had.
In the 2000’s Pot Of Gold was real big in Mendo.

You, if you look at the bud structure if Cookies et al., you can see how the calyxes point upward and inward, just like Hindu Kush / Bubba Kush.
I always thought it interesting how Bubba left the scene as Cookies came aboard.

But OG’s do fine so that could be a matter of artificial light and lack of similar spectrum to what is best for phenotypic expression or at least changes it
I’ve seen this first hand playing around with whacky nm in the spectrum n LED’s
Has anyone else noticed that even S1’s of OG’s always have stronger branching until like a few mom generations down then line and they get to be your standard wimp

I couldn’t speculate on the genetics. but this jives with what I have heard about how berner got the line.
From the point of view of a prop 215 prop 420 patient going to clubs in SF at the time,
that dispensary had a batch of partially seeded bud and berner slapped the name “girl scout cookies” on it to make it sell. It sold out fast which was unusual in the small dispensary scene at the time. That generated some word of mouth.
Then it took a while for them to stock it again. I heard that was because they grew out the seeds from those seeded lbs. and when they had cookies back in stock, it was grown from the bagseed.
I think the cookies name did well because local girl scouts had already been setting up in front of dispensaries in sf to sell cookies for years. the local news like Kron4 liked to do these sensationalized puff pieces about it asking people on the street whether they thought it was bad for the kids to be interacting with mmj patients and selling cookies in front of a dispensary. It was classic marijuana demonization.
I think that’s why people were so attracted by the GSC name. it was capitalizing on that image.

Well 3rd gen has always stated that a unknown was 1/3 of the equation. That’s how they have it listed on there site, the glue zauce I used as a bx was from green fire genetics. I picked the pack up on recommendation of another known breeder who assured me zkittlez would be winning the cup that year and it did. I realy liked the watermelon zkittlez more then zkittlez to be honest. I haven’t gone to the cup sense but have been thinking of attending this year.
The only reason I went then was to trade some landrace African genetics for some Panama Red beans and to get some gear from the ringo family.

We grew it outdoors several years ago around the time jungle cake first arrived in the NorCal rooms but my buddy went threw a harsh divorce and lost everything but the jungle cake. It had great terps but low yield and poor structure IMO.
