I was at Cornell one day talking with a brilliant (my opinion) educator who was running the invasive species program. There were so many opinions in the conference about how to deal with invasive species. There were testimonials and lots of intelligent scientists in the room giving their opinions. But he kept driving home his point which was data, data, data. Without proper research to back up their statements, they were just giving an uninformed opinion. Has there been much research showing the difference between sunlight and artificial light on other plants? Back in the early 80’s I grew out some seeds under a bank of 4 ft. T8 bulbs and produced some tasty popcorn sized buds that amazed me. The bulbs in no way duplicated the sunlight but the weed was still good.
Agriculture is the biggest business there is. Almost every university has an ag department and greenhouses. I’m sure there’s thousands of white papers on sun vs various lighting technologies on plants.
But in a real world practical sense…you can grow fine plants inside. If indoor plants were markedly worse or grew at reduced rates or made bud that didn’t get you high, maybe they’d have a leg to stand on. But it’s always a “quality” to outdoor bud they can’t quantify or even name…seems like some folks want to believe in the “power of the sun and nature” and let that color their opinion.
I firmly believe you can grow high quality bud with fluorescents it’s just a matter of how many and how close they are. HID is more practical in that sense of course. Hard to completely surround a plant in fluorescents less than 6" away from buds. I’m talking a phototron times 5, more or less matching HID wattage. Especially since newer T5 HO are stronger than the T8 and can fit closer together.
If there’s a single non-parasitic plant (there’s a few parasitic ones that don’t need light) that can’t be grown under artificial light, maybe the sun can’t be replicated.
The sun has higher spectrum then indoor lights to allow the genetics to shine just doesn’t look as good because indoor has more of a caustic environment
Plus outdoor wind is better and outdoor soil in the grpind is plentyful
And outdoor yeild is crazy
I can grow in the winter. At this time of year lights are far superior to the sun.
Good Point @Foreigner
I love weed. Overgrow The World
I think this is very worth a listen. Imo various aspects support both sides. He does very clearly at the end state there is not much research done on UV and other light spectrums and thinks they could be use for disease prevention, etc. On the other side of the debate says sheer photons are often more important than spectrum. Take from it what you will.
No one ever said you can’t grow amazing plants indoors Vern. You can straw hat those arguments all you want. You were trying to say grow lights are exactly like the sun, and they are not. There really is no other arguement to that statement unless you have some special spectrometer that shows you have all the wavelengths the sun does. End of discussion unless you have some other data, tests etc other than 'your opinion that artificial spectrum is the same as the sun.
Isn’t it beautiful!

Do you mean 5500K? That’s noon time sun spectrum. It actually changes throughout the day. Thing is…the 3000K spectrum of most bloom lights actually improves on the sun…slightly favors budding and flower development. It’s why a 2000K HPS grows plants just fine.
Grow lights are exactly like the sun…in that they emit radiation plants grow in. Plasma technology is actually the same process but you don’t use them. Cry about all you want lol. Learn a bit about light and get back to me when you have a point to make other than “vernal bad”.
Like I said, no tests, nothing to base your claim on - nothing other than your opinion lol, bye strawman…
no one is gonna argue that either.
I’ve had bad and good from outdoors and indoors. Maybe the bugs add an extra something
Someone asked about some outdoor pics. Go on instagram and you’ll find plenty. CSI alone has fire outdoor buds.
Let’s see your outdoor. Where is your grow log?
Was just curious. I like to see peoples work.
Wish I could do a log. Hopefully soon someday
Just tuned back in and looks like we are still going…
Ahhh it all makes sense now, I wouldn’t have any faith in nature either if my tap water poisoned me… could be the reason your palate is off too.
Always wanted to visit the home of Motown and J Dilla so one day I may be sharpening my blades in your area ready for a cook off.
That’s if the US ever lets me back in to the country which I’m currently not allowed…
Not sure who made that claim but it wasn’t me but it took out 9 tumours in my guts so it definitely works for some so worth advocating for.
We are going around in circles, as I already stated smoking doesn’t attack cancer cells. Come on mate use relevant examples or it’s not saying anything.
Now it has to be ingested to work? It’s in your blood either way. Bob Marley’s cancer would have been cured had he eaten buds instead of smoked them? C’mon guy.
Michigan is a big state…not all the water is contaminated. You’re thinking of Flint, and that was a pH issue affecting lead pipe infrastructure, not the actual water. I’m not in Detroit, either. Other side.
I’m sure the tapwater in Central America is soooo much better than here lol. I bet you never got traveler’s diarrhea and never have boil orders.
Why aren’t you allowed in America? I bet there’s a good story here where you aren’t the bad guy somehow.
Anyway…outdoor weed isn’t better than indoor. Don’t know if you have a cogent point to make.
Water in Costa Rica is super clean straight from the tap so once again you are incorrect. Do some research before typing for a change.
Who said that? You are making shit up again. An RSO extract is not green matter.
Bad guy haha, you really say some wild shit. I unknowingly over stayed my visa by one day, that’s all it takes. The border control denies people everyday for what ever reason they feel like it. I shared a room with mixed nationalities getting denied entry, all for BS reasons. Don’t worry I’m not loosing sleep over it.
And the lights help heat my room in the basement in the winter. And there’s no uninvited pest pressure during the cold Northeast winter. And I don’t have to worry that I’ll bring in spider mites on my clothes. Spring, fall and winter are all good with lights. Summer is outdoor time or just time off.
