So RSO is exactly like smoking weed now? Just like artificial lights are exactly like the sun. He we go with some absurd ‘Vern knows all’ argument about how two totally different things are exactly the same.
This has a lot of really good info in it. Here’s the full article:
Although UV-B represents a threat to plant integrity in large quantities, smaller quantities of UV-B have important benefits such as promoting pest resistance, increasing flavonoid accumulation, improving photosynthetic efficiency, and serving as an indicator of direct sunlight and sunflecks
Lydon et al. (1987) reported increased THC concentrations when cannabis plants were grown with supplemental UV-B radiation, suggesting that cannabinoids may play some role in UV protection.
Studies have reported that light spectrum influences cannabinoid quality and cannabinoid secondary metabolite production (Hawley, 2018; Magagnini et al., 2018). Magagnini et al. (2018) compared overhead HPS lamps to LEDs with two different light spectra (peaks at ~450 and 620 nm, as well as at ~450, 550, and 660 nm). THC percentages in C. sativa L. flowers were 9.5 and 15.4% for LEDs and HPS, respectively, at 450 μmol m−2 s−1. Other cannabinoids such as CBD and cannabigerol showed higher concentrations under LED light treatments compared to HPS light. Hawley (2018) reported that combining 530-nm LED light, 440-nm LED light, 655-nm LED light, and metal halide lamps increased dry bud yield by 18–24% relative to the control. The same trends were observed with cannabinoid and terpene concentrations (Hawley, 2018).
Exactly like the sun no less, that’s amazing Vern! I can’t believe you know all this considering they specifically say in that article more research needs to be done.
You made the statement RSO and smoking weed are the same, I’ll await for your supportive material. I do have material that says they are not the same.
It’s crazy how you conflate “more research needed” with “vernal wrong” and “growing beautiful plants successfully indoors is in no way replicating sunlight”.
The fact is, “better” still remains to be defined, and there is only a narrow latitudinal band on the whole planet where it’s even feasible to grow a decent portion of cannabis strains to completion without facing mold/rot, frost, or other weather issues. For all the rest of us not in ideal climates like humboldt county, no, sun grown will never be “better” than indoor as no matter the skill, you can’t even finish most strains in most climates. I can’t grow Original Haze outdoors in Illinois and expect to even get anything.
So I think to start, we need to define what ‘Better’ even means. Then we need to define WHAT strain may be doing ‘better’ outdoors than indoors. And WHERE that is. Then maybe we can determine WHY.
All we’ve been doing here is semantics, and mine’s-better-than-yours…
I haven’t found a plant that won’t finish here in N. California but in all honesty I start all plants indoors . Seed or clones started under LEDs and sun 24/7 LEDs at night moved out door during the day best of both words until its warm enough to plant outdoors . I only smoke my own seems to do the job for me .
Well that depends on the size of your room lol, imagine growing in an enclosed stadium, but yes for the most part outdoors is bigger. Good looking plants.
I feel that. Outdoor is unfeasible for almost everything I want to grow unless I build a greenhouse but I’m in middle of town and that screams “rob me” here in MI lol.
Central Illinois is brutal for OD. There’s those summer nights where it feels like you’re literally swimming. Rain comes early in Fall. I grew a little in Illinois cornfield edges, near boggy overgrown areas people didn’t walk in. If it didn’t get ripped, beat up by storms, or eaten by deer, it rotted.
I will have to second this. Better is a very subjective term. I realize testing is somewhat controversial, but that would be one place to start.
I would disagree with this on the basis of using greenhouses, heaters, dehumidifiers, etc. We use much of the same type of equipment in indoor growing.
I’m also all for this. I would like to present the article which was posted by testofoath with I read and cited and the podcast by Bruce Bugbee talking about the differences in the spectrums. This doesn’t prove ‘better’ but I think it think it sheds some light on a few aspects.
