Tall grass - Durban from many sources

Okay, new here but figure this is a great place to start documenting my current project.

I am working to create a reference library of “durban” as currently available or held, only from seed.

The plan is to pop the entire pack/handful/etc. from 1-4 sources at a time.

veg to separate males and females.

Run the females as seed and clone to select based primarily on effect, then smell, then on hardiness/ease of growth.

Lines showing characteristics antithetical to Durban/Durban Poison will be excluded from further work.

Once one to two females have been selected from each source they will be run side by side in a single room for comparison under identical conditions.

The males will be run separately to remove negative traits select stand out examples if possible. (Females will be in the room as a “doomsday seed” run)

Now the fun part, each selected male is going to have his way with a clone of every female to create an F1 cross/filial progression.

I have acquired “Durban” seeds from as many sources as I can, I am actively searching for more.

The sources I have currently are

NASC White label
Humboldt CSI
Love of Landrace
Nirvana
Dutch Passion (fem)
Dutch Passion (OG GUITARZAN (spelling?) REPRO)
Sensi
Ak bean brains
Real Seed company(skunk cross)
Hazeman
Dragonfly Coyote Smoke
Deadpan head
Fleur du Mal
Cannabiogen(Hard Reset Repro)

Known but not interested
Khalifa(same as love of landrace)
Ace(modern one)

Known and on the fence
Anesia

Known desired but unable to locate
Dr. Blaze
The landrace Team
Tropical seed company
Ace (pre-theft)
Alaskan cannabis cache

I knew posting this project here was going to be dangerous because I’m sure plenty of people are holding good reproductions, and this project has already gotten larger than I originally planned, which is welcome.

It will get as large as it needs to.

Should be fun to watch this @SpecialK . I ran a whole bunch of akbb dope beard durban x acc ‘86 Rhodesian poison seeds last outdoor.

I made plenty of seeds if you would like to add it to the list.

Small update, rounding week 4 starting to show some frost on this Nirvana Durban Poison. Had one of the sensi Durbans herm and one of the NASC White label also hermed.

No issues from either the Humboldt or the Nirvana Durbans.

I have not given time to smell each to see what is coming out, so far the tent has not come alive in terms of smell.

I’ve never grown a Durban poison, but I’m very interested in this strain. Looking forward to seeing how this goes. Best of luck! I have a pack of Durban whirlwind (Durban poison x vortex) from Johnny potseed, I was thinking about running in the fall…

Welcome to the OG tribe brother. Interesting project, from my experience is that you have two major differences. The Durban Poison which is from a bagseed from a bud bought from a “African only imports”-coffeeshop by Ed Rosenthal. Then we have the many different landraces that are Labeled Durban, which can be all over the place.

The problem with Durban is that no one grew cannabis in the town Durban because it’s a big port, so all the weed in Durban was import, primarily from the rest of South Africa. So we have no clue what region or what Durban Poison actually is, and we have no clue what other landraces labeled Durban is.

Imo the less terpinolene and more ansie/spice/dirt pheno is definitely the best part of the lineage. If you want that terpinolene blast, TW is a way better plant overall then Durban Poison.

Of the landrace seeds I’ve tried, the old ACE stock was the best and reminded me more of Swazi genetics, then Durban Poison. Snow high was also amazing!
