I have a hard time throwing them out…lol…same with my solo seed cups…I started with 15 solo cups from the dollar store…the rest were accumulated from a bbq…I just kept stacking my old cups under my new cup…took my stack home…lol

Well, the dwc has been shut down…again. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
If it was going well, I would have left it…but dont have time or space to fight with issues, so into soil we go.

Luckily it’s recycling day today, so just went to my neighbors bin and grabbed a couple more 2 litres.

I have the same styrofoam cups from the dollar store that I have been starting seeds in for a couple of years now. My girlfriend tried throwing some out awhile ago and I had to retrieve them from the garbage - the holes were poked just right!

what’s going on with your water culture? Plants are struggling to survive?

Yeah that sucks on the DWC bro  I totally hear ya on that though.

I may try and get an RO system before I try DWC again myself. It’s nice when it works but it’s a massive P.I.T.A. to get right if your water isn’t perfect out the gate. I just checked my city water report and there’s definitely a bunch of microbial contaminants in it so I’m thinking that’s my issue.

Would think an Ebb and Flow/Flood and Drain setup would still work real though without needing RO

Yeah, the roots are refusing to hit water. Emptied the poolshock and tried bleach, couldnt get them to take a dip. Took up too much time already and is using valuable real estate…lol.

I was wondering that myself. I have 2 submersible pumps and a fuckload of hoses and T’s.

…and I’m completely put of soul until I harvest some stuff. I have a bunch of these mail totes and they hold 8x 2 litre bottles staggered perfectly. Gonna try and squeeze 8 totes into my flower space…harvest 8 plants a week. Even if they’re only 1/4 per plant…would be pretty nice. I enjoy the grow and everything, but the harvest is always the best.

yah uh the chlorine added to the water can reach…toxic levels quick. The roots of the plant get all bizarre looking going in any direction but down. So… my question is, what is the origin of the gunk you are trying to eliminate with the bleach-like substance?

To be honest, I’m not sure. Everytime I do dwc, the plants just sit happily with their roots growing down into the water. This time the were afraid to go into the water, like my red devil x auto…bleach brought it back to life. So I tried bleach again this time around, nothing, emptied and did pool shock, nothing…gave it 3 weeksish and a bunch of nutrients, plants weren’t taking so I pulled the plug.

Oh I just had a thought!

A thing I did do with the Godberry that I didn’t do with the other two DWC runs was top fill her. Used a hydrofarm kit to give her some water from the top, down through the netpot and into the dwc tote. I think this made it able to skip that root out of the water BS that we’ve now both seen happen.

Ya! :grimacing: The whole thing of the nutes having double the effect/half the strength required. So when you have tap water like me which 0.9EC that would be comparable on the shithouse scale to 1.8EC water in most other hydro techniques. It doesnt leave room for all the other goodness the plants need before you start frying them. I imagine it would have a similar effect with any other toxins in the solution/water. They would have double the impact on the plant in a DWC setup.
I am using a 50/50 mix now. I have a 200L system that stores, circulates and filters water for my room. Each time I fill it I use 50/50 RO/tap water to bring it down to 0.5EC. If I use 100% RO then i get issues with PH during storage and also use a ton of calmag for the veg/early flower stages. So 50/50 is it for me at the moment. Going to try 75% RO soon as I still cant get quite enough of the other nutes into the plants. I am still getting great results but the leaves look a little pale during the grow for my liking.
As for diseases, cant beat a chilled solution. Then you under dose chlorine as a backup. Works well and the plants absolutely love it. They cant get their roots down into the solution fast enough. When i drop the clones into the buckets they dont skip a beat. They keep growing and the roots are desperate to get into the solution. However, chilling is expensive for the hobby grower. I was told by a mate a while back that chilling is a game changer. I didn’t realize he was not only talking about preventing disease but the roots grow so much healthier in a cool solution due to the additional dissolved oxygen.

Thanks much! Am hoping to keep temps a little more stable to reduce stretch, as well as keeping my rh in check.
