Can anyone relate? Now that i have smoked homegrown and don’t experience that effect, i want to maybe get some sort of consensus on this matter. It seems like all the bag appeal and flavor is to obfuscate the real taste of how it was grown.
This irritation in the back of the back top of the throat, it takes some minutes to shake it off, it always comes on after i smoke some unknown commercial bud. Is that the pesticides or excess salts? I would appreciate some feedback if anyone has already figured it out.
I always wonder the same thing i smoked it be cause my back and hernia well didnt help much. So started getting from someone who ended up not doing that anymore and now that ive grown my own again ill never smoke thay crap
Same thing stupid cough and to me almost all the dispo stuff tastes the same and is garbage. Ive had maybe 10 bags or jars that REALLY got me baked but were ya know infused grind 60%
Yep haha I couldnt do it anymore cost too much and dont do the job. My stuff aint top shelf by far but it tastes good smells good and gets me stoney no cough at all so its easy on my hernia too
I know what you mean and it seems they spray excessive terpene on them and they all smell the same? wtf?
Growing more than I can smoke now of my own shit and have more seeds than I Wil ever use
More than likely it’s because it’s not treated well post harvest. The Mrs’ small table bowl has already turned too dry in this weather. It’s been 2 days.
I believe some of it has to do with grow styles used in these larger ops as well as lack of good post harvest sop
It’s likely;
grown in Rockwool,
minimal to no added carbon,
Fed high ec salt recipes, talking ec’s of 2.5 from clone and 3.5 in flower. Which to me is absolutely insane. Or maybe I’m missing something,
Most facilities spray a smorgishborg of biologicals and other pesticides consistently for ipm through flower some even claim safe to spray up to day of harvest, I personally don’t spray anything past day 12 to 14 F
Maaaybe has mycos if lucky,
Poorly flushed or finished,
In many states theres mandatory legislation to have all smokable flowers irradiated before it can touch a self,
no thanks,
Just what I’ve noticed to be industry standards when the grow supply distributors are Hawthorne etc etc
Not saying there aren’t big ops crushing it running organic soils etc being mindful and putting the plant first, it just seems few n far between and when they do hit the self in your town they charge a premium price point.
Its two things. Pesticides/fungicides and a fast cure. They speed dry everything. Bagged up after a one week “cure”.
I will cure my flower for months. Always super smooth smoke with a proper cure. I have some flower thats been curing for a year. Im turning that 2lb of flower into cannagars that I will continue to age. As long as its in the proper rh, cannabis can be aged like fine wine.
When I think of how “homegrown “ was viewed in my youth (almost 60 years), it was smoked only if no mex ditch weed was available. This was done for all the right reasons. And now homegrown is preferred for all the right reasons. My world is constantly being turned upside down.
Around me, most commercial growers literally don’t cure. Weed goes into the drying room at 60/60 for a week or two. Then into the trim room where they package it up and send it out.
i agree w/a lot of the premises here, not cured right, not harvested rightly, a couple other ideas too. but also i tend to want to blame hybridization for removing genetically or some way the “high” that was in cannabis. I hear a lot of ppl saying THC percentage isn’t it, then it’s gotta be that “entourage” effect or the genetic make up of the DNA in the final flower. And ppl often say i’m too old to get high anymore, or that smoking cigs all my life interfered w/my buzz. But i got plenty high on the last stuff i had back in '91, and my dad and i got plenty high on weed and hash that i had back in the late 70s. He got way too high, may God rest his soul. heehee. Nah, the dispo commerical crap they grow since 2012 has been a rip off. Beauty buds, smells, looks great, high not worth a shit, taste bad, and harsh to death. I think we all agree.
My reaction to dispo weed usually hovers somewhere between feeling sorry for nongrowers and anger at the people who would let smokers go away from those experiences thinking that’s all cannabis has to offer. As in: maybe there’s people coming to cannabis for medical reasons and going away unconvinced because the weed they’re buying just plain sucks. They walk away from it back to pill pushers and the endless side effect chain and it’s tragic.
You can take my word for it at any rate. But i will say there are ppl, foreigner, i think, for one, who state that the dispo they buy is pretty good. And there’s a friend of mine, member here, who likes the hash he buys in Canada. I’m in USA. Dispo weed is horrible. 8 years i’ve smoked some 250 varieties. I don’t remember a single one like i remember the stuff I bought from Alex in 1968, or the last time i smoked after a 26 year break, and most of the stuff in between. Yep, i smoked bad stuff back in the days, sure. Harsh, bad tasting, sure. But most of what i smoked in those 26 years was good to fantastic. Most of what i’ve smoked since 2017 (legalization), bad to harsh, midz at best, taste all the same.
I did wot liminal_gnome says when he feels sorry for nongrowers (me) and i too have often thot about ppl trying modern cannabis and thinking that’s all it has to offer. Or, on the other hand, thinking that worthless shit is fire, when it’s not even worth the money, the toking, the throat burn or the time. Why do i keep buying it? Cuz it’s legal and i always loved weed. :sigh:
