The 1970s. Please explain

Yes although the vocals on in High On Fire aren’t my thing. A lot of the genre has vocals I just can’t do. I almost passed on Elder because of the first album but I’m so glad to gave another album a chance cause they’re one of my favorite bands. The Sword and Uncle Acid of course, almost any band with Witch in the name is good lol. Weedpecker, Spaceslug, Haunted (from Italy) is good. Rollerball, Kyuss, REZN. Somali Yacht Club.

well sears and other catalog companies had been selling beach crusier type motorcycle which to me looked like a shitty dirtbike in this old 60s sears catalog i used to have …i think a mix of boys being allowed to really play like boys mixed with so many people moving to the suburbs in the 60-70s …as a kid from the 80s my gen feels badass for drinking out of hoses and compared to todays kids we were badasses but 60-70s was the last gen that really had no safety precautions on shit …metal was sharp and paint was lead …i can just imagine the kind of hell raising done on dirtbikes by teens in these new still semi rural suburbs … with barney Fife cops not really fucking with them times were different…freedoms since lost for kids

maybe its watching dazed and confused to many times but i always thought the 70s minus disco looked badass and would have been just as cool but probably cooler than me going through high school in the 90s

Check out Ufomammut, if you haven’t already. They’re from Italy, too. Their album “Godlike Snake” is fucking awesome. I dunno if I’d classify it as stoner/doom, but it’s heavy. Good shit.

I was working in the Canadian oil patch in the 70’s.
Nothing cooler than hitting Edmonton (or Calgary) after 3 weeks in the field.

Every weekend was a mad party with all of the crews on rotation.
Nothing funnier than standing in the washroom of a large bar, having a wizz, along with 50 other guys and buddy standing beside you passes a Cheech and Chong sized spliff… Just take a big rip and pass it along!

Cheers

Now you got me listening to “Dopethrone” haha. Goddamn, I love that album…

I’ll check it out. I’ve actually heard of them before but never got around to listening to any of it yet.

Holy shit would that be an awesome show!

I got thrown out before Tool came on haha. I was only 19 and a buddy of mine worked the door, so he hooked us up. But I didn’t ask him for a wristband and was drinking, so they kicked me out. When he saw me out front, I told him what happened and he was like,”Duuuuude, why didn’t you ask me for a wristband?!? I didn’t know you were underage!” But I didn’t want to be too demanding haha. I thought the tickets were a nice-enough gesture. Asking for a wristband seemed like overstepping my boundaries haha.

That’s how long ago that was, though. Tool was playing at some, like, 1000-person-capacity theatre in Tampa FL. Nowadays, they’d be playing stadiums.

Check out “Dopethrone” for sure. I’m listening to it now for the first time in five years or so. Great album.

Oh that’s beat! Never got to see Tool and I wish I could have back in the day. I missed a ton of good shit cause I was just a few years too young. Did get to see the first 2 Warped Tours though.

I own Dopethrone lol Have you heard Haunted? Female led doom band that I personally like way more than Windhand or Ruby The Hatchet. My GF actually managed to get in contact with the band and asked if they would sign an album for me. I guess they’re really into like witchcraft type stuff so they took the album on tour with them to “infuse it with their energy” or something along those lines  I ain’t bitching and it is kind of cool it was on tour in my honor.

Yeah, sorry, I only just realized you were talking about Ufomammut, not Electric Wizard haha.

I haven’t heard of Haunted, but I’ll check them out. Summertime, I usually listen to more mellow stuff, like Wilco and Willie Nelson and shit. I’ve actually been digging St. Vincent’s new album lately. That song “The Melting of the Sun” is a really good track. But yeah, wintertime is usually when I listen to the heavy shit. “Reign in Blood” gets a lot of play here in December/January/February haha. But I’ll check out Haunted for sure.
