The Canadian Contingent (Part 1)

ah yes Hamilton the place that is a nightmare to drive through your 1st time with all those 1 way streets lol

With the exception of king street and main street most of the major street one ways have become two ways.

If that’s your worst Hamilton nightmare then that’s a good problem to have

Totally agree. For me it’s not the one way streets, they’re few and far between compared to Ottawa or Fredericton, or it feels that way, but the fact that we’ve got a 5-6 lane highways going directly through the city is pretty annoying and a little scary. King St in Hamilton is also Highway 8 if I’m not mistaken. I’m bad with numbers.

As a small town east coaster, that pace or driving really fucks with me.

When driving in Brantford or Cambridge the speed limit on most streets is 70. The added speed makes it a real challenge to find an address you’ve never been to.

I’ve lived many places in this city. Probably why Mountain is my favorite.

Nothing like the smell of :snowflake: Snowblower :snowflake: exhaust :dash:, to wake a gal up in the morning!

I’m so happy it’s wintertime and cold out right now.

Raining atm here, changing to freezing rain this afternoon and then to snow tonight until Saturday morning. It’s going to be a messy few days  Hopefully the rain will clear some of the last snow fall before it starts again.

I’m potentially working from home today as I’m not willing to deal with the bullshit this city throws at me for my one way, 22km IN CITY commute to and from work. Last time I got stuck on in the west end and couldn’t drive back I took me 3 hours to commute… and I still had to shlep back to get my freaking car!

Yeah. No dice but the hard worker in me is REALLY GUTTED that i’m not just pushing through.

:sob:

Stupid trauma reactions.

We have so much snow here…Ontario, near Owen Sound. It rained yesterday for a wee bit which melted half of what we had, and then the rain turned to snow and it all came back again. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Ouch. Yeah that’s what I was bunkered down at home all yesterday waiting but of course it was just a cold rain so I felt mental staying home… Our house is electrically heated so if the grid goes down there’s a panic fueled check-list of things to do in order to make sure things are safe.

No heat can kill our bird, so it’s a lockdown routine with an added time as we have a sub-pump in our basement that NEEDS to run every 8 hours or flooding occurs… so to avoid and indoor underground pool I need to bucket the res or battery the pump in that time to prevent fuckery.

That and our roof is leaky over the kitchen on really bad melts.

So I try to stay home so she has peace of mind too. Her nerves are more wrattled than mine so at least if shit goes wrong and we’re together we have each other to hold ourselves up until we can just break down in our bedroom with the animals and hope the added body heat keeps things okay.

Last time we had power issues the house got down to 8c in most areas and the bedroom 15c with blankets all over Bubbles pen. We would be running a fuck tonne of candles for the heat but they are toxic to the :parrot: :sob:

@KanehB , you live to my FAVORITE waterslide in Ontario! Also not far from my Favourite beach (but it’s on lake Huron)… also I AM JELLY AS HECK ON HOW CLOSE YOU ARE TO BOTH SINGING SANDS AND THE BLUE GROTTO. :hugs:

On a night hike I ran into a giant Fisher Cat and OH BOY AM I GLAD that it saw me first and I didn’t surprise it! :open_mouth:

We have lots of snow but another cold snap has been here. Had to boost the plow to start it yesterday.
This morning the power has been out twice already and have the wood stove going to keep warm.

I stepped out for a :smoking:, I think I’ve permanently put my iPhone into  mode!

Also, to take a look at our roof apparently my partner is going to spend the morning “raking” the roof! :scream:

That’s the part to hold onto. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve only been in the area since last May, prior to I was in the good old GTA.
I’ve had mobility issues for many years too, so water slides would be a fun, getting torched by the sun :sunny: viewing experience for me.

I’ve been told they’ll bring in Fisher Cats to control Bird and Fish populations around the perimeters of the Nuclear plants, and the Bruce plant is off the shores of Huron.

I’m def going to look into Singing Sands and the Blue Grotto. When the weather improves a bit though.

I bought a 16ft+ roof shovel for this! AND STILL NEED A LADDER :sob:

The waterslide i regale =

The beach I regale =

I was near Tobermory when i saw the thing, and considering those things are Ontario Wolverines: yes, that’s a good plan for them!

While they are both most likely wonderful in the winter: 100% yes to this. AND you can go up off season! Sunrise on the Grotto is amazing… and then the people come and ruin it.

all of this Bruce County talk makes me nostalgic! I grew up going to our family cottage on Colpoy’s Bay. Spent much of my time exploring the peninsula and going to Sauble.
